I need to call those guys and ask what I should do to fix up my application for next year. I'm guessing it's going to be the same thing Purdue told me, which is just to go get more experience, especially with something besides cats and dogs. I'm recovering from wrist surgery so I can't really "work" properly but I'm expecting to start shadowing at the Bronx Zoo later this week now that I can (more or less) drive again.
