Just a quick question:
When I DM a play by post game on the forums I usually type the descriptions in italics and speech in regular font with a colour. Is this against the formatting rule?

No, not at all.

Alrighty. I was wondering since it often resulted in entire posts in italics, which seemed a bit much and might have been against the rule.

No. Not even close to being against the rules. You are trying to make your post easier to read in the context of the game. The rule is there mostly for people who use formatting just for the sake of using formatting.

A good idea to keep in mind is that all formatting is there to make a post more understandable. If the use of bold, italics, underline, and color makes the post more confusing, less understandable, or not look good then it's excessive and breaks the rules.

I would guess that a post of yours would look something like:
Blah Blah Blah Blabbity blabbity blah blah blah

"Yadda Yadda Yada"
Rocks fall everyone dies

The sort of post that would get our attention for rules violation would be:
I' be A Preety Spechu1 UnICoRn!!!!1!11!!1!!!

I think this is the one forum rule that I have never heard asked about before.

But more on point... there should definitely be a rule against using pink or yellow. At all.

I think entire posts in italics is rather hard on the eyes, though.
