I recently finished a project that I've been working on for a while now, and I wanted to share it with the Playground. It's an Excel database of nearly all 3.0 and 3.5 monsters, from the default campaign setting, Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dragonlance, Kingdoms of Kalamar, Dragon Magazine, and Web content. I think it should be okay to post here, since it doesn't contain enough information to actually use any of the creatures in play without also owning the book (for instance, it lists what special attacks they have, but doesn't say what they do, save DCs, etc.) It's available for download here (https://app.box.com/MonsterCompendium). A version without the graphs (much smaller file size) is available here (https://app.box.com/s/uc33rxfghsslw9l4xqyrgfiz8mltbl34). (If anyone knows a better way to host this let me know please.)

If this isn't okay, if the amount of information contained is considered infringment on the copyrights or what-have-you, please, Mods, I invite the thread's deletion. Otherwise, please let me know if there are any errors, incompleteness (aside from the omissions noted inside the DB), or questions you have about the project!

So far, looks like you did a nice job. Thanks for all your work.

So I've realized that the file preview the site generates makes it look, just, horrendous. I promise the actual file is way better. Also includes templates, and customizable bar graphs representing the relative frequency of occurence of various stat values.

I actually ended up saving a version without all the graphs because while they are sometimes nice, I don't always want all that memory dedicated to those graphs when I'm using this.

Oh, that makes sense. Do you think I should upload a second version that doesn't have all the graphs?

Super useful utility. I keep it on my desktop now and trawl it for monsters (put in weird sorting parameters, etc.) when I'm drawing a blank on encounters.

It would have been handy to have each ability labeled (Ex), (Su) and the like. I was looking for a good enemy with extraordinary abilities, and can't find a good list of what abilities even ARE (Ex) anywhere.

Probably too late. But otherwise, this is a pretty sweet table. Huge. But useful.

Oh! That would've been handy. Well, I'm planning to go back over it at some point and add in keywords at some point (I'd love to be able to sort spider-like creatures, for instance, or things with an antimagic theme). when I do I think I'll add keywords for "has great Ex ability", for instance (but with a catchier name lol). Not exactly the same thing, but I think it would serve a similar purpose.
The question is, should I make keywording this database my next project? Or move onto making a similar index but for spells? I intend to do that at some point, and probably a few others like this.

If you decide to do spells, the same group that made heroforge have a massive spell book started that might be useful.

Awesome! Do you know what the name of that group is? I looked up heroforge and it didn't give me any information like that.

Heroforge has been slightly updated since 2015 and can be found here HeroForge Anew (https://github.com/Heliomance/HeroForge-Anew)

the Spells list that was mentioned is called Spellforge and it needs alot of work (there's maybe a one-sixth of the books listed that are fully implemented, maybe two-sixths that are partially implemented, and the rest that are just listed) can be found here SpellForge Anew (https://github.com/torrasque666/Spellforge-Anew)
