Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

Over the next few days, we're taking a bit of a break and finishing up The Best of the Hundred Tournament for Comics #601 - #700 as we take the time to decide which of the strips really are the best of best.

For full details about the Stick Awards, and any questions about them, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the five listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting, which only lasts five days during the Best of the Hundred Tournament will close on February 3rd, 4pm EST. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

The winner of this Best of the Hundred final will go on to the Best of the Thousand tournament if and when we reach Comic Number 1000.

In the second semi-final, :mitd: 661 - The Path of Least Expectation (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0661.html)
managed to squeak out a victory over its competitors with a last second escape into the Finals.

Meanwhile, :xykon: 657 - Second Chance (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0657.html) lived up to its name, as its scenery chewing villainy amused (or frightened) the judges enough to give it a shot in the Finals of this Best of the Hundred as Wild Card entrant #1.

Lastly, :vaarsuvius: 628 - Every Parent's Worst Nightmare (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0628.html) was told in no uncertain terms just what it faced in its future. Nonetheless, it was allowed to move on as Wild Card entrant #2. Who knows why? Maybe they just want to keep up its suffering. We can be a cruel bunch at times, after all. ;)

What was once one hundred is now naught but four. But as a certain Scotsman once said, there can only be one. And as it was for that gathering so to is it for ours. But we only get to one by your vote in.....

Some great one's here. However, I stand by what I said earlier.

#639 takes the cake and the cake's entire family.

Tough choice for me - 639 or 661? - but ultimately, 639 wins for its sheer holy-crap factor.

Going to go with 661 again.

I'm not interested in voting for 639 at all, because to me, Familicide is more of a powerful catalyst than a powerful moment in itself. So I very much hope it loses. Showing the deaths of thousands of nameless dragons is easy. It's not that different than the slaughter of thousands of Azurites in the Azure City siege.

What's much more interesting to me is the effect atrocities is shown to have on real characters with real identities. I'll probably be voting for the strip where V, surrounded by the corpses of the Draketooth clan, discovers the full horror of what s/he has done. But I'm not voting for 639. Too easy.

I'll post my vote later, once I see whether 657 or 661 is doing better in the poll.

I would like to vote for 657 or especially for 661, but FAMILICIDE plays in a different league.

639 gets my vote.

In my opinion: 639 > 661 > 628 > 657.

A very strong field. I'll pick 628, because I can still remember the moment when I first read that strip, and the gut-punch it delivered.

628 - Momma Black Dragon has such an incredible presence. I'd rather be able to vote for 627, but this will do in its stead.

657 is my favorite in the entire series. It is, in my opinion, the most Powerful. And as we all know, Power=Power.

I agree with Emanick... 639 is too easy of a choice. 628 actually had way more of a jarring impact on me.

Not voting for 639 - it's a monstrous spell, but that does not make this the best strip in here. Slowly but surely, :xykon: and his speech grew on me, so power=power=my vote for 657.

Mainly for its long lasting effect and awesome versions of dragons.

The speech has stuck with me and grown with me more than just about anything else in the comic.

It looks as though 657: Second Chance is pulling ahead of 661: The Path of Least Expectation, so I'll lend my vote to the former.

639 - If They Pull a Knife...

Well, it was a valiant charge by the anti-Familicde brigade. And they almost pulled it out. But in the end, it appears too many people were awestruck (in the old school scene of the word) by 639 and thus it'll move on to the Best of the Thousand.

As for me, I can't quite pull the trigger on it. I agree that it was one of the most shocking, pivotal strips in the entire comic's run. But I tend to side on those who like to see the ramifications of the act than the act itself. For me, it comes down to, once again, 657 and 661. Thinking it over the last few days, I still have to throw my vote to 657. It is one of Xykon's greatest moments (outside of Start of Darkness) and it shows he isn't just the Cackling Scenery Chewing Villain that he often appears. No, there is some scary stuff inside that skull, and it comes to the fore here.

It won't win the day, but it's worthy of my vote, impressive as Familicde was.

And with that....

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

Nothing beats Familicide.

Edit: Never mind, it already won.
