My friend and I are developing a system based off both Star Wars Saga Edition and Actana's Mass Effect Saga Edition (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?282956-SWSE-Mass-Effect-Saga-Edition).

However, instead of being sci-fi in theme, it's going to be rooted in Japanese mythology.

My friend suggested "Wuxia Saga Edition", but that doesn't really work for me since wuxia is a primarily Chinese concept and this homebrew is mostly Japanese themed.

So what does the playground think? Does anyone have a clever or interesting name for our system? Preferably I'd like the title to end in "Saga Edition".

And of course, when I do post the system, I'll credit whoever came up with the name.

Depending on what your aiming for, I would suggest:

Jidaigeki, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jidaigeki)
Chambara. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chambara)

How much do you want to emphasize the "Saga edition" part? "Saga edition no densetsu" (Legend of Saga Edition) is one option.

Depending on how much you want to emphasize the mythology part, you might want a Youkai reference or possibly allude to some of the movie classics. (Zatoichi, etc.) Alternatively, there's always the emperor and shogun. Which direction are you interested in going here?

These are both great, thanks for the suggestions!

You raise a good point, let me go into detail a little more.

In this setting and system, we're greatly emphasizing the role of magic and mythology. Almost anyone can learn to use their Ki to do fantastic things such as harden their skin into stone, breath fire, or turn invisible.

So if the name could allude to that, it would be great.

I'm a fan of a two-word (or two-phrase) mashup. One word tells you about the setting, and another word adds flavor.

For example, "Lightsaber Kensei" (Lightsaber master swordsman) or "Mass Effect Daiō" (Mass Effect Emperor). That allows you to mix setting-specific content with the Japanese flavor for which you're looking.

Tora Ni Noru
It means 'Riding the Tiger.'

The term represents 'taking charge/maintaining control/coming out on top amid chaotic and dangerous circumstance'

Masterful, elegant, descriptive. I think we have a clear winner.

Reminds me of that game Jade Empire. This is a good idea, I'll roll some stuff around.

Thanks, this is another great idea. I like these two phrases you've found.

I'm really sorry My suggestion was kinda ridiculous. I lack any useful options and idiot options are my all I got. I hope you do find something good.

Oh no, I knew you were just saying it as a joke. I'm sorry if my sarcasm sounded malicious, I meant to be jesting with you.

[Blank] Saga would work really well with some of these suggestions, such as Tora Saga or Kensei Saga. Actually, I'd strongly suggest Kensei Saga.

I ended up going with Saga Edition no Densetsu, as Norren suggested. Thanks everyone! Here's (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?398890-Saga-Edition-no-Densetsu!-Japanese-mythology-themed-saga-system&p=18827768#post18827768) the thread itself.
