[3.5] Dabus LA?

Hey all,

Just wondering, what would you ping the LA of a Dabu (EttDP, p.192) at?


4 HD medium humanoid (extraplanar), SLA change self (at will), telepathy 100 ft, floating form, Dex +6, Con +2, Int +2, Wis +4, Cha +4

Looking for a realistic WotC type LA, not a watered down LA to make them player friendly.

The internet seems to think change self is a legacy name for disguise self, and it's not described in the monster entry. Is that what it is, or have I missed something somewhere?

Hmm, good point. I would assume it's Disguise Self, then.

If so, I'd say maybe +3?

Dabus have: Net +18 to ability scores
Two mediocre special abilities (change self and floating form)
One rather good special ability (telepathy)
4 RHD

By comparison, Centaur (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/centaur.htm) have:

Net +16 ability scores
No real special abilities, but Large size, which is usually worth +1 LA
4 RHD
Some other minor stuff, like +3 NA and a rather high land speed
...which ends up being worth LA +2.

I'd say the Dabus special abilities are a bit better than the stuff Centaurs get, and big bonuses to mental stats are better than the Centaur's physical stats. So, add one for a total of +3 and you're good.
