Hello everyone. So since my last character idea was ban:smallfrown:, So i decided to play a changeling gestalt character who really good at infiltration place and impersonating people. so i got two questions.

1. i want to go into the chameleon prestige class but don't know which combination would be best,
- Factotum/beguiler
- Factotum/rogue
- Rogue/beguiler

2. i would like to pay a weapon smith to create a weapon that could shape-change into other weapons. i already know of the morphing, sizing, changeling, enchantments but i got a few questions about them.
a) morphing allows the weapon to change into any other weapon of the same type such as all simple weapons, right?
b) what does the changeling enchantment do other then just change what type of spear you have, which are all simple weapons,
c) is there some combination of enchantments that would allow my weapon to change into any weapon of any type (simple, martial, exotic).
d) if i had the Sizing+morphing+changeling(if it somehow helps) enchantments on a spear, what would the cost be.

i suggest factotum beguiler. i really don't see a reason to play rogue if factotum is on the table.

also factotum can give you a handful of spells from other schools on the wizard list each day. add your uber int to other rolls and increase skills. its worth it.

factotum/beguiler is good, but factotum/wizard is better.

yes but just because it is better does not mean you should play it and it only. if he wants beguiler then beguiler is pretty damn good.

Changeling Rogue (by which I mean the substitution level from Races of Eberron) is a pretty darn good reason to play Rogue (or at least to dip it at first level), even if Factotum is on the table. Skill Mastery for almost all of the key face skills at level 1 is crazy good.

After level 1, stick with Rogue, go with Factotum, whatever. Either will serve you well. But for a social character, you basically can't get better than Changeling Rogue for level 1.

i have never used the substitution level so it slipped my mind.

yes go something like this if you don't care for alignment and settings

changling rogue 1/ factotum 19// beguiler 5/ mindbender 1/ beguiler 2 / shadow adept 10/ beguiler 2

or replace mindbender with Visionary Seeker if your good.

or just go beguiler 5/ mindbender 1 (or vis seeker 1)/ beguiler 14 if your DM cares about setting stuff, straight beguiler is pretty good but the dip means that you put off advanced learning until you get third level spells for a better advanced learning.

Shadow adept are Forgotten Realms, and OP explicitly asked for something leading up to taking Chameleon

I'm not too familiar w/ the info discussed in your second question, but as far as your first one goes I love me some sneaky social changelings.

I couldn't agree more. If I play a changeling, I try to make space for Changeling Rogue 1 because of the social skill mastery. Having more skill points doesn't hurt either...

changling rogue 1/ factotum 19// beguiler 5/ mindbender 1/ beguiler 2 / shadow adept 10/ beguiler 2

The mindbender dip is great for talking to people's brains and picking up Mindsight for effective scouting. However, I know you were trying to find a spot for chameleon in your build. If you really care more about masquerading as other people and walking in the front door of basically anywhere, I'd recommend the following:

You wind up with the ability to add INT to a ton of stuff, sure. But you can also burn Inspiration for the following:

+11 to any skill you've got 1 rank in (for impersonating those with skills you don't have)
An extra standard action
Ignoring SR (if you're posing as a powerful caster) or DR (if you're posing as a strong fighter)
You already know what Chameleon levels do for you, but I'd suggest not completing the PrC. Sure, you lose out on 6th-level spells, 1 use per day of Mimic Class feature, and 1 use per day of aptitude focus. However, this allows you to do two things:

Take factotum to 11, allowing you to burn inspiration to ignore SR (which is essentially the beguiler capstone we're giving up by not going beguiler 20).
Take a splash in exemplar for skill mastery in 1+INT skills beyond what you can already do as a changeling rogue so you're literally an expert in everything. Using this alongside Cunning Knowledge guarantees you a minimum skill check of 22 before factoring in ability scores, etc. (taking 10+11 Cunning Knowledge+1 rank).
On the other side of the gesalt, you only wind up with 7th level spells, but the detours into Cabinet Trickster and Mindbender allow you to be the most changelingy changeling that ever changelinged. For 6 levels of investment, you gain the ability to change shape and read thoughts at will as well as the ability to speak telepathically within 100 ft. The thought tricks are a fun little addition, but their DCs are relatively low without some focus on save debuffing. Still, they're icing on this changeling cake.
