Tiger's Mansion (Plot)

Tiger teleports in, Catherine in a net.

Catherine tries to use the Gent's amulet of return, and all that ends up happening is that it vanishes.
She narrows her eyes and decides to make sure that Tinderhall's pebble doesn't meet the same fate.

The Tiger cuts open the net.
Welcome to my humble home. Don't try anything funny, I have guards everywhere and this house is completely magic-proof. Other than weapons and armor, no magic at all.

Catherine scowls and flexes her hands. She doesn't stand yet.

Tiger waits.

[AmberVael]

What do you want from me?

Information. You see, I am a hunter of demon, devils, and dragons.

Catherine glares.
I don't have anything to tell you that you don't know. Hell, you probably know more than me.

[Raistlin1040]

If so, I'll just kill you. You better hope you know more than me.

Catherine resolves not to give away the secret of her MAGE system until she has a good chance.
Look, you have no idea what you're doing here.

Enlighten me.

[AmberVael]

I'm not a fiend. I just got tainted.
Catherine looks at him pleadingly.
Please, just let me go.

[Raistlin1040]

He shrugs
Why you'd want to be one of them is beyond me. And even if you aren't knowledgable, perhaps a fiendish friend will drop in to rescue you. I can get the information from them.

Catherine sighs, holding her arms around herself.
This has the side effect of concealing her MAGE system.

[Nevrmore]

The faint sound of flittering fabric might be heard outside as "Clarence", the One-Horned Devil, lands and inspects the mansion.

This is where the man said she'd be.

((Oh come on, do you know how much time I wasted with this devil guy which would have not happened if you would have answered me hours before I even conceived him when I posted "Is this a closed plot?"))

((Well this is based upon Ekrath's prophecy which was posted many times in the Omnishop. Shining Knight, Mysterious Man, Maiden, Tiger. Your demon isn't any of those.))

((Well I'd be more inclined to let him in if two criteria were met. 1, he wasn't evil. Ekrath=Paladin=no evil party members. And 2=He didn't want to recruit Catherine.))

((He doesn't want to recruit Catherine, he was just sent to make sure she wasn't killed by a demon hunter. And besides, he has no interest in working with Ekrath or his party anyway, he'd be like a mercenary or something.

But if you really don't want him to be here, I'll just plot him away, I guess...))

Besides having your paladin clash with the devil, or having the devil try and hide his nature from you, would prove very interesting.

Clarence stands there outside the window, feeling himself start to slip away.

((Oh, yay then.))

Clarence begins stalking around the perimeter of the house, looking for a way in.

Gent arrives at the mansion and leans against a tree while waiting for Ekrath.

Follow the chocolate... follow the chocolate..))

Catherine tries to stand and figure out where she is.

((*pounces the egg* CADBURY!!!!!))

[Sophistemon]

Gent leaves the tree and makes his way up to the doorstep, where he continues to wait for Ekrath.

Clarence is careful that no guards, if there are any as The Tiger says, see him.

Ekrath walks up to Gent.

There are many armed guards but they fail to see the demon.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence looks for a window and, if he finds one, tries to jimmy it open with his rather long claws.

[Sophistemon]

Gent motions to the door. "Shall we knock?"

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath nods.

((You do it.))

The windows are hard to find and even harder to open. But you manage to open one.

[Sophistemon]

Gent raises a gloved hand and knocks on the door, three times. He then lowers his hand and waits.

[Raistlin1040]

A guard answers the door.
"Yes?"

[Nevrmore]

Clarence sneaks into the room and closes the window. He looks around the room he's stepped into.

[Sophistemon]

Gent glances at Ekrath, then smiles at the guard. "Greetings, sir. We are looking for a friend of ours. We were wondering if you might have seen her?"

[Raistlin1040]

The room is fairly empty, just a gold statue and a few torches

The guard raises an eyebrow.
"I'll show you to Tiger. He may be able to help."

[Nevrmore]

Hmmm, conceited much? Clarence thinks, looking at the statue. He shrugs it off, opening the door slowly and peeking out, trying to see if the next room has anyone in it.

