Okay, so in the next campaign I take part in, I shall be a conjurer/wild mage.

I'm currently trying to research how to superspecialize, but that's neither here nor there.

I want to know what you all think of wild mages. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

I have an unholy love of wild mages and determining things by rolling randomly.

Give me a wand of wonder, and I am a happy, happy girl.

Wild Mages are basically walking rods of wonder. If you don't mind leaving a lot to chance, then they're OK. I like the flavor, anyway, even if their abilities aren't as über as some other PrCs in CA. *cough*IotSFV*cough*

I was in a 2nd edition campaign where there was the wild mage and me, the lawful evil conjourer specialist. And a lot of non-caster fodder, but we never called them that to their faces. We were exploring a dungeon and there was a passage which only non-armoured people could get down. So me, him and the thief go down there, while everyone else goes round the long way. The three of us find a chest, which the thief determines is trapped. I'm telling everyone to wait, so the wild mage immediately does the opposite to what I say, and opens the chest. BANG fire trap the two of them into negative HP while I am barely conscious. I decide to open the now untrapped chest, take out the treasure within (2 cool ioun stones!) and while I am rummaging around I 'accidentaly' kneel on the wild mage's throat, The rest of the party, having heard the explosion, rush in, and I direct them to save the thief.

The only time I have ever killed a fellow PC

Conjurer/wild mage, eh? I encourage you to take a level of alienist, too; as a summoner, you probably qualify anyway. Fun.

I like the wild mage class; it adds things without adding too much (Initiate of the Unseen Veil), and the abilities are fun. Randomized caster level, better with Rods of Wonder... at high levels, the ability to produce completely random magical effects. Fun times.

Fun to play, too, as long as you don't follow the above poster's example- chaotic does not necessarily mean insane, and insane doesn't always mean suicidal.

That's true, it could mean homicidal.

My DM in a 3rd edition game gave us some sort of 2e wand of wild magic, which we were careful not to use very often. I know we used it a couple times but I forget what it did
