One-use metamagic items

Are there any items that let you use metamagic with a spell?

Sort of like "for 150 gold, you can extend one spell upto 6th level" or something similar?

Edit: I know the rods, but they're 3/day everyday. I'm looking for something more potion or token-like

There are metamagic spell components as a variant rule in Unearthed Arcana.

Check Complete Mage pages 135-136. For certain schools of magic and certain metamagic feats, yes, they exist.

(My favorite: Fairy Dust + creeping cold. 21d6 damage over 6 rounds out of a 2nd-level spell slot.)

Some of the substances in BoED/BoVD/CoH/CoV can be consumed as part of casting a spell for bonuses, I think some of them provide metamagic type benefits.