[Raistlin1040]

It has a few guards.

[Sophistemon]

Gent nods. "If you would be so kind."

Well, he thinks. There's confirmation that this is prophecy-oriented.

[Raistlin1040]

The guard shows the two to a large room with the Tiger practicing his swordsmanship.
Can I help you?

[Nevrmore]

Clarence holds out a hand, which materializes a twisted black sword from the Underworld, while he also tries to cast Blasphemy on all the guards in the next room.

((Will either kill them outright, paralyze them momentarily, or daze them. Your call.))

The guards freeze.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence runs out of the room and behind each guard, trying to silently kill them by slicing their throats one by one.

They are all killed but one, who manages to escape.

[Sophistemon]

"Greetings, sir. We are looking for a friend of ours, named Catherine. We were wondering if you might have seen her."

[Raistlin1040]

Part devil? Female? Yes she's here.

[Nevrmore]

SCHEISE! Clarence thinks. He uses Greater Teleport to magic himself into the next room over.

[Sophistemon]

"Lovely. May we speak with her, please?"

((Gotta go, man. Sorry.))

[Raistlin1040]

The guard has dissapeared.

No you may not. She is to die soon, but until then, she is a captive. I kill all devils. No exceptions.

Catherine wonders if she could get a chess set or something while she waits. :P

No. She gets a Shogi set.

Catherine accepts this compromise and uses her SEER system discretely to Wiki "Shogi."

Clarence stamps his foot angrily, but calms himself. He casts Invisiblity and peers into the next room.

There is wall. On the wall is a picture.

Clarence looks at the picture.

It is of Starhaven.

Clarence, not really caring about the picture, walks into another room, looking for a hallway that would take him to The Tiger.

As the God of Plot wills it, the demon walks into a maze.

The One-Horned Devil tries to make his way through the maze.

[Raistlin1040]

He is lost. Badly lost.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence begins using Greater Teleport to try and help him with navigating the maze.

[Rebonack]

Since it is utterly incapable of doing anything remotely constructive, and because Rebonack feels like annoying Catherine, the Probe suddenly pops into the fiendish scout's room.

"Hi Catherine! Want to know why today is the best day ever?"

[AmberVael]

Because you're delusional?

[Rebonack]

"Nope!" the Probe bubbles. "I found an entire plane of lost stuff! It's the greatest thing ever!"

It begins bobbing around in the air happily.

[Raistlin1040]

((Nevr, what part of "no-magic" is misunderstood? Your other spell only worked due to the guards being terrified of you.))

[Nevrmore]

((Oh snap, you're right. I completely forgot.))

Clarence realizes that his magic hasn't worked since he entered the domicile. So instead, he growls and looks around some more.

[Raistlin1040]

((You're going to be in the maze until Ekrath and Gent go looking for Catherine.))

[AmberVael]

Well maybe this is the greatest day ever for you.

[Nevrmore]

((I figured as much.))

[Raistlin1040]

((Sorry.))

"Ahhh... You aren't happy today?" the Probe asks as it droops down in the air. "Not even to see me?"

[Nevrmore]

((Hey, no biggy. You allowed me to participate in the plot when you had no reason to, far be it from me to possibly muck it up unless you want it to be so.))

[Raistlin1040]

((You'll meet Tiger. I just don't want you to be there when Ekrath and Gent are.))

Well I'm kind of being held captive here, so forgive me for my foul mood.

[Rebonack]

"Oh no!" the Probe moans. "How come you were captured? What are they going to do to you?"

((You know, I think it would be absolutely hilarious if the prophecy had nothing to do with anyone in Town. Everything fits and then Tiger decides to throw a tea party for everyone. Oops, no one died. I guess the prophecy was about someone else.))

Torture me and kill me?

((The prophecy won't turn out like anyone thinks, I believe.))

[Rebonack]

"That's terrible!" the Probe squeals. "Can I help save you?"

It certainly sounds like it's serious and genuine. However, due to the fact it has no way of manipulating its environment aside from bumping into stuff it may find it difficult to contribute.

