The Agios

In the dawning twilight of the universe there were may small lifeforms before even the titans and lawgivers had formed. They bore a unbridled durability to the harsh extremes of their "world." Their durability did not however extend to the wrath and ire of the titans and lawgivers. At a moment when the titans and lawgivers war spilled out to these fragile being the first agios formed to deny them.

After a time the agios discerned that it could no longer protect the small beings. In a last act of sacrifice the agios bound the small beings in stasis until a time when the great beings would not threaten their survial. The agios's essence was bound in each of the small beings which spread throughout the universe. Now all beasts and people bear some of the universe's will to defend those who bear the greatest seed and will to protect find they can call on the agios's power in times of need.

Knight’s Mythos: An Agios’s power is expressed in terms of one or more "Mythos", the building blocks of the legend that they are, and the stories that they have told and will tell. While any given Mythos varies from the rest, they share some similar traits. They are always Extraordinary abilities, and when they reference a difficulty class for an imposed saving throw, that saving throw is always calculated as (10 + 1/2 class level + Charisma modifier, unless otherwise stated). When a Mythos references a "level" that is not clearly defined in some other way, such as "character level", it refers to "class level" as in the number of levels one has in the Agios class. When a Mythos references "allies", it specifically does not refer to the Agios using it. When a Mythos grants a feat as a bonus feat, it is regardless of whether the character meets the prerequisites for that feat (unless otherwise stated), and if the character already possesses that feat (in some permanent fashion - via the normal allotment gained by leveling up, or through another Mythos, and so on, but not those gained temporarily, such as via a "Heroics" spell), they must replace the prior instance of that feat with another feat that they qualify for.

Every Mythos has a Tier. The Tier of a Mythos ranges from 1 to 4, typically referred to as Exceptional, Fantastic, Legendary, and Exalted. Exceptional Mythos tell the story of righteous and stalwart heroes that have defended the villages from attack or gallant knights who defended their lord. An Agios with Fantastic Mythos is has gained the powers of a truly honorable man, while the common knight will stand between his liege and the horde the Agios will wade forth with the hordes breaking on his shield or blade. The world around them is safer and those around him have more than taken notice. Their cause is known and through the Agios’s deeds other know their cause. A Legendary Agios takes the world as his charge bringing light, protection, and guidance to all as a bastion of what is right and how to act. They guide the future and guard it from those who would see their ideals undone. An Exalted Agios is an eternal beacon of the light. Standing stalwart guard over planes taking the battle wherever the forces of your enemies would strike. Not only are they the shield of the weak against corruption but they are the champion of their ideals.

Some Mythos, in addition to their initial stated effect, have Basic and Advanced manifestations. When an Agios gains access to a Mythos with a list of Basic manifestations, they may choose one such manifestation, and they gain that benefit immediately as well. This choice may not be changed later. When an Agios gains access to a Mythos with a list of Advanced manifestations, they may choose one such manifestation, and they gain that benefit upon achieving their next level of Agios. This choice may be changed at any point before receiving the chosen manifestation itself, but not after (choosing beforehand is just a easy way to mark it down on your character sheet so you don't forget that you'll be getting something later).

Mythos Known: A 1st level Agios begins play with two Exceptional Mythos that he qualifies for if this is his first level in a PC character class. At higher levels, he gains additional Mythos as noted on the Agios class table.

For characters that multiclass into Agios after having taken levels in another PC character class, the 1st level of Agios grants only a single Exceptional Mythos, rather than two.

An Agios also has the ability to learn more Mythos, above the ones automatically allotted to him by leveling up, by pursuing inner strength at the expense of external strength. The exact method varies for each Agios; some give to organizations that create a positive change, others tend to animals and people, denying a reward for services rendered, while still others relinquish great works of their hand to lesser men so they might defend themselves in times when the Agios cannot. In all cases, the Agios must somehow lose gold or items, in such a way that does not otherwise mechanically benefit him or his allies, with the understanding that he will never attempt to reclaim what was lost (otherwise, the sacrifice would mean nothing, and therefore yield no enlightenment). He then gains Mythos Points equal to the gold piece value of the currency or items removed.

By spending 1,000 Mythos Points, and 250xp, an Agios may learn an Exceptional Mythos. A Fantastic Mythos requires 5,000 Mythos Points and 500xp. A Legendary Mythos takes 10,000 Mythos Points, and 1,000xp. And an Exalted Mythos takes 20,000 Mythos Points and 2,000xp.

