I need help picking an Animal Companion for an 8 level druid/gestalt

3.5 3.0 dragon magazine allowed

I do want to add the warbeast template to it though so keep that in mind

Best options at that level are probably magebred ghost tiger, magebred ghost bear (5N, 74-75), and as always, fleshraker dinosaur (MM III, 40). First two technically require you to be from Breland, so you might be stuck with the fleshraker out of the three.
