Hi everyone. I got a question on an animal I can summon with my Druid.

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/direWolf.htm

It is saying that the Dire Wolf can make a trip action if it hits with a Bite attack. I'm fine with this part.

Where I'm a bit confused is about the following statement : (+ 11 Modifier check).

So, the Dire Wolf has a Grapple check of + 15 and the modifier check for the trip is + 11.

My question about this is rather simple, is the bonus check + 11 or + 26 (by adding the base grapple check). I'm confuse, please help me out.

Thanks in advance, Gardakan.

Grapple doesn't affect Trip.

Trip is just a strength check modified by size.

I think you've got some rules wrong. You don't add any grapple modifiers to your trip checks.

So the trip bonus is simply +11

What the others said. Grapple and Trip are two completely different mechanics.

Trip: +7 (Str) +4 (size) = +11
Grapple: +7 (Str) +4 (size) +4 (BAB) = +15

Grapple checks are Strength+BAB+Special Size Modifier
Trip checks are just Strength+Special Size Modifier

Grapple checks are Strength+BAB+Special Size Modifier
Trip checks are just Strength+Special Size Modifier

Unless you're my character Apollo Argonos, in which case it's Strength + Int + Feat + Armbands + Sword, for a total modifier of +24 which is not bad for a Medium creature!

(Factotum, Improved Trip, Armbands of Might, luck bonus to checks from magic sword)