For half the listed price for a given Tier, an Agios may learn a Basic or Advanced manifestation of a Mythos they already know of that Tier.

Learning Mythos above the standard amount requires astounding, nearly single-minded devotion to the story of the Agios. One may only utilize this ability while more than half of his effective character level (ECL) is devoted to levels in the Agios class.

Excellence of the Honor-bound: As denoted on their class table, an Agios gains a certain number of abilities known as "Excellencies". These tend to be more general, generic, and passive than a Mythos, but are useful nonetheless, and are drawn from their own separate list, unsegregated by Tiers. Like a Mythos, an Agios may learn more Excellencies above their allotted amount. Each one costs 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp, plus an additional 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp for each time a new Excellency is innovated beyond the first. (So, 2,000mp and 200xp for the second, 3,000mp and 300xp for the third, etc.)

Valorous Defender At level 1 the Agios gains the constant guardian feat and the dutiful guardian feat. After your change places as a result of the dutiful guardian feat you gain mythos points equal to the damage from the initiating attack(before damage mitigation abilities). Any reference in this class to a charge refers to someone targeted by Constant Guardian.

Starting at the 3rd level any defensive bonus the agios gains he may choose to lose and grant it to his charge. Defensive bonuses include: Any Agios class feature that does not specify otherwise, Shield Bonus, Feats, and effects you actively use to defend with: such as combat expertise or martial maneuver that negates an attack.

Starting at the 5th level Constant Guardian and Dutiful Guardian's ranges increase to your move speed.

Starting at the 7th level the agios grants his charge his charisma bonus as a deflection bonus to their AC(min 1).

Starting at the 9th level the agios may have a number of creatures targeted by Constant Guardian equal to their class level -7, to a maximum of their charisma modifier(min 2).

Legendary Mythos

Eternal Watcher Skyfall
Prerequisite: -

In times of need the agios seems to appear from nowhere. Like a guardian falling from the sky. Whenever a creature within 1 mile of the agios calls out for help the agios hears them. He instantly knows the kind of danger they are in and knows the motivations of the danger. If the danger is at least twice the caller’s CR, the Agios may teleport instantly between the caller and the danger, unless doing so would protect someone of the agios's opposed alignment from "Justice". If the danger is an attacker then the agios appears adjacent to the caller. Upon your arrival the caller is targeted by constant guardian. If the Agios gets an additional call before he has dealt with his current call he may choose to answer immediately or wait till the current task is done.

Advanced

The Abomination believed he had finally claimed the prize that evaded him the corpse of the Guardian and with it the Moon. The moon evaded capture and the agios returned to the vast nothing truly transcending the absolution of the abomination.

When the agios dies they do not fall but become a spirit watching over those marked by their grace. When the agios dies they gain the Aether subtype. When within charisma modifier x 25ft of a charge they gain the ghost touch property whenever their charge would come to harm. During this time the agios usually appears to be pure radiant light or even a shadow with blurred features. The agios may revive once they have accrued sufficient mythos points to purchase a exalted manifestation.

Aether subtype is identical the ethereal subtype with the exception you interact with all planes the same as you exist outside every version of existence with out being a vestige.

Heart Undaunted By Infinity
Prerequisite: Heart Unbound by Blood, Heart Unquenched In Darkness, Heart Unswayed By Honey
[Resolve]

The agios reduces all damage taken by 10 + 1 per time damage was taken in the encounter, this may not be transferred to the agios's charge. All allies in the agios's Heart Unquenched In Darkness received the 10 base. The agios's charges receive the stacking benefit as well. The agios takes the damage prevented from the allies, his reduced damage taken applies to this damage as well.

If someone make a full attack action each attack would count separately for number of times the agios took damage, but if the damage is done simultaneously like a fire ball then it is one instance of damage.

This mythos ignores all rules that state "this damage cannot be prevented".

Errant’s Mythos: A Petitor’s power is expressed in terms of one or more "Mythos", the building blocks of the legend that they are, and the stories that they have told and will tell. While any given Mythos varies from the rest, they share some similar traits. They are always Extraordinary abilities, and when they reference a difficulty class for an imposed saving throw, that saving throw is always calculated as (10 + 1/2 class level + Charisma modifier, unless otherwise stated). When a Mythos references a "level" that is not clearly defined in some other way, such as "character level", it refers to "class level" as in the number of levels one has in the Petitor class. When a Mythos references "allies", it specifically does not refer to the Petitor using it.

