Map of Isger (http://s15.postimg.org/ne27sa5vf/Map_RHo_D_Isger.jpg)

The crossing from Andoran into Isger was signified by a manned watchtower, and the reinforced gravel road giving way to dirt path. On the Isgerian side, the path continued on, somewhat less well kept, with crumbling, unmanned watchtowers every few leagues, standing guard as monuments of a bygone age. That was nearly two weeks ago, now.

While the fact that the road is not completely overgrown seems to be evidence that someone uses it at least semi-regularly, you haven't seen anyone on the Isger side yet. No ships on the river, no trade caravans, or even peasants with their carts.

For a good while, the path slung itself alongside the rive Andal, but it veered off a day, and entered a stretch of forest, periodically dotted with small clearings, a terrain that promises to stretch on 'till you make it to Drellin's Ferry.

Last night, your party made camp besides one of those derilect watchtowers, and saw the sun set over the red peaks of the Aspodell mountains.

If your maps and memory serve, you should make Drellin's Ferry by nightfall. Right now, the trees are pressing in on you, though, their crowns obscuring the grey skies above.

The afternoon sun beats down on you. Drellin's ferry now lies only a few miles ahead, you think. The settlement is hard on the borders of Chitterwood, and should prove the best staging point for your exploration of the forest, in your search for Vraath Keep.

The road crests a small rise and descents into a dusty grove in a large, shallow dell. A crumbling abandoned farmhouse, partially visible through the trees, stands on one side of the road. You've passed through a dozen spots like this today, but can't shake the feeling that there's something wrong. Most of you pass it off as having been on the road for too long, but Noman glimpses the the glint of mail in the greens on the side of the road. Before he can call out in warning, the half a dozen warriors let loose their arrows.

They're tall and hairy, and look like they'd be fierce to tangle with. They're clad in scale armor, some of it covered with crude camouflage, with swords and wooden shields ready to be drawn.

The battlemap is here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HjUVZulwIGOBw-H4GV-G2DJ2t8ZJh34E9UgMVI_leTg/edit?usp=sharing); I rolled perception and initiative for you in there. When you move, please state which coordinate you end up in.

Noman
AC 18 HP28

Walking under the glaring sun, mile after mile, has done nothing to improve Noman's abrasive character. He kept grumbling for hours at a time, mostly at a low voice. His diatribe against the sun, the sky and Sarenrae at around midday - delivered on top of a boulder, with finger shaking at the sky- was rather the exception.

Fortunately, Thurak was rather used to this behavior and impervious to it. Good thing too, because Noman could have become a bloody pulp by now. Pausing only to stroke Jasper now and then, Noman kept walking.

It was perhaps that grumbling that saved him. Catching a glint of mail, Noman was just about to call when arrows started flying. His voice caught in his throat as his hands, rather more quick that his brain, were already putting an arrow on the bow. The whole world stopped for Noman, as his focused on the nearest bugbear. His ki released just as the arrow flew, Noman is at last at peace.

Noman's arrow finds its mark in a hobgoblin shoulder, eliciting a growl from the warrior. They respond by peppering the group with more arrows. Having shot their bows, they cast them aside entirely, drawing their shields instead, in anticipation of the group going on the offensive. There are some grunts and surprised glances - it seems they expected you to have died from that salvo. Still, they fall into long-practised aggresive stances.

His first arrow disappears in the bushes. The second hammers right through the warrior's scale mail, and impales the hobgoblin to the tree behind him. It slumps over, seemingly out for the count. The third arrow goes wide, however.

More combatants join the skirmish. Two large hounds, with a menacing resonance to their bays. They are thin, wolf-like creatures, with black fur, white claws, and fiery red eyes. One of them comes storming down the road, having been concealed behind a curve in the road, the other flies out from a gap in the stonework of the derelect farmhouse, and legs it through the cluster of trees, ending its advance in a long jump down from the edge.

Mordekai gets to make two attacks of opportunity - he has combat reflexes, and can do so while flat-footed.

Jasper screeches in pain, lurching to the side as he is hit by multiple arrows. Vafri, realizing that Jasper's size would make maneuvering difficult, leaps off his friend's back, shouting to the griffon to defend himself. Lifting up his holy symbol in his buckler hand, the dwarf calls out to the dwarven goddess Bolka, and blesses the party quickly.

We walked more today. There was a tower. It was small. Now there are trees. I am tired of walking. ~ Thurak the Adventurer, Starday, 6th Sarenith

We walked more today. There are still trees. There was a tower. It had ankhegs. One bit my leg. I took a leg for myself. Ankheg leg does not taste good. I will let Jasper have it. My leg hurts. I am tired of walking. ~ Thurak the Exploriditioner, Moonday, 8th Sarenith

Thurak stows his travelogue with an annoyed grunt when it becomes clear that Noman's griping isn't going away any time soon today. The little man is a worthy traveling companion, but his incessant complaining does tend to get in the way of Thurak writing his masterpiece. Hopefully there will be time later to write down the details of the landscape they've passed already today. It would be a shame if the librarians didn't know all the details of what Thurak is going through.

