Howdy, Vidrina here~

So I'm an artist of sorts yeah? I love art... But I never manage to motivate myself, and I end up going months without drawing.

I want to fix that.

I'm a little late for the new years resolution, be here's for nothing...
A picture a day.

I might be anything from a quick sketch to a full fledged piece of work, but I intend on trying to get some sort of art done every day. Subject matter might range from anime to D&D to real life school projects or whatever, but there will be something new here AT LEAST EVERY DAY.

Here's to hoping that the internet will provide some sort of motivation.

I can indeed do realism of all sorts, and I'm an art studio major in Uni, so I've got experience in a lot of different mediums and styles~ I'm mostly trying to figure out what I want in a style through constant practice, and maybe expand my style range.

Cool! That means you're probably way more competent across the board than me. I might actually be interested in tapping you for experience or opinions!

The Youtube superstar Sycra is currently going through a series where he's trying to learn a very sharp, angular style, that might be worth a watch for the perspective of what's involved.


Could you talk a bit about your setup? Do you use a tablet? What program? What are your favourite brush settings? Do you go for fancy aftereffects and complex layering or just linework-colour, or what? How many times do you sketch something before you finalise it? This is persistently the single most fascinating thing for me because this highly technical setup stuff is the main thing I cannot figure out just from looking at a picture.

I do really enjoy Sycra's stuff, thanks for letting me know!

As far as my setup, for digital stuff I have an ancient bamboo fun tablet that I got back in 2009... That model is currently discontinued though. I used to use Paint tool SAI, but recently got myself Photoshop cs5.

For brush settings... I just use stock stuff. I'm not very digital art savvy, so I use what they gave me. I don't know much about using effects, but I wish I did. Most of my art is pretty simple as far a layers go. A sketch layer, some lines, and then colors. Sometimes I'll separate between each color. Sometimes I just use my sketch as lineart. I sketch until I get something I like, but usually not much more than once or twice. I just kinda go with the flow. If I'm using pencils, sometimes I'll sketch in a red color and then go in with lines, but I've realized I'm way to lazy to actually do that.

I'm still messing around with different styles – what you're seeing so far is me reverting back to a style I tried out 2 years ago that has slowly been creeping it's way back into my art.

Not really. The hardest part is posting daily rather than drawing daily. It's much easier to cary a sketchbook than it is to carry a computer.

Hello, I've been admiring your work for a while, and I find that you make rather nice and simple drawings! The shapes, composition and colors are just wonderful.

Would you be alright with taking a request? I've tried to draw one of my characters, Kelcey, but haven't managed a good picture. No need to stress over it, just take your time!



Gender: Lightly feminine, possibly edging on genderfluid. Character's supposed to be attractive and gently sexy.

Race: Human

Equipment:

- Blue and black long-sleeved robe that's plenty long enough to drag across the floor. It covers the torso but shows off the leg. It probably has to split open just below the groin to do this.

Hair: Blond hair in a loose ponytail.