Really, the manipulator claw it used to have was getting snagged on stuff, so Regiji removed it.

Catherine frowns and surveys her surroundings.

[Nevrmore]

Meanwhile, Clarence tries in vain to help navigate through the maze by leaving claw marks in hallways he's already been through.

[Sophistemon]

Gent snaps out of Dead Time. "I'm afraid that that's unacceptable, sir. Town law has made murder illegal in any form."

[Raistlin1040]

I am not acually a citizen here. I'm a hunter. I kill my prey.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence continues patrolling the maze, annoyed.

((Can I at least get some guards to slaughter?))

[Sophistemon]

Gent arches an angled eyebrow. "Prey? I don't follow your line of thought. Catherine is a... was a human being. She is a sapient creature, not a prey animal. And as for killing her, I believe that I've already told you how the local law enforcement looks upon murder."

[Raistlin1040]

A mouse comes out from a corner.




I don't care. If life in prison is a fair price to pay for eliminating the monsters of the world, then I'll gladly accept.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence ignores the mouse as he continues.

[Raistlin1040]

The mouse Spring Attacks the demon.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence, annoyed, tries to grab the mouse and throw it off him.

[Raistlin1040]

The mouse has a high AC and dodges the grapple check.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence keeps trying.

[Raistlin1040]

And keeps failing.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence tries to crush the mouse between his back and the wall.

[Sophistemon]

Gent's eyebrows descend as his eyes narrow. He grips his cane angrily. "Catherine is not a monster, despite taint pressed upon her by a denizen of the lower realms. She is a good and noble soul, unworthy of your judgement or your labeling of evil." He smiles again. "Why, if having Infernal blood in your veins makes you a monster, you may as well attempt to hunt me."

[Raistlin1040]

As much as I'd like to, I sense no great evil in you. SHE, however is not a good or noble soul.

((Catherine's alignment is somewhere between LN and LE right Vael?))

[AmberVael]

((That'd be correct. Probably closer to LN))

[Raistlin1040]

((But not a sure LN? Then he's right enough.))

Clarence wonders if he can just break through the walls, and starts hacking away at one.

[Sophistemon]

Gent's grip on his cane tightens, his knuckles turning white beneath his gloves. "I would thank you, sir, if you did not speak of her that way. She is dear to me, and I would not have you defame her so."

[Raistlin1040]

The demon fails

She was not born a demon correct? Then are you aware of how she became one? SEND HER IN!

Some guards grab Catherine and begin dragging her into Tiger's main room.

[AmberVael]

Catherine narrows her eyes but doesn't resist. She does, however, twitch the hand that has the MAGE glove on.

[Raistlin1040]

((How does the MAGE system work exactly? Because Tiger has sunk a lot of GP into making this completely magic/psionic/ect. proof. Like millions of gold.))

The guards make it to the room.

Ask her.

[Sophistemon]

Gent's eyes widen. "Catherine? Are you okay? Have they hurt you?"

[AmberVael]

((Entirely technological, but kinda limited in what it can do))

I'm okay. They haven't done anything. Yet.
Catherine looks slightly frightened.

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath looks angrily at the Tiger
Let her go.
Tiger only laughs.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence continues searching the maze, now not caring whether the mouse is dead or still on him or whatever.

[Sophistemon]

"Don't you worry. We're going to get you out of here." He looks at the Tiger. "Release her this instant."

[AmberVael]

Catherine tightens the fist with the MAGE system on it, and begins using it to assemble a small, sharp sliver of hard matter on her hand.

[Raistlin1040]

No. Unless you can prove that she isn't a demon or devil or whatever bastard creature she is, she stays.
Ekrath lunges at Tiger. Tiger pulls out a jeweled spear and thrusts. He stabs Ekrath, twists the spear, and rips is out. Ekrath steps back, bleeding heavily from his side.

[Sophistemon]

Gent attempts to heal Ekrath with a powerful burst of magical energy. He does this unthinkingly, more as a reflex than anything else. The desire he feels to keep his friends safe runs deep, it seems. He narrows his eyes at Tiger. "I was not asking you, sir. Let. Her. Go."

