... to teach them how to play for the very first time? My little sis and her husband are trying to play for the first time, and are having trouble figuring it out. Is there a favorite place they could read a "how to" for newbs?

What kind of game are they wanting to play? Serious acting/role play? Beer and Pretzels play? Hack n Slash board games?

I think just the first few chapters of the 5e book and then jump in with your own group. Learn by doing is my favorite way with most new players.

The best way to learn is to play a game with some that already know how. Of course this is easier said than done.

My recommendation is look online and see if you have a gaming store near to you. Many gaming shops have game themed nights and D&D may be one of them. If they do it could be a simple matter of going to that night and joining a game. Some even have beginner nights just for you.

Heck in Lakewood Ohio we have a bar that does starter D&D!

Another nice thing is that it can find you more players, DMs, social circles, and can help you find a nice place to get new stuff.

Watching a podcast like some of the ones on the wizards site might be a good idea. At least to the extent on knowing how to play, if not the rules.

Secondly, is playing a skype game with them an option?