A Petitor with Fantastic Mythos is has gained the powers of a truly honorable man, while the common knight will stand between his liege and the horde the Petitor will wade forth with the hordes breaking on his shield or blade. The world around them is safer and those around him have more than taken notice. Their cause is known and through the Petitor’s deeds other know their cause. A Legendary Petitor takes the world as his charge bringing light, protection, and guidance to all as a bastion of what is right and how to act. They guide the future and guard it from those who would see their ideals undone. An Exalted Petitor is an eternal beacon of the light.

When a Petitor gains access to a Mythos with a list of Advanced manifestations, they may choose one such manifestation, and they gain that benefit upon achieving their next level of Petitor. This choice may be changed at any point before receiving the chosen manifestation itself, but not after (choosing beforehand is just a easy way to mark it down on your character sheet so you don't forget that you'll be getting something later).

Mythos Known: A 1st level Petitor begins play with two Exceptional Mythos that he qualifies for if this is his first level in a PC character class. At higher levels, he gains additional Mythos as noted on the Petitor class table.

For characters that multiclass into Petitor after having taken levels in another PC character class, the 1st level of Petitor grants only a single Exceptional Mythos, rather than two.

A Petitor also has the ability to learn more Mythos, above the ones automatically allotted to him by leveling up, by pursuing inner strength at the expense of external strength. The exact method varies for each Petitor; some give to organizations that create a positive change, others tend to animals and people, denying a reward for services rendered, while still others relinquish great works of their hand to lesser men so they might defend themselves in times when the Petitor cannot. In all cases, the Petitor must somehow lose gold or items, in such a way that does not otherwise mechanically benefit him or his allies, with the understanding that he will never attempt to reclaim what was lost (otherwise, the sacrifice would mean nothing, and therefore yield no enlightenment). He then gains Mythos Points equal to the gold piece value of the currency or items removed.

By spending 1,000 Mythos Points, and 250xp, a Petitor may learn an Exceptional Mythos. A Fantastic Mythos requires 5,000 Mythos Points and 500xp. A Legendary Mythos takes 10,000 Mythos Points, and 1,000xp. And an Exalted Mythos takes 20,000 Mythos Points and 2,000xp.

For half the listed price for a given Tier, a Petitor may learn a Basic or Advanced manifestation of a Mythos they already know of that Tier.

Learning Mythos above the standard amount requires astounding, nearly single-minded devotion to the story of the Petitor. One may only utilize this ability while more than half of his effective character level (ECL) is devoted to levels in the Petitor class.

Excellence of the Honor-bound: As denoted on their class table, a Petitor gains a certain number of abilities known as "Excellencies". These tend to be more general, generic, and passive than a Mythos, but are useful nonetheless, and are drawn from their own separate list, unsegregated by Tiers. Like a Mythos, a Petitor may learn more Excellencies above their allotted amount. Each one costs 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp, plus an additional 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp for each time a new Excellency is innovated beyond the first. (So, 2,000mp and 200xp for the second, 3,000mp and 300xp for the third, etc.)

Fate and Tragedy: Many of the abilities for Petitor have a tragic aspect tied to them usually resulting in a flaw in the character of Petitor. When a Petitor triggers the effect of a Mythos they gain 1 fate point. Fate points can be used to

I think this needs a way to add your CHA to your total amount of AoO.

Also, the Shintai isn't really a Shintai, it's just an admittedly awesome Mythos. Either ditch the word Shintai or change the may into a must.

Haven't looked too deeply into it, but you might want a note on the Shintai like:

"You know the alignments of both the attacking creature and the one calling for help. If the creature calling for help is the same alignment as you or within one step, you must help them. If the one calling for help opposes you on either axis (Law-Chaos, Good-Evil) you are not forced to help them. Especially if the one attacking them has an alignment that matches or is within one step of your's."

This prevents, for example, a Lawful Good Agios attacking a Lawful Good Paladin in defence of a Chaotic Evil murderer.

I'll have another look later, for ya.

Kymme

Another way to take the Shintai would be to expand it to cover an absolutely MASSIVE area, and the Agios always hears people's calls for help in that area. He is constantly forced to protect people by teleporting to their sides, but if he gets two calls for help at the same time (and believe me, with a wide area, he will) he has to choose which one to answer.