[AmberVael]

The shard grows large enough to be a substantial object, but still small enough to be held in her hand.
Catherine lets go of it and gently scoots it along the floor behind her with the glove's electron manipulation.

[Raistlin1040]

The magical burst fails to heal Ekrath.
And I'm telling you I won't unless you prove she's not a devil. Prove it or leave.

[Sophistemon]

"She was born a mortal and was granted an Infernal boon during a trip to the lower realms. At the very most she is half-devil, though I would doubt that it stretches so far as that. There. Proven. Release her." He raises his left hand, aims the palm at Ekrath, and tries to heal him again. He puts a lot more energy into it this time.

[AmberVael]

The shard remains on the floor, but Catherine begins to let the forces manipulating it build up, readying to fling it at anyone she might need to injure or kill.

[Raistlin1040]

Unless Gent is Bending, the wounds stays open.

Half devils are as bad if not worse than fulls. And she chose this.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence, now more than annoyed at the maze, screams loudly in frustration.

[Sophistemon]

"You have taken a young woman hostage, kidnapped her against her will. You call her names, like 'monster' and 'prey'. You threaten her with death. Yes, there is evil here, sir, but it is not her. You are the monster here."

[AmberVael]

Catherine waits, hoping she wouldn't have to give her MAGE system's secret away.

[Raistlin1040]

Tiger steps from his chair and leaves.
Seal the exits. Activate the chip.
The guards nod. One runs off and seals all the possible exits. The other attempts to shoot a small arrow at Catherine.

[Sophistemon]

Gent magics a gust of wind, attempting to blow the arrow off course.

[AmberVael]

As the guard attempts to seal off the exit, Catherine lets go of the force holding the shard and slings it at him, trying to send it straight through his calf.

[Raistlin1040]

((NO MAGIC GENT!))

The shard clips his leg, but he's wearing thick armor and in unfazed.

[Sophistemon]

((Oh, right. That explains the failure of the healing...))

Gent attempts to barrel his way inside, past Tiger and the guards.

[AmberVael]

The arrow hits Catherine in the arm, and she gives a small cry of pain as she simply increases heat around the guard who shot it at her.
((like a focused, low level fireball))

[Sophistemon]

"Catherine!" Gent renews his attempt to force his way inside before the door closes.

((If I remember correctly, Gent and Ekrath never actually entered the house.))

[Nevrmore]

Clarence begins horribly defacing the walls with slices from his claws and horn (which, if anyone were watching, would look very strange considering it's coming out of the back of his head), trying to demolish the walls.

[Raistlin1040]

((Yes they did. The guard showed them in.))
The fireball hits the guard and he winces but leaves.

((The arrow prevents Catherine from leaving the house. If she does, she dies.))

[Sophistemon]

Gent calms himself down and looks at Ekrath. He reaches into his pocket and removes a bottle of blue, viscous liquid, which he hands to his injured friend. "Drink it," he says. "It will heal you."

((Non-magical health potion. It works on the principle of a benevolent virus that is introduced into the system, radically speeds up the healing process, and then becomes completely inert so that it can be flushed from the body.))

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath quaffs it and is healed.

As the burned guard leaves he shouts back
"Keep her in here. If she leaves, she's dead."

"What now, Ekrath? I can Bend the door open, I suppose." He blinks. "Then again, I could simply Bend her out of there."

((No. Ekrath and Gent are there.))
Ekrath and Gent are inside by Catherine.
I don't know. You could try.

((Okay. So we're all in the main room. Gotcha))
Catherine frowns and uses her internal SEER system to try and locate any type of poison or substance the arrow may have put into her system.
((Not that she can remove it...))

[Raistlin1040]

((It is a sort of shock collar. If she leaves, she will be struck internally by electricity, killing her within a few minutes.))

((...and how does it work? Even if Catherine doesn't know, it might help for me to know so I can react appropriately.
Does it work only while the arrow is in her?

