View Full Version : Rules Q&A Unusual character concept - Do bionics exist in 3.5?

I've been brainstorming a character idea for an Artificer cohort of my main Dread Necromancer who has the various Leadership feats. His name is Toholk the Blinded. Originally from Eberron, which exists as a seperate country within my current games continuity, he was a vizier to the King of Karrnath at the time and was lauded as a visionary because of his scientific achievements but as his ideas became more and more extreme he believed the Gods could eventually be made redundant, with mortals becoming gods themselves via science and magic. When this idea was presented to the King the King flew into a rage and had Toholk blinded for his lack of foresight. Eventually he was taken from Eberron and entombed alive in a raided pyramid like a squatter. We will discover that tomb at some point in the future in our campaign and when he is initially ressurected as a mummy he'll look like this:

Afterwards, in the 'modern' age freed from all ideas of morality, tradition, culture, nationalism etc he will eventually look like this:

I was wondering, are there any rules for bionics or similar technological upgrades to the body so the changes in his look could be roleplayed and have in game effects? I'm quite enamoured with the idea of an artificer-mummy-cyborg so I'm certainly hoping so!

Yes. They're called "grafts." Look at grafts. Simply refluff the organic ones as being techno-organic (e.g. silthilar blood is now nanites that repair damage to your body) and check out warforged grafts from faiths of eberron.

Comprehensive index here (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=12562.0) Enjoy.

You could also have a look at the Renegade Mastermaker PrC from Magic of Eberron. He turns into basically a cyborg, eventually.

Grafts. There are some construct ones with this fluff, and the rest can be relatively easily refluffed.

Sculpt Self, if you want the mummy to do the crafting to itself. A slight refluff, but honestly, one that makes the mechanics match better.

Also, in D20 Future there are a few cybernetic enhancements, Not exactly 3.5, but still useful.

Thanks guys, keep it coming! That prestige class looks excellent as does the Sculpt Self feat. The battlefist would match that clawed gauntlet in the picture pretty well. Lots to think about. I'm beginning to love this forum!

I just treated cybernetics as normal items except they cost twice the normal price, since they don't use up a body slot.

You might be able to avoid that if you come up with some reason that they can't be used with magic items of that slot; for example, the magical resonance of the eyes you built that give you True Seeing (Hathran Mask of True Seeing) interfere with items that go on the face and so they can't be used with something that uses the face slot.

Didn't want to. I wanted high-tech magic glasses with my necrotech eyes.
