It's been too long into the year to do a daily thread... this year I've been doing a page of quick sketches of human musculature every day. I'm at 59 drawings for the whole year, so that is one day behind (not counting today) and here is some of the finished stuff I've been up to.

I'd say using colourful media is your strongest point, but you're clearly doing some awesome development with pens and pencils too! Keep up the good work, lad!

Hmm. I'm never quite satisfied with my colorful stuff. Which particular colorful media examples are you thinking of?

On that note, I did this last night.

That's a lovely bird. Looks like a cross between a robin and a woodpecker of some sort. I'm slightly jealous of your artistic skills  I especially like the colour-transitions between the chest and the back, I think for some reason that really stands out.

Thanks! I did make the beak too long... Hah. Look at this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?322919-Cuthalion-%28tries-to%29-make-a-daily-drawing) to see my "artistic skills" a year ago.

Pretty much everything you've made. You have an excellent eye for colour combinations and as SF mentions above, the colour transitions work very well even in your earlier stuff. Your strokes also seem more natural and relaxed in a coloured medium.

Mmm...

I what?

I didn't... not I what not know huh.

*still jealous* No, I don't think you quite understand just how terrible I am. The first drawing in that thread is so far out of my league it's not even funny actually quite amusing. :smalltongue:

Practice practice. I got to where I was by copying a bunch of drawings out of a book, and got to where I am by drawing my own animals.

Are there a lot of birds where you live?

Cuthalion

Mostly mourning doves, rock doves, crows, ravens, and LBB's. I just like drawing them is all, and other people like taking pictures of them.

These are fantastic! I love the horse (my favourite animal) and the Green-cheeked Conure is just adorable. Reminds me of a Kea (http://www.nhc.net.nz/index/birds-new-zealand/kea/keapics/kea_5.jpg) (only Kea have a much more vicious-looking beak, which I've only just realised...)

I'd also like to see those human musculature highlights if you ever get around to uploading them.

Erm...

Well I want to get better at humans. The point is that I'm not so good yet. So I revert to animals, since they're easier, and particularly birds because I find them enjoyable. So they're the ones I voluntarily show others the most.

Here's the link (idrewanoctopus.tumblr.com) to the other thing. I did them way back and it was largely outlines...

I have been working on anatomy now, though.

I think there's something wrong with your link... it's not showing any image and it's a bit... involved...

Also, I love your birds and that one of Yosemite is just gorgeous. That's the kind of thing I'd stick in a frame and hang on my wall

Wow, you're really good Cuthalion. I never knew you could draw. These are all excellent drawings. Even the human stuff on I Drew An Octopus look like they are getting better from where you started.

I only have one criticism..... I don't see an octopus. :smallannoyed: But then, they are masters of disguise, so perhaps I'm just not looking in the right place.

You've gotten heaps better, even from the start of this thread

I've heard that their skulls are actually what originated the cyclops legend, as once the trunk's rotted away there's a large hole in the front that looks like an eye.

I love that you're trying out new techniques! Definitely improvement. You sometimes say that you don't see that big of a difference, but have you compared stuff you did two years back to where you are now?

Glad to see that you're getting on anatomy as well. Humans are my favourite thing to draw, but it's by no means easy. At all. I think perhaps try practicing using less short lines when sketching and try to figure out how to curve long lines in for example lips, so that it doesn't look too fuzzy.

Yup. I'm tryyyying with the lines and everyone tells me to practice. I will do it more, even when it's not necessary.
