Changing creature types [3.5]

Maybe its just me, but I always felt like gnomes should be of the Fey type. It just feels right...

Anyone ever feel like a certain creature should be of a different type?

There's a few in the SRD that I think should be Aberrations that aren't:

Darkmantle
Digester
Ethereal Marauder
Frost Worm
Grey Render
Phase Spider
Purple Worm
Remorhaz
Roper
Spider Eater
Yrthak

...seriously, take a flip through the SRD/MM and tell me these don't look more like Lovecraftian aberrations than being in the same stable as Unicorns and Worgs.

IIRC, the 4th Edition did this by giving gnomes (and elves) fey ancestry. Although, I think 4E's gnomes were more like forest gnomes than your typical, dwarf-like rock gnomes.

You could change gnomes to Fey type in 3.5 and it really wouldn't change them so long as you added the same proviso about exchanging its single Fey hit die for a class level that pixies have.
