I've been doing a lot of reading lately about Ancient China, and I've taken particular interest in the Song (sometimes spelled Sung) Dynasty, especially the later Southern Song period during the 13th century preceding the Mongol takeover and the establishment of the Yuan dynasty.

I'm curious if anybody knows of any good fictional media taking place during this period- novels, movies, TV shows, mangas, anime, and what have you. I'd be most interested in the period before the Mongol invasion but I am also interested in Mongolian history so any good stuff more centered on the invasion itself would be of interest too.

Thanks much.

If I remember correctly, Guy Gavriel Kay's River of Stars is set in that period; it's a lovely novel with all of Kay's usual poetics and politics.

Song of the Long March takes place during the Song Dynasty and it's quite interesting, especially as it gets into some of the Tribes and their politics.
