When do Paladins get to cast a spell? I notice at 4/5 it says 0 1st level spells, so does that mean I have to wait until level 6, or did I mess up on reading somewhere?

You can start casting at 4th if your wis mod is high enough to net you bonus spells, otherwise you have to wait till 6th.

The 0 means you only get a spell if you have a bonus spell from a high score in the classes casting stat., wisdom in this case.

Yes. You get a bonus 1st level spell. You will also gain bonus 2nd and 3rd level spells when you can cast those as well. The table with the appropriate information can be found here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/theBasics.htm#abilityModifiers).

Edit: Ninja'd twice in row in the same thread. Lol

And in general, if your spellcasting mod is +n, then you have at least one bonus slot of every level up to and including n. Plus possibly a few more at the lower levels, if you have a really high mod, but that's when you just refer to the tables.

...I never noticed that. Thanks, Chronos-you've just simplified bonus spell slots for me.

There's actually a really simple pattern for bonus spells, no matter how high your modifier is. Just count down from a spell level equal to your modifier, even if it's higher than +9, starting with 1 four times, then 2 four times, and so on. For example, if your modifier is +10, then for 10th to 7th level spells you have 1 bonus spell, 6th to 3rd you have 2, and for 1st and 2nd level spells you have three.

Hmm, I'm not sure if that's really a clear explanation. Trying to put it more clearly, if x=your modifier, then for a spell level from x to x-3, you have 1 bonus spell. For spell level x-4 to x-7, you have 2, for level x-8 to x-11, you have 3, and so on.
