so after our HoTDQ TPK, I've decided to beef up my defenses a bit and my offensive firepower. Last character was a Assassin/Wiz, because I joined a party of 2 moon druids, a ranger, and a Tempest Cleric (and I didnt want to play a bard). 1 of the moon druids quit and so did the ranger, so we were a bit underpowered for HoTDQ.

Well, were continuing on. We will be joining in as a Caravan with Guards.

This time around I want to play some type of Blastlock, decided to go Cleric/Warlock. Were starting at 4th level, so I'm going 2/2. Chose Hill Dwarf for extra HP and ability to dump Str and still wear decent armor w/o move penalty

Rolled Stats: 16,15,14,13,12,8

Str 8
Dex 14
Con 14 (12 +2 racial)
Int 13
Wis 16 (15+1 racial)
Cha 16

Managed to get Breastplate armor so AC=18 with shield. Can sneak w/o disadvantage.
Planned on going N alignment, probably switch to CG or even CN (due to God-Patron Selection)

Went Cleric first, so class skills are Insight and Persuasion.

Chose Trickster Cleric, casting spells through an illusory duplicate seems so cool (L2 Channel Divinity ability). Domain SPells = Charm Person and Disguise Self.

Chose Archfey Warlock, plan to go to level 3 warlock for Tome lock. Invocations = Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast. Spells = Hex, Armor of Agathys, Faerie Fire

I took the variant Guild Artisan Background (Guild Merchant), figure it gives us a decent way into the caravan. I'll be the merchant and the other PC's can be my guards. Skills = insight and persuasion (have both already). So picked Stealth and Perception. Thinking of Changing to Stealth and Acrobatics...

Also thinking of Changing background to entertainer (performance and acrobatics), but with attempt to talk DM into changing skills to acrobatics and stealth. Remove music instruments from tool profs and equipment. Performance = acrobatics. Perform as a jester/fool only and maybe tales/stories etc...

I talked my DM into letting me choose Squelaichie ("Skell -lie") as both my Cleric Deity and ArchFey Patron. Squelaichie being the trickster god of the little people and the seelie court jester.

My dilemma is that I had originally thought of going Cleric of Waukeen (God of Trade) and was thinking that my clan's business interests were being hindered or had been attacked by the Cult of the Dragon as the were collecting their Horde. And Waukeen would not want a disruption in trade as well. My warlock levels come from being seen as a retributive force against the little peoples treatment by the Cult and my desire to punish them (and frankly needing more power to do so).

However...

NOW I'm looking at Squelaichie being both Deity and Patron, and having a troublesome time coming up with why my dwarf would have been a cleric of Squelaichie as a guild merchant to begin with. Hence the reason I'm thinking of changing background. I'm not too worried about getting into the caravan as an entertainer, the rest of the party could be gaurds I guess... But I'd be there as a travelling entertainer to entertain the caravan and earn a bit here and there when they stop for the night and stuff...

What I'm wondering is... Is there any other Deity - Patron's that would work as a single entity. I'm not overly tied to being Trickster Cleric -ArchFey Warlock. I deffinately want to stay blast lock. And I am willing to switch races, but I kind of like the dwarf cleric-lock idea...

Any thoughts on entities that would function as both - Cleric Deity and Lock Patron?

Personally I'd like a Celestial Pact (the opposite of a Fiend Pact) ... but basically, any god works for your idea? Or you and your DM could design a new deity for it. Actually, it all depends on what deities exist in your world. Or pick any Archfey you can come up with, and have your DM decide that it's a minor god. And there you have it.

I'd say depends on how open your DM is to homebrew. In an upcoming game my Bladelock's patron is basically Bahamut, using a custom made pact that is a combination of the dragon sorcerer, tempest cleric, and fiend patron.

If your DM is letting you let them be the same person already, then that is homebrew really, and he might let you write up a new Patron altogether, or a new deity.

You could probably find some demon lord that would work for both. Also, Init's suggestion for an archfey is a good one.

We're in HoTDQ, so using Forgotten Realms Pantheon...

If there was a Celestial Pantheon, that would probably work much better... but if Celestial = Higher Plane = Good aligned, Fiend = Lower Plane = Evil Aligned, what would the Neutral Gods be? pick and choose? Most of the Trickster Dieties are Evil or Neutral... so if staying away from Evil, what would the go to be?