"First, I want to make sure we can get her out of here safely." He kneels down beside her, another potion in hand. "Drink this. It will fix your arm." He hands her the potion and eyes the thing in her arm.

((There isn't a coller. It was a comparison. It's a poisen (kinda) in her blood.)

Catherine frowns as her SEER system locates the foreign substance and starts giving primitive and sketchy readings on it. She takes the potion and drinks it as she keeps an eye on the red display barely in her vision.

((Potion wouldn't heal it.))

Clarence continues his angry storming through the maze, making sure that no wall is left undamaged and no furniture destroyed.

((It would heal the wound in her arm though, right? Thats all we're trying to do- we aren't trying to get rid of the poison))

((Yeah it would.))

[AmberVael]

Catherine sighs and shakes her head as she keeps monitoring her SEER readings.
Whatever this is isn't going to go away any time soon, if at all. We need to find out where he keeps an antidote.
I'm sure he has one.

((The ironic thing is he doesn't. Unless your DNA and blood were changed.))

"I accidently hit myself with a poisoned arrow!"
"Tough luck. You're never leaving again."

Clarence wonders if Plot will ever allow him out of this thrice damned maze.

((Plot laughs evilly.))

Gent moves to touch the skin of her arm, but stops short. "May I?"

[Raistlin1040]

((Cue words: Changing DNA. Also Vael, are you backed up with avatar requests or are you open?))

Catherine nods, her eyes questioning as she watches the Gent.
((I'm okay at the moment...))

Ekrath looks at Gent
You know, when I was working at my church I learned of a special ritual. A purification rite if you will. It might work.

Catherine looks up sharply.
A what?

[Raistlin1040]

A sort of cleansing ritual.

[AmberVael]

Oh...
Catherine puts her arms around herself.

[Sophistemon]

"I say we give it a shot. If it fails there are always alternatives."

[Nevrmore]

Just as Gent mentions "alternatives", the views shifts back to Clarence, still angrily traversing the maze.

[AmberVael]

Catherine's tail twitches constantly, and she lowers her head a little.

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath smiles nervously
There is sort of one complication.

[Sophistemon]

"I'm sure that I can help. What do you need me to do? I am not without power, despite the anti-magic."

Such an understatement should cause cosmic damage, but he manages to contain it.

[AmberVael]

Catherine doesn't look up.
I should think so.
What is it?

[Sophistemon]

Something ticks in the back of Gent's head as a helpful AIM message alerts his player to how stupid he's being. Gent looks at Ekrath.

"Wait. You are talking about removing the poison from her body, right? Not the Infernal influence? Because she should get a say in that one."

((Sorry about that, Vael.))

I don't think the poison can be removed with the Infernal blood still inside. It's her call, this is just an idea.

Catherine slowly shakes her head.
I'd rather not give that up if I don't have to. Surely there is another way?

[Nevrmore]

Clarence wonders if he'll ever get out of this maze.

Ekrath looks dissapointed for a second.
Not that I know of. And why would you want to keep it?

Catherine tightens her arms around herself and refuses to answer.

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath rolls his eyes and pulls out a book from his coat and begins to read.

[AmberVael]

Catherine glares at Ekrath as he rolls his eyes and clenches her fists, which are still semi-hidden due to her position.

He appears buried in his book.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence wonders if he is ever going to get out of this maze.

[Raistlin1040]

No. He's not. Not for a while...Oh he just did. Ok then. He's out but is far from Ekrath, Gent, and Catherine.

[Sophistemon]

Gent kneels down next to Catherine. "We'll think of something, Catherine. Don't worry."

[Nevrmore]

Thank Mephisto... Clarence says as he exits the maze. He examines the room he is in.

Catherine nods and then looks up at him.
Couldn't you do something?

[Raistlin1040]

On the wall is a map to tiger's room.

[Sophistemon]

Gent sighs. "I could, but it would require bending you."

He gets an idea. "If I could get a sample of the poison, I could concoct an antidote."

[Nevrmore]

Clarence rips the map off the wall, being careful to keep it intact, and follows it to Tiger's room.

