I need a race that fulfills the following criteria:

Would leave behind ancient ruins.
Would have said ruins contain a ton of metal.
Would mummify their dead rulers.
Would bury their important dead on funeral ships.
Doesn't primarily live underground.
Is at least as physically strong as an elf.

Sahuagin don't have access to metalworking and can do most of that stuff. At least as physically strong as an elf is really setting the bar low.

These are all cultural and so could be applied to almost any race.

This could also be cultural, but merely rules out a handful of races.

So no size = small etc.

Since racial fluff is mutable the race can be almost anything which exists in the setting, assuming that you mutate the race to match.
