I'm fighting a dragon soon. I recall there's a spell that's a ranged touch attack that does dex damage. What's it called, again? The dragonslaying spell of choice, I believe...

You're probably thinking of shivering touch, from Frostburn. It is, however, melee touch, not ranged touch.

Shivering Touch, from Frostburn. It is also notorious for being ridiculously overpowered.

If Shivering Touch is low enough level, you can deliver it at range if you also use Spectral Hand.

Level 3 spell. Archivist using it...

If you don't mind losing a hand, you could also use Lahm's Finger Darts from BoVD. It's a level lower than shivering touch, and does up to 5d4 dex damage from medium(100+10/cl) range. You lose a finger and take 1 point of str damage for each dart that you fire though, so keep a restoration on hand from a buddy.

Oh, and it's a corrupt spell.

'' so keep a restoration on hand''

'' so keep a restoration on hand''

I see what you did there. And I approve.

There's also Lahm's finger darts (BoVD, Corrupt 2). Autohits, 1d4 Dex damage per finger, Save: No SR: Yes.

Restoration? Restoration doesn't bring body parts back. Takes Regeneration for that.

Or do the fingers shot grow back on their own?

Ah, they do grow back. Still, a bitter cost.

Also Dust of Choking and Sneezing, while not Dex damage, makes a dragon fight a piece of cake. No save, no spell resistance, no actions. Incapacitate the dragon and then render helpless at your leisure.

Maybe your thinking of Ice Knife? Its a ranged spell that does 2d6 dex damage I think...

Maybe your thinking of Ice Knife? Its a ranged spell that does 2d6 dex damage I think...Ice knife deals only 2 DEX damage, 2d8 cold damage though.

A maximized shivering touch delivered by spectral hand or modified with the reach spell metamagic is the go to spell for Dragons. You will still have to overcome SR on bigger dragons though.

It may not be dex damage, but you could always also go with Enervation, it is a Ray that deals 1d4 negative levels. If you really wanted to get nasty you could try casting an empowered or maximized version of it on the dragon, though as it has been said you'll have to deal with Spell Resistance on more powerful dragons.

Earthbind is hard to beat, as well. Puts the dragon in melee touch reach without spectral hand.

Earthbind is hard to beat, as well. Puts the dragon in melee touch reach without spectral hand. That spell is not very good against dragons. It allows a Fort save, dragons have strong Fort saves and pretty high CON. Additionally it has to overcome the Dragon's Spell Resistance.

Even if it works you only have denied the dragon one form of movement. 10 DEX damage will make any dragon helpless.
