Hi Playground,

I'm playing a new 15-level Malconvoker tonight and time is short. I'm looking for a spell that will give me a decent buff to my UMD check, since I'm going to be trying to keep our team healthy by using divine spells (eg Restoration) from scrolls etc. I'm aware of Heroism but I need spells that give larger bonuses to one skill rather than small ones to all. My caster level progression is as a 13-level wizard, since I lose one level from Factotum 1 and 1 level from Malconvoker 1.

My build is Factotum 1, Conjurer 3, Master Specialist 3, Malconvoker 8, in case it matters.

My budget is extremely limited so if you're going to suggest a magic item it needs to be quite cheap.

Thanks!

I think the best thing to grab would be finding a manifester of Psychic Reformation, to reshuffle your skill points. At level 15, you should have 18 ranks in Use Magic Device, and with a masterwork tool, and possible synergy bonuses, and your Cha mod, it becomes really hard to fail the check for scrolls, and almost impossible to fail for wands.

Otherwise, for suitably good bonuses, if you can take Extra Spell for off-list spells, Wieldskill is a +5 bonus for several minutes as a level 1 spell, and Guidance of the Avatar is a 2nd-level spell for a +20 bonus on a single check.

Other options are to forego the divine scrolls and use Summon Monster spells to get creatures with useful abilities. Summon Monster IV, for example, can bring you a Cervidal Guardinal, which can negate any disease and poison. Summon Monster VII can get you a Movanic Deva, which has Cure Serious Wounds, Remove Curse, Remove Disease, Remove Fear, Neutralize Poison, and even Raise Dead. Incredibly useful.

With a CL 13, Improvisation will give you a +6 to four skill checks/attacks rolls used within 13 rounds. But it's only on the Bard list.

Thanks! I've already maxed out my skill ranks, but I want to be sure. I'll check out the spells.

The usual go-to is Guidance of the Avatar (https://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/sb/sb20010504a) (+20 as noted by Forrestfire).
