I'm applying to join an online Forgotten Realms game played with Pathfinder rules. I'm relatively familiar with Forgotten Realms, mostly via playing a lot of Baldur's Gate back in the day and while I've never played Pathfinder I do know D&D 3.5 so I can get the mechanics. Anyway I've been looking through the mechanics and I find the idea of playing a False Priest (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/sorcerer/archetypes/paizo---sorcerer-archetypes/razmiran-priest) Sorcerer really interesting.
Any ideas on fitting such a character into a Forgotten Realms framework? I'm working with the idea that my character originally came from Amn and after many of his relatives were arrested for practicising illegal wizardy by the Cowled Wizards he hid his inherited magical skills by becoming a 'priest' and started preaching. I'm still trying to decide where to go though, with these options coming to mind:
1. He is a priest of a dead or missing god. Unfortunately the dead gods I am familiar with, Bhaal and Myrkul, are absurdly evil so don't really fit well with my Chaotic Neutral charlatan type.
2. An obscure 'foreign' god, appropriated for local worship. Like one of the Zakharan deities who are unlikely to be well known in the north.
3. An out and out made up deity.
Any advice would be appreciated.