Lost in his thoughts (such as they are) as he is, Thurak doesn't even notice the ambush until the first arrow thuds into a shoulder. Still, if there's one thing he's used to by now, it's being ambushed. He doesn't so much as flinch as the second arrow finds its mark deep in a bicep, instead snapping off both shafts and reaching into a fold of his armor for one of his many spell components. When his fingers find the dried spider husk he hurls it out across the ravine, shouting the orcish curse of spiders as it flies. The husk explodes a moment later into an enormous spread of sticky threads, winding their ways through the trees and across the parched earth.

Satisfied with his work, Thurak hefts his massive axe and moves toward the few unhindered foes, snarling menacingly.Cast web centered on G/H-11/12. For most of the day, Mordekai had trudged along with the rest of the group, weathering the path in front of the others, since he had been suspicious of any possible attacks along the road, something he'd learned over time from experiences in the army. The roads in the mountains could be treacherous at best, hazardous at worst, and it prompted Mordekai to keep an eye open at all times.

Of course, the tiring nature of the hike was beginning to get to him after a while, since he was only half around while walking, his mind being split between some fantasy land, and the road, which was probably how he did not notice the ambush that the hobgoblins had prepared for them. Within seconds of the first arrow striking, his mind had come back to reality in it's entirety, however, he was still sluggish in his response time, and was unable to strike first.

When he finally got his act together, his comrades had already acted, and managed to impede the prowess of some of the hobgoblins threatening him. He did not waste time in reaching out with both his mind and body, calling his weaponry from the realm in which it was stored, and brought it out, seemingly out of thin air.

Now with his armaments in hand, he struck out against one of the hounds that were next to him, and dared to threaten him.

The breastplate-clad woman clearly reacts to the challenge, clanging her blades together and growling at the archer. Her body is coiled as if ready to jump at Noman.

You hear the pounding of multiple pairs of boots on the other side of the webbing, and a guttural half out of breath voice.

He raises his axe in an overhand grip, as if to strike her down across the thirty-odd feet between them, then his entire body abruptly flickers. The woman snarls in anger as her prey runs away from her. For a moment, she seems unable to decide what to do as she goes on the defensive - the arrow in her shoulder doesn't help matters - but then she breaks off the shaft, and lunges for Noman, relying on her preternatural reflexes to keep her alive. There's a cruel glint to her eyes - it's personal now, and she enjoys the seeing him run away in terror. Thus far, the hobgonlins have seemed humanoid, if brutish. But the growl she emits while running after him is animalistic. For all her posturing, she is less graceful in her pursuit, and clearly favores the arm that has no arrow lodged in it.

"That's right boys! Cut Them Down! FOR KULKOR ZHUL!" The ambushers growl and bang on their shields in response. The voice is fairly close to Mordekai this time around.

Mordekai's Stormglaive crakles as it impacts on the chest of a hobgoblin, who collapses, twitching. It doesn't get up again.

Mordekai and Thurak are winning their side of the skirmish, and the remaining hobgoblin is quite aware of its predicament, as it simply cowers behind its shield, holding out for help to arrive, casting surreptious glances back into the bushes behind him, while trying not to take his eyes off the glaive and axe coming at him. Reinforcements aren't far away now, they're going to be there in seconds.

Vafri and Jasper's part of the battle is going more poorly, and the additional hobgoblins will be on them in seconds. The ambushers rush past them to make room for reinforcement, and the dwarf and griffon take the opportunity to swing their mace and beak, respectively.

"You'll get yours, orc, just you wait!"

Her bloody blades flash in the sunlight as she stabs them at Noman. The archer desperately manages to fend her blades off, escaping death for the moment.

Meanwhile, the chanting from the invisible assailant is no longer pausing, but is persistently working up to a crescendo - you're able to locate the caster by his voice.

With the hobgoblin beginning to chant his long chant, Mordekai was able to figure out his position, despite not actually facing him. The voice seemed to echo inside his head, and he was able to figure out his exact position, but he found himself at a dilemma. If he were to strike at the cleric, who seemed to be one of their main concerns, he'd be leaving himself open to the other fool next to him.

Mordekai sucked in some air, and made a brash decision, by sliding backwards, and striking at the cleric's legs, attempting to cut off his spells from helping their enemy even more.

The Dwarf quickly summons the power of his goddess, swiftly healing himself before he hastily steps to the side and away from the hobgoblins gathering about him before leaping astride Jasper in as dignified a manner as he could manage, considering the circumstances. Mordekai angrily grunted as he realized that the chanting bugger had managed to continue casting his spell, and made his efforts useless. Things weren't looking too great, as the charge on his armor seemed to be getting close to zero, at which point, things would go even further south faster than one could say "Garund".

He ignored the new challenger for the moment, noticing that his ally required help, and things were even worse for him. Charging in blindly didn't seem wise, but his friend needed the help. He tried to see if he could somehow assist him without blocking his way, but that didn't seem to be happening. He'd have to take out the new fellow in front of himself first, before he could do something without terrible risk to himself.

However, when Vafri managed to extract himself from the situation, Mordekai took a small breath of relief from underneath his helmet. He slid backwards, and struck forth at the new challenger, seeing that continued combat against these sods was a terrible idea.
