If you can treat all spell(in any list) in a single book as your known (and only), witch book would you choose?
If your only get only sor/wiz one?
(Core and spell compendium are baned for this...)

Damn, was gonna say Spell Compendium lol Hmmm, this is actually kinda hard, Dragon Magic has some really good stuff all around so that may make it. Several of the Completes make the list too, PHB 2 has some fun stuff. Honestly itd be pretty hard being just limited to the Sorc/Wiz list, however if all spells in the book are available it gets easier.

Honestly id go with Players Guide to the Sovereign Lands (the KoK players guide) and not because there are several broken spells in there, its because its the only book i know of where id have a good solid generalist list.

Well, no PH or SC make it tough. And when things get tough, the tough get CELERITY.

Players Handbook 2.

As far as I know,/core is just PH, DMG, MM.

The original 3. Right?

Frostburn is worth considering, there are lots of solid spells of many varieties there. Shivering Touch, the Snowsight combo, Boreal Wind, Frostfell, Ice Assassin (if you are cheesy enough), Blizzard, Conjure Ice Beast (they aren't too great but a summon is a summon, and in this variant there are not too many summons to be had), Fimbulwinter, Flesh to Ice, even Ice Darts if you are looking for a non-horrible single target damage spell.

Overall there is a lot of variety in effects, a lot of strong spells, and it is fairly thematic and synergistic with itself. Its main weakness is no action economy shenanigans (unless you count Ice Assassin) or polymorphing, and really the best polymorphing is locked in core anyways. For action economy Complete Mage and Dragon Magic are a little shallow, though PHB2 is a strong pick as has been said (it doesn't really have the large variety of strong spells that Frostburn does though)

I'd pick Frostburn. Make an Ice Assassin of the universe. Eschew Material Components ftw!

Did I spell that right? Is this even the right edition?

Either FC to nab DCFS (extra spell-ing any TO-complete spells) or self-contained books like Oriental Adventures.

since ToB doesn't have any sor/wiz spells in it, It doesn't really matter.

If sanctified spells are considered sor/wiz, I would pick BoED.

BoVD. Mindrape solves all the problems, after all, and I suspect that there are enough evildarkbad versions of regular spells in there to tide a caster over.

Oh, yeah BoVD for sure, especially if the corrupt spells are applied.

Got ourselves a finger-lickin' good dragon killer in those.

Are we limited to 3.5, or is 3.0 on the table?

Complete Arcane if we're focused on Wizzies.

Epic Level Handbook.
Epic spells are not in any list, and therefore do not satisfy the original premise. The only spell from a list in the ELH is Genesis, which, while not bad in and of itself, has very limited usefulness if you cannot planar travel.

I actually own that book....I did not purchase it. I SWEAR! A friend passed away and it was bequeathed to me along with all of his other game books. I didn't have the heart to get rid of it.

As for my book of choice...I like the element style books....either Frostburn or Sandstorm

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It's got tons of useful wizard spells in it.

Races of Eberron because Greater Humanoid Essence lets Constructs have templates, mind affecting spells, living affecting spells nice things too.

I like the spells in Magic of Incarnum. Races of the Dragon has some nice Power Word spells. Forgotten Realms Players Guide has a few interesting ones as well.

If I had to pick it would probably be Magic of Incarnum though.

How about Deities and Demigods? It has a ton of domains in it with some good spells from Core. Or Complete Divine, similar story.

No. Good luck finding a spell list in that though.

So I'd get my pick of any one book? Hmm...

Complete Arcane. Ignore the spell section. What I'm after is the sample characters in the PrC section. Most of those have listings of spells know and in book. With almost 20 PrCs (and thus almost 20 sample spell lists) I should be able to cobble together enough of the staple core spells.

If you would prefer a less cheesy answer, probably the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide.

I'm having trouble finding Warmage spells above 5th level that fit this criteria. Complete Arcane at least has some usable spells up to fifth level, but I can't find spells above 5th level. Is level 10 considered epic for them? Every spell from now on is a metamagiced spell?

People give it alot of crap, but some of the templates in it are pretty good IMO. Especially with buy-off. Some of the pictures are just horrifying though.

Because if I wanted bad photo erotica, I'd get a sci-fi porno made by kids in college in the nineties.

Seriously, it's horrible.

Oriental Adventures/Complete Arcane for Giant Size or Decapitating Scarf or Transcend Mortality. I like Wu Jen spells...
Maybe Serpent Kingdoms for Venomfire but that's not a Sorc/Wiz spell I don't think.

Edit: Misunderstood the OP. I'm changing my answer to definitely Oriental Adventures/Complete Arcane because Wu Jen spells are rad and honestly Wu Jen have less to choose from than Wiz/Sorcs so I don't feel bad missing out on choices from every splatbook ever.

For low levels I would pick Sandstorm. It has a lot of BC spells in there, but in the upper levels they trail off.
