My first DM had this bad habit of using Care Bears as monsters, and they were not cute. What do you think?

Size/Type: Small Annoying (Extraplanar)

Armor Class: 20 (+2 Dex, +8 natural), touch 12, flat-footed 18
Base Attack/Grapple: +20/+16
Attack: Claw +26 melee (2d8+5)
Full Attack: Claws +26/+26/+21/+21 melee (2d8+5)
Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks: Vorpal Claws, Care Bear Stare (Color Spray at will basically)
Special Qualities: Damage reduction 10/cold iron, darkvision 60 ft.
Saves: Fort +14, Ref +8, Will +6
Abilities: Str 20, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 18
Skills: Listen +23, Move Silently +25, Spot +23
Feats: Alertness, Dodge, Improved Initiative, Weapon Focus (Vorpal Claws)
Environment: A crappy forest or hippy camp :smallwink:
Organization: Solitary or gang (2-4)
Challenge Rating: 12
Treasure: None
Alignment: Always chaotic evil

Each one will have a unique extra ability related to whatever crappy picture is on thier chest. That is a total DM choice

It's small? I assume you're not using an actual carebear against 28mm models then?

good grief.

I'd say have some low, medium and high level care bears. You should have a list of stare abilities, a menu, for each level. Disintegrate is higher-end. charm person and/or dominate is a must for most of them. Scorching ray, lightning bolt, whatever. The unicorn and gramma bear should be 20 HD avatars.

in fact, a feat tree for special maneuvers wouldn't be bad: bull rush with stare, reduce person, whatever.

But yeah, stagger the CR so you can have minions and leaders; that way lower level PCs can meet them.
