Why doesn't the battleaxe have a range on it? I've been watching Modern Marvels quite a bit and a lot of what d&d calls battleaxes (versitile axes) could be thrown quite easily.

What's more is that the Francisca could be thrown, bounced off the ground in order to confuse the targets, and still fly forward and injure targets quite well.

The way axes are made specifically allows them to be throw quite well, even if they aren't small little handaxes.

1] The Battle Axe isnt the Hand Axe.Its based on big ol' dumb barbarian stereotype axes from Sterotopia

2] Ive seen the same special. It was very cool but dont take too much from it.Alot of things can be thrown it doesnt make them effective and the axe historically is not a very common weapon

3] Ive seen that one too.Bouncing axes are cool but isnt as big a thing in a game like D&D and would either require an overly specialized ability handed to axes/thrown weapons or a feat

Theres always going to be complaints about weapons in a D&D and realism but ive seen far worse ranging from stupid unusable Darth Maul weapons to Crossbows being crappy shortbows to Crossbows taking incredible training because of an auto-loading mechanism was added to a simple weapon and having less to do is harder to............whatever the hell the spiked chain is supposed to be that justifies it being a collection of spikies on a ring with polearm damage

Axes were all over the place, though they often became a lot less common in areas and periods with a wide range of polearms. Use of thrown axes was somewhat more restricted, but there are a number of examples of this from several places.

Yeah, battle axes are what I'm talking about. They are easily thrown with one or two hands. Handaxes are also used for throwing but so are battle axes. You are thinking of the greataxe. The axes used for the barbarian dwarf is a battle Axe while the human looks to have a greataxe. That battle Axe should have a range on it.

I'm not suggesting putting all realism into the game but dang, throwing a battleaxe is a simplicity that should be part of the game. Not only is it cool but you could make it simple. The bouncing part can easily be fluff or a maneuver (athletics versus insight).

Also this would allow a distinction between the battleaxe and the longsword.