Beshaba CE - Goddess of Misfortune
Cyric CE - God of Lies
Leira CN - Goddess of Illusion
Mask CN - God of Theives
Shar NE - Goddess of darkness and loss
Tymora CG - Goddess of Good Fortune
Waukeen N - Goddess of Trade

Caoimhin (pronounced "koo-ev-inn," meaning "kindly") is the killmoulis deity of food and shy friendship. His symbol is a tiny bowl and pin. Caoimhin is a large-nosed, mouthless brownielike creature only a foot in height. He wears gossamer armor covered in thick woolen rags to help him keep warm. He grumbles nervously from time to time. Caoimhin dwells in the Seelie Court realm.

Damh (pronounced "dav," meaning "horned beast"[1]:118) is the fey deity of dance, song, and celebrations. His symbol is flutes, pipes, and a drum. Damh appears as a male korred with long, tawny-auburn hair tied into braids. He carries a set of pipes, a wooden flute, and a harp. A physically powerful god, he may ambush hostile invaders into fairy lands. He is a god of the Inner Circle of the Seelie Court, Damh is the son of Titania and Oberon. Damh's main worshipers are korreds, satyrs, and atomies. According to Monster Mythology, Titania worries so much about the various sylvan races that Damh felt compelled to take over some of her responsibilities and, therefore, lighten her load.

Eachthighern (pronounced "ek-tee-arn," meaning "lord of horses") is the unicorn deity of Healing, Loyalty, and Protection. He is also the god of pegasi. His symbol is a unicorn horn. Eachthighern is depicted as a winged unicorn with a white coat and slight gray dappling on his belly. There is a gray fringe on his mane and beard. Eachthighern is a member of the Seelie Court. Myths differ on his parentage, but most often he is regarded as a son of the ki-rin god Koriel. Sometimes he is said to be the offspring of a humanoid trickster god, such as Erevan Ilesere, who took on female form in order to conceive and give birth to Eachthighern.

Emmantiensien (Emm-ann-tee-enz-ee-an) is the god of treants, trees, and deep and hidden magic. His name is a contraction of a Treant word meaning "one who is slow to rouse but is great in might when stirred to action." His symbol is a pair of acorns.Emmantiensien appears as a vast treant with well-sheened bark, his roots curled around a magic crystal fashioned by some unnamed and unknown deity. With this crystal, Emmantiensien can call forth power which no other sylvan deity can employ, not even Queen Titania. Emmantiensien is closely allied with Rillifane Rallathil and Corellon Larethian. Emmantiensien is revered by treants

Fionnghuala is the deity of swanmays, communications, and sorority. Her symbol is a white feather. Fionnghuala is a small, very slender human woman with red hair and green eyes. She wears white feathered patches on her shoulders and on the crown of her head, and gossomer armor. She may also appear as a giant swan. Fionnghuala is revered by swanmays, a secretive organization of female human rangers with the ability to transform into swans. They continue to worship the deities who were their patrons before their transformation as well. Fionnghuala has no clerics.

Nathair Sgiathach is the fey deity of mischief and pranks. His symbol is a smile. Nathair Sgiathach appears as a tiny, 2-foot-long (0.61 m), thin-bodied dragon with a prehensile tail, gossamer butterfly wings, and a huge smile. Nathair Sgiathach is an offspring of the draconic deity Io, and a member of the Seelie Court. Another draconic deity, Hlal, is also portrayed as a faerie dragon, and the two may be one and the same. Nathair Sgiathach is revered by pseudodragons and faerie dragons alike, as well as sprites, pixies, and grigs.

Oberon is the fey deity of nature, wild places, and animals. His symbol is a white stag. Oberon appears as a male fairy of perhaps unusual size (4' 6") with no wings, and strongly muscled by fey standards. His cloak is made of green leaves stitched into brown leather. Oberon is the consort of Titania and a member of her Seelie Court[citation needed]. He is the father of Damh and Verenestra. Eachthighern allows Oberon to ride him. He is called King Oberon, but this is an honorific due to his marriage to Queen Titania; he has little political authority among the Seelie Court. Oberon is allied with Corellon Larethian and Sehanine Moonbow. Oberon's home is the wandering Seelie Court, but he is happy to roam the Beastlands and Arborea hunting stags and the like. Oberon is revered by all nonevil fey, who pray to him for protection.

