Hello Giants!

I'm mid-capaign (level 5) in Skull and Shackles, and my character got their stupid heart ripped out... To the point, I need a new character and I'm thinking Swashbuckler.

Making a quick build on Herolab (http://www.wolflair.com/legacy/index.php?context=hero_lab&page=pathfinder_roleplaying_game), this is what I've come up with. Please let me know if you have any ideas to improve the build, re-arrange wealth and magic items, etc.

Swashbuckler 5

Race: "Azata / Musetouched" Aasimar

Inspired Blade Archetype (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/swashbuckler/archetypes/paizo---swashbuckler-archetypes/inspired-blade)

STR - 8
DEX - 20 (+2 dex item included in total)
CON - 14
INT - 14
WIS - 10
CHA - 16

Feats / traits (open to change):
trait - Armour Expert
trait - Expert Boarder (we do a lot of ship combat)

1 - Fencing Grace - Prerequisites all given by class - Dex to Damage for Inspired blade
3 - Combat reflexes - parry all day!
4 - bonus feat - weapon specialization (rapier)
5 - Dodge?

Wealth: 10,500 (5% discount on all items bought for creation). Thoughts on what to get:
+1 Rapier, for certain!
+1 Mithril Chain Shirt?
MW Buckler
Belt of Dex +2
Ioun Stone (+1 init)
Ring of protections +1
Masterwork backpack (carry cap sucks)
Potions?

With a +1 Rapier, Weapon Spec and my inspired training:
+13 to attack
1d6 + 10 + 5 precision

As always, thanks to everyone that participates in this thread. I'll update daily to respond to any questions and ideas that you come up with.
Hopefully, this can become a font of knowledge to other ambitious Swashbucklers too!

Well, if you pick up an Effortless Lace (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons/specific-magic-weapons/effortless-lace) ribbon and wrap it around the hilt of your rapier, it'll count as a light weapon for Piranha Strike (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/piranha-strike-combat).

If you've got the cash, you can also get a tattoo of Muleback Cords (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/wondrous-items/m-p/muleback-cords). It'll cost 2,000 gp instead of 1,000, but it leaves your shoulder slot free for cloaks.

Swordmaster's Flair - Blue Scarf would go pretty well with combat reflexes.

The stat array isn't as godly for it as an Azata-kin Aasimar, but have you considered Undine for the race, given the campaign?

You start off with a swim speed and can trade out the lackluster SLA for the ability to breathe water in addition.

You're now a pirate with practically nothing to fear from falling overboard, and can handle aquatic threats however you please as rapiers are piercing weapons and thus have no penalties to attacking underwater.

Since you're heavily penalized if you're not using the rapier, you may want to consider Weapon Versatility (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/weapon-versatility-combat) for those situations where piercing damage is not ideal.

Consider carrying a backup rapier. Inspired Blades are screwed if they are disarmed.

I'd perhaps replace Armor Expert with one of the traits that improves your will save. 10 Wisdom on a poor will class can be painful, even with Charmed Life.

Strength 8 (9 with the masterwork backpack) gives you a 30 lb light load, at the moment you're carrying ~25 lb before counting consumables or common items like a rope or a waterskin. Unless your GM doesn't care about encumbrance I'd strongly advise you look into magic items that help you carry your gear - handy haversack, muleback cords, heavyload belt etc.

Thanks for the amazing ideas!

I've looked over the replies so far and they're all priceless advice.

That is an awesome idea! Top banana!

I've had a peek at them, but someone is already an Undine Monk. I like to mix up our race list, and I've taken the role of "Face". Aasimar's +2 to CHA and diplomacy are pretty vital.

Added to my list of magic items to find!

Thanks everyone, it's a real pleasure to have your expertise!

Just quickly, what book is this feat from and how do the costs work?

Inscribe Magical Tattoo (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/item-creation-feats/inscribe-magical-tattoo-item-creation) is from the Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Magic.

Magical tattoos follow the rules for magic item creation as though they were wondrous items, except that they can use the Craft (calligraphy, paintings, tattoos) skill. New magical tattoos can be researched and designed using the guidelines for pricing new magic items. Magical tattoos are treated as slotless magical items for pricing purposes.

Wonderful, an easy double cost to make anything slotless! =3