That's the kind of sadistic potential that a Shintai needs.

Also added the ability to place a protection feild around a structure as an advanced mythos that works just like the one radiating from the agios. Also added choosing to stay and help or go help other.

Just pointing out but LE one of these in the BBEG's lair with my shintai would be terrifying.

Like don't know who id run from if an epifovian was on one end of a corridor and LE agios was on he other.

Added Shiney new excellence my friend brony inspired the idea, the name is a quote from him.

What happens if an Agios takes both The Brighter You Shine and The Darker Your Shadow? Does turning one on switch the other off, or do they naturally cancel out until one is disabled?

The Shintai doesn't seem to be strong enough. Compare to some of the other Shinai. The ability to teleport to protect other people is....simply not as strong as what others get.

It needs more abilities.

yes they would negate each other as written, but I'm adding a mutually exclusive clause in them.

I was debating on it. As It does seem just to basic and not drastic other than you have to help people. Main problem is adding the right thing to it. Until further expansion of the class ill be removing shintai from it.

Thanks for making this class. It has some extremely useful abilities for my Bellator/Warder Gestalt, which I brought in by using the Broken Amalgam feat chain. My weaponmaster tank character feels more like a tank now.

Due to design concerns form people around the design of Agios's primary shield mythos I'm thinking of reworking it away form the % chance DR and going to abusing standard shield feats. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ardent Aegis Bulwark
Prerequisite: -

Shields no longer grant a bonus to AC. You now gain a (20 + str mod + Shield bonus + Combat Expertise's AC bonus)% chance to block (class level+Str mod+Shield bonus) physical damage from incoming attack. While Fighting Defensively the chance is doubled. While performing Total Defense all incoming attacks are blocked. Using a tower shield increases the block chance by 10 and using a buckler decreases the block chance by 10.

Advanced
Insurmountable: Gain +1% block chance per enemy that threatens you.
Swift Redoubt Interception: Any charge in the agios's reach is treated as the agios for the purposes of Ardent Aegis Bulwark.
Righteous Thorns: When you block a melee attack the attacker takes 1d4+cha mod force damage.
Renewal: When you block an attack gain fast healing equal to your cha mod, not greater than level, until the end of your next turn.

With another mythos that can double % chance.

The concern is the tedium of checking and reducing each attack and the moment a bunch of people attack you or someone your protecting and you just say no.

Ardent Aegis Bulwark
Prerequisite: -

Shield bonus to AC projects to all allies in the Agios' reach(min 5ft) and the agios gain Shield Focus and Shield Specialization. Additionally gain DR x/-

Advanced
Insurmountable: Gain +1 Shield bonus to AC per 2 enemies that threatens you.
Righteous Thorns: When a melee attack misses someone benefiting from your shield by an amount equal to your Shield bonus, the attacker takes 1d4+cha mod force damage.
Renewal: When attack misses someone benefiting from your shield by an amount equal to your Shield bonus, attacks target gains fast healing equal to your cha mod, not greater than level, until the end of your next turn.

Nonono. That is literally one of the best things about this class the way it is now. It's unique, interesting, and allows a different form of tanking than just... 'increase AC so you don't get hit - also here's a tiny bit of DR that is either easily ignored or just doesn't matter'. I know it's certainly one of the main reasons why I worked Agios into my own Mythic character. It's very easy to raise your AC to crazy levels even not as a Mythic character, and much easier as. Please don't remove or change this fun ability that lets some of us mitigate our DMs' AC woes.

So, when the Valorous Defender allows you to transfer any defensive bonus to your charge, what exactly does that entail? The wording itself would imply only transferring things like the save bonus from a Cloak of Resistance or the dodge bonus from Haste, but Heart Undaunted by Infinity specifies that the base effect cannot be transferred (instead being separately applied), implying that Damage Reduction and similar abilities qualify as well. Does this then extend to things such as the blocking chance from Ardent Aegis Bulwark, inherent natural armor bonuses, Immunities to certain effects (such as Aura of Courage), or abilities that reduce certain types of damage by half and such? If so, you might want to tweak the wording.

Unfortunately it requires a little smart play but basically, you provide any effect you could reasonably confer to someone else so nat armor is out but Ardent Aegis Bulwark is part of what was intended, I'll be expanding the section to define that more clearly.
