I've got a chance to play a character I have always wanted to play since I started with AD&D back in the day: a Gnome Illusionist.

Basically I want to destroy the minds of my enemies with trickery and frustration until their crumpled weeping forms and broken minds lie before me.

While any official 3.5 books by WotC are allowed articles and 3rd party items are not.

While I DM alot I have found it a bit disorienting to be in the PC creation seat. So I turn to you, loyal minions and guardians of the Playground: is my dream one that hears the anachronistic sound of indoor plumbing in a medieval setting? Or is there some glamour of hope?

The usefulness of an Illusionist depends a lot on the DM. Specifically when and where the DM allows/demands a saving through to disbelieve your illusions.

There is an article on the Wizards of the coast archive somewhere, I'll try to link it if I can find it...

Thanks! I'll keep poking about as well via searchfu.

This (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20060207a) could (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20060214a) be (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20060221a) useful. (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20060228a) Especially the third one.

Those are nice thanks.

One decision you'll want to make is whether you want to focus on "classical" illusions that just trick people, or also make use of Shadow spells that have some degree of reality. If you want to do the latter, here's the most optimized version (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=5638.0).

I'm waiting for my Races of Stone to arrive in the mail. So that works out nicely.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad it meets general approval too!
