I'm offering employment to any and all, with three positions available.

I will offer a starting pay of 1 cash to all new employees. Depending on ability, this pay will increase by either 1, 2 or 3 cash per season (turn?), to a maximum of either 3, 6 or 9, which may be renegotiated after five seasons. Moderate or skilled employees who sign on will receive a cash bonus

I am a generous employer, and also offer this to my current employee.

I need what able bodied people i can get (as many as eight others) to help produce food for all of us. I offer a starting wage of 1 with an increase of 1 at the end of every season for six seasons. More skilled employees shall recieve a cash bonus for signing on.

"Pumamine is now recruiting !
Looking for three more able miners !
Will pay 20 silver pieces (2 gold) to anyone willing to join up."

The foreman was making calculations in the dirt. An expansion of the mines would be in the budget but would delay future investments. Thus, it would be profitable to supply the village with 5 units of iron, and offer 5 other units of iron for trade in exchange for wood at a rate of 1 iron for 2 wood.

Keeli yells out into the village, "I'll pay any village guy one gold a turn, to come make some goods in my workshop! Any pay increases to be discussed while ye're on the contract."

"And if ye think ye can be loyal, then take this: I'll pay ye three gold a turn, but if you quit, you have to work three turns unpaid, then you can't work for another ten without paying me half your salary. I wouldn't recommend this if ye plan on ditching mi."

She'll then give the same offer to current workers of all the other businessman.

She'll fulfill the wood quota of the village, trading 5 wood for 10 gold, and offer to buy wood at the rate of 3 gold for 2 wood, up to buying 25 of it.

She'll sell 8 metal to Icilla for 200 gp, and then offer to buy metal at 4 gold apiece, obviously waiting out Icilla's need.

Her workers will sell the village two home goods if they pay 125 gp for both, ignoring their current offer and refusing to accept anything else.

Sell her 10 metal, get 1 Home Goods free.

The small, sturdily-built owner of the gold and silver mine to the north, a man by the name of Gaj, nails a notice to the town signboard, and hands a copy of the same to the town crier.

"I'll give 2 for strong hands, 3 if you're skilled at mining. I'll set you a quota, and any gold or silver you can dig out beyond that is yours to keep as a bonus. Don't worry about your gear either; I'll sell it to you either up-front, or you can take it now and work of the debt to me."

Good thing most of these village bumpkins had little idea of accounting. All he had to do was set the quota too high to actually meet, and use that to justify not paying. For the ones that bought their equipment from him, well, they would find that debt quickly running away from them with the help of interest.

Gaj comes to his original employee, a man by the name Hewaz. "Hewaz, you've been with me for a good long time. I'll give you an extra gold now, and" Gaj says, producing the promised gold piece from his pocket "I'm promoting you to manager. No quotas or anything; you just get your gold without worry. I'll need you to help me though; these newer workers, they just came for the money. They aren't like you, they might not be so loyal. If they try and skimp out on their quotas, or try to run away before their debt to me is repaid, I'll need you to help me put a stop to that."

At the entrance to the mine, Gaj posts a notice:

Any discussion of wages, quotas, or working conditions are against company policy, and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

These are classic divide and conquer techniques. Hewaz has been given an effectively meaningless title, but will now consider himself above the others, resulting in my employees pitting themselves against each other instead of me.

Gaj's next stop is at Pumamine, seraching for the mine owner. When he finds that individual, Gaj says "I have a proposition for you. Mining one sort of metal isn't so different from another sort of metal. What do you say we join forces to increase our productivity and profits?"

The foreman was feeling a bit down today. He had to explain to one of his workers, the one who originally helped him start the operation, that he meant to give him 2 gold salary as well, not only to new hires. Good thing he was understanding. After selling 5 metal to the village for 22 gold apiece, he will offer to buy wood at 14 gold apiece and/or offer to swap 2 metal for 3 wood until he accrues a total amount of 30 wood. This extends both to the village and other enterprise owners.

Returning to supervise on the mining operation. 'lo and behold, Gaj, owner of the precious metals mine approaches him. "oh, this should be good"

"A partnership ? Alright, let's here your terms."

The foreman was feeling a lot better this day. Not only did he secure a large supply of wood (admittedly at a higher price than he was willing to day) but he also had enough stocks to send to the village. So he went to sell 10 units of metal to the village for 210 gold and afterwards he trades 5 units of metal for 100 gold to the caravan with the promise of having a larger supply the next time they come.