So we'd need some of my blood?

[Raistlin1040]

Won't work.


The demon begins making his way to Tiger's room.

[Nevrmore]

Yes. Yes he does.

[AmberVael]

How do you know?
You haven't even really had a chance to figure out what it is!

[Raistlin1040]

I know enough. If it works at all, your blood won't contain enough of it to make a successful antidote. For that to happen, we'd have to empty all of your blood. If you'd allow me to fix your taint, we'd be out of here by now!

[AmberVael]

You can suppress it, if that would work. But I'm not going to give it up.
Catherine appears to be getting a bit more angry.

[Sophistemon]

"I do not need Catherine's blood; only a sample of the poison. I am sure that the kidnapper has some more in here somewhere. All we need to do is find it. And, if worse comes to worse, I can always Bend myself a sample to work with."

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath is visibly angry.
Then you can die damnit! I don't care. If you are choosing to keep your taint, then you are just as Tiger says. And he should kill you, after what your people did to his home.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence continues towards Tiger's room.

[Raistlin1040]

He finds Tiger's room. Tiger is inside, seemingly sleeping.

[Nevrmore]

Clarence thinks to himself...

Sleeping, eh? I don't buy it. Why would he be asleep right now?

He pulls his twisted black sword out and slowly inches towards Tiger.

[Raistlin1040]

He makes no move.

And I'd rather die than save a worthless fiend from a just execution.
Ekrath walks towards the locked door and with a single sword swipe, rips it open. He turns to Gent.
Maybe not. But she should feel sorry for it. Everyday I feel sorry for the pain my race, the drow, have inflicted on society.
He walks out.

Clarence very carefully keeps the door in his peripheral vision as he gets close enough to the Tiger to stab him. He looks at him.

He looks normal, if tired.

Goodnight, sweet prince. Clarence thinks before plunging the sword into where Tiger's heart should be.

The clang of sword on armor is heard and the warrior rises.
Nice try.
He lunges with his spear at the demon.

Thanks, I liked it. Clarence sidesteps the spear, trying to slice Tiger before hye can catch his balance.

[Sophistemon]

Gent stands. "I have had just about enough of this." There is a pulse of silver light in the palm of his left hand as a small vial of purple liquid appears. He holds it out to Catherine. "Drink this, please. It will counteract the poison that prevents you from leaving."

((If you want to do something to prevent this, Rai, do it now.))

What should we do, Gent?
Catherine looks to him, a desperate trust in her eyes.

Catherine hesitates, then reaches out to take it while her player allows Rai a chance.

((As Gent doesn't know what poison or what the ingrediants were, it would be near impossible to make a successful antidote.))

Tiger is a master spear warrior and skillfully dodges the attack. He counter thrusts.

((Gent knows pretty much everything, he just only allows himself access to certain bits of it. The potion would work.

Seriously, dude. Ekrath is gone and there are no enemies nearby. There's no reason for Catherine and the Gent to stay there like idiots.

The spear hits Clarence, but barely seems to penetrate him. The red goo that lightly coats his skin seems to have blunted the attack significantly, and the sizzling noise around the spear's tip is evidence that the red jelly is burning it.

((The red liquid reduces all damage by half and slowly burns the weapon.))

((Said plot doesn't have to involve Catherine and the Gent staying in the building though, no matter which outcome happens.

Catherine drinks the potion and waits, monitoring her SEER system.

[Sophistemon]

The potion works quickly, seeking out and destroying all traces of Tiger's strange poison.

Catherine sighs in relief.
Lets go.
She stands up.

[Sophistemon]

Gent leads her to the door. "What is our destination?"

[AmberVael]

Lets just go somewhere calm. I haven't gotten a chance to go somewhere like that.

[Sophistemon]

"I am almost positive that Employee Dinner Wednesday is over. We could retire to my restaurant and get some food put in you. You must be starving."

[AmberVael]

Catherine nods.
That sounds like a good plan.

[Sophistemon]

"Lead the way, Catherine."

Catherine smiles and walks off to the OmniShop, bypassing the streets thread just because.
