Converting 2nd and 3.5th Edition Monsters to 5th Edition

Hey Everyone, Im currently running a Dark Sun campaign which has been converted to 5th from 3.5. There is still the matter of the monsters - Most of the monsters in the Monster Manual don't exist on Athas, and I would like to use the ones from the Terrors of the Desert, Terrors Beyond Tyr and the Terrors of Athas sourcebooks.

Is there a rule of thumb to converting monsters to 5th edition?

AFB so it's hard for me to spring numbers off the top of my head, but you can look at examples of other stuff converted.

Death Dogs
Kua-Toa

and the like who where in 2nd. I know the death dog was in 3.5 but it was LAME compared to it's 2e counterpart.

DMG starting on pg 273 has the "how to create a monster" section, complete with a chart on pg 274 with ballpark numbers for your baddie. So it would mostly be a matter of scaling the creatures up or down to match that.