Skerrit is the deity worshipped by the centaur race. Skerrit is also known as the "Forester." His symbol is an oak growing from an acorn. Skerrit may appear as any creature of the forest. Sometimes his spirit will temporarily possess various plants and animals in order to do his will. In his centaur form, Skerrit wields a bow and a spear. When he is in the forest, the branches and leaves of the trees move to impede his foes' attacks. Skerrit is a member of Titania's Seelie Court. He is part of the Outer Circle of the Seelie Court. Skerrit's Glade is located on the Outer Plane of the Beastlands, near Ehlonna's Grove of the Unicorns. Though he is probably the best known member of Titania's Seelie Court, he prefers to maintain his own realm separately. Skerrit is worshipped mainly by centaurs and satyrs, and by those sylvan elves who are more neutral in alignment.

James M. Ward created Skerrit for Deities and Demigods (1980).[3] Skerrit was detailed in the book Monster Mythology (1992), including details about his priesthood.[1] His role in the cosmology of the Planescape campaign setting was described in On Hallowed Ground (1996).[2] Skerrit is described as one of the good deities that celestials can serve in the supplement Warriors of Heaven (1999).[4] Skerrit was described briefly in Defenders of the Faith (2000).[5] His priesthood is detailed for 3rd edition in Complete Divine (2004)

Squelaiche is the leprechaun deity of trickery and illusions. His symbol is a clover leaf or a pointed red hat. Squelaiche appears as a handsome male leprechaun, two feet in height, with a fine silk cloak and a pointed red cap. As the Seelie Court's Court Jester, Squelaiche may speak impudently even to Queen Titania. He is on especially good terms with fellow tricksters Nathair Sgiathach and Erevan Ilesere. Squelaiche is believed to have been born from a magical plant on the plane of Arborea, an example of a deity from the natural world becoming adopted into the fey world. Squelaiche is worshipped by leprechauns and other tiny fey creatures. Squelaiche’s role has been complicated by Dragon #263, with the Jester of the Fairy Court being called Puck or Robin Goodfellow, who is described as resembling a cross between a brownie and a goblin.[7] A version of Robin Goodfellow also appeared in the Mystara supplement Tall Tales of the Wee Folk, where he is a sprite who often takes human form

Titania is the fey deity of Faerie folk and Realms, Friendship, and Magic. Her symbol is a white diamond with a blue star glowing in its center, the antithesis of the black diamond symbol of her sister, the Queen of Air and Darkness. Titania is described in Monster Mythology as a beautiful female faerie, only three and a half feet in height, with gossamer wings, pale skin, a perfect complexion and cheek bone structure, and penetrating blue eyes, carrying a diamond-tipped wand.[1]

Titania is the leader of the Seelie Court, a large confederation of gods, which consists of her consort Oberon, their children Damh and Verenestra, as well as the following gods: Caoimhin, Eachthighern, Emmantiensien, Fionnghuala, Nathair Sgiathach, Skerrit, and Squelaiche. The Seelie Court stands united in opposition to the Queen of Air and Darkness, and is allied with the Seldarine. Titania has some intimate connection with the hag goddess Cegilune, her sister or other half. It is believed that if either Cegilune or Titania were to be destroyed, both would die. Titania is revered by all non-evil faeries, but brownies, bookas, pixies, and sprites worship her as their special patron. Dragon #155 presented a different faerie queen, the greater goddess Rhiannon.[9] In Dragon #263, a non-divine Queen Titania was presented, this version a lawful neutral, 20th level druid who carries a silver rod with which she can call up storms.[7] Another non-divine Queen Titania was created for the world of Mystara in Tall Tales of the Wee Folk, where she appeared as a 25th level warrior sidhe of neutral alignment.[8] In the latter two versions she is human-sized, and her attendants Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, and Mustardseed, and her young pet human changeling boy, are all mentioned.

