Shades

The Shade template, described in the 3.0 FRCS and the 3.5 Races of Faerun, describes it as a template to be added to a creature. However, in stat blocks of sample Shades, their races is always "Shade" not "Elf (shade)" or "Human (shade)" as one would expect in templates.

So are the bonuses of a Shade added to the original races benefits, or does it replacethem?

They are added. Templates typically add bonuses, and if they replace them it's called out (as with the dragonborn template). Note that the sample shade in FRCS has one extra feat in his statblock, because his base race is human.

It is a shade. It is also whatever it was before except where otherwise stated.