Verenestra is the fey deity of female faeries, charm, and beauty. Her symbol is a filigree-edged silver mirror. Verenestra chooses to appear as any demure, slim female faerie of unearthly, fey beauty. She is always barefooted, wearing only gossamer garments the size of handkerchiefs to provide her with a semblance of modesty. She stands four and a half feet in height. Verenestra is the daughter of Titania and one of the Inner Circle of the Seelie Court. Verenestra is revered primarily by dryads, nymphs, and sylphs

DM wanted us to stay away from Evil characters otherwise I might just go Cyric as EvilDeity and a Fiend Patron...

currently considering Mask N - God of Thieves, and Fiend Patron???

But he's supposed to be dead?

Shar could work... I supposed but again she's evil...

If by N you mean Nathair the Archfey, I think that's a solid pairing would also work with Leira. Though I'd say chain pact (pseudo dragons and fairy dragons being part of his schtick).

I think either Caoimhin or Damh could pair up well with Tymora.

Of course the question is whether Nathair would want me involved to stop the Cult of the Dragon...

and by N, I meant Mask is Neutral (as listed in PHB), historically he's been evil in D&D but not this go around (if he's still alive)

I suppose I could go Waukeen, and say that some Fiend helped her escape Lord Grazz't in the Abyss. And that Fiend now serves Waukeen or is on friendly enough terms that I could go Fiend and that random Demon now is providing me with Pact magic... Who this demon is and why he's helping could even be a greater mystery...

.

Your patron could be some greater power posing as Mask, whether or not is actually IS Mask. There are various powers that be which would like to capitalize on Mask's scattered followers, and you could very well be one of those that have attached themselves to this entity, thinking it the reborn form of Mask. This also lets your DM pick a creature that would have an interest in sending you against the cult of the dragon (potentially because it sees them as a rival?).

So, check my sig, I built a Celestial-themed Warlock patron that i'm playing in my current game. Strong, but not OP, and he's beholden to a Named Solar. You could easily fluff this as having been a Cleric of Tyr, who pledged himself to one of his god's powerful servants following Tyr's death. Requires a slight bit of reflavoring for the warlock (My DM agreed to let me sub Radiant for Necrotic damage on some of the Warlock abilities), but otherwise works out quite well.

If going celestial lock, I'd probably not go dwarf or cleric...

Maybe Lightfoot Halfling Celestial Warlock... Definately like it. Will have to run by the DM for this campaign, since its pretty much the opposite of Fiend he'll probably be ok with it.

AND since I am planning on staying in Medium armor with a shield, I'll probably drop dwarf anyways and go Lightfoot Halfling anyways... feels like a better trickster, If I have to stay Cleric/Lock... feels more like the wee folk that way... Go Sqellaichie for both... basically play him as a Jester/Entertainer.... Just would need a reason to be against the Cult. Maybe work as a Harper Agent???

But I plan to run the Celestial Lock by him first... If so, then I'll just play that straight as Halfling lock! Missing out on Invoke Duplicity might be rough tho...

Celestial Patron does two things for the build which are really nice:

1. Medium armor, Shields, and the Defensive Fighting style, which also works with armor of shadows. At the least, you're looking at an AC of 15 before Dex modifiers.
2. at 6th, bonus Damage equal to charisma on all Radiant spells. if you get to Warlock 6/Cleric 8, you're adding wisdom AND Charisma to any radiant Cantrip (of which there's another good one here: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?392676-Few-more-Cantrips&highlight=cantrip)

Basically I'm gonna show back up with 2 characters... that I'd be OK to play either of.

1. Lightfoot Halfling L2 Cleric of Squelaiche and L2 Archfey (Squelaiche) Warlock, with Entertainer background, who travels around as a Jester working as an Agent of the Harpers???

2. Lightfoot Halfling L4 Celestial Warlock, with Criminal Variant Spy background working as an Agent of the Harpers???

with character 1, I'll be a traveling fool who is traveling from Baldur's Gate to Waterdeep in the company of the caravan to make some money on the way.

With character 2, I'll probably be posing as a merchant of somekind and can have the other PC's as my guards.

Either way I'll be happy. Just have to see what the DM wants as far as hooks and if he allows the Celestial Warlock or not.

I'd call or email him ahead of time, rather than show up with them myself.
