My DM has offered all of the PCs one magical item of our choice (that can be justified). I think I know what I am going to ask for, but want to see if anyone has any better idea.

Build: Silverbrow Human Spirit Lion Totem, Wolf Totem Barbarian 2/Totemist 8

Base Stats
STR 19
DEX 18
CON 18
INT 15
WIS 17
CHA 15

Current Items
+2 Chain Shirt of Quickness
+2 Necklace of Natural Attacks/+2 Natural Armor
Belt of STR +3/CON +4
Cloak of Resistance +1/Deflection +1
Lesser Crystal of Energy Assault (Acid)
Lesser Demolition Crystal
Lesser Truedeath Crystal

Feats
(1) IUS
(1-Human) Shape Soulmeld (Thunderstep Boots)
(3) Extra Rage
(6) Improved Natural Attack (Unarmed)
(9) Superior Unarmed Strike
I will be taking Knockdown at LVL 12.

I am leaning towards a +3 Necklace of Natural Attacks with either Desiccating or Sonic (or both, if I can get the DM to agree)/Necklace of Natural Armor +2*. I looked at danzibr's Totemist Handbook (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?287304-danzibr-s-Totemist-Handbook), but didn't see anything that really jumped out at me. I mostly use my unarmed attacks and use melds for bonuses. Occasionally I'll use a meld that gives another natural attack, but not often.

Any other suggestions?

* I am aware of how expensive this item is. However, the party is far above WBL, and while it is a clear improvement over my current necklace, it isn't as huge a jump as it might at first appear, given that I've been combining items to keep my chakras free.

If you are playing with physical dice, you may want to avoid Dessicating or Sonic and grab Collision (a flat +5 damage) instead.

Ask your DM if you can add abilities to an Amulet of Mighty Fists rather than enhancement bonuses only. If so, that's the better option for you than a Necklace of Natural Attacks given the number of natural attacks you're eventually going to have.

:D

Ya know, as I saw the title and clicked on the thread, before I read your post I thought to myself, ``Hmm, I can't think of any really expensive items which a Totemist would want.'' I mean specific to Totemists, not something which is good for everyone.

You mentioned you mostly use unarmed attacks and melds for bonuses. It might be best to get a Necklace of Natural Attacks (or rather, enhance your current one) as high as possible (whatever your DM allows).

If that's not appealing... check the List of Necessary Magic (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?187851-3-5-Lists-of-Necessary-Magic-Items) Items and pick an expensive one you think would be the most useful.

Fluff wise : a Horn of Valhalla (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#hornofValhalla), a berserker's cursed intelligent Wolf Pelt which may grants bonuses like a Demon Armor (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicArmor.htm#demonArmor) but also be a Robe of Vermin (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/cursedItems.htm#robeofVermin) at times...

not about item selection but...

why Silverbrow Human rather than Azurin?

Not a bad idea, and probably more likely to get past my DM. She's new and would probably object more to 2 enhancements (even if they only do d4) than one that does a flat +5. Then again, she approved the Greater Tentacle Rod, so who knows what I could get past her.

I'm not sure how many natural attacks I'll actually have at one time. As I said, I tend to be using the melds for extra abilities (i.e. Blink Shirt) or extra damage.

:D

When I saw you had replied, my first thought was "does he have some trick that summons him when his name is mentioned?"

That is kind of my thought at the moment. I'm only raising the enhancement to +3 since I was planning on adding the equivalent of +2 in other bonuses.

I'll take a look at that one. It did occur to me that an item that grants fly would be helpful. After I posted, I thought of an item that casts Fire Wings. (Use activated would be 60,000.) The advantage to asking for the amulet is that it is such a custom item, that I suspect the DM would make me wait while someone crafted it. An item that just casts a spell she may handwave as available.

Or I could just look on the list for something that grants fly and isn't as cheesy.

Fluff wise : a Horn of Valhalla (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#hornofValhalla),

The highest level it grants are LVL 5 Barbarians, which won't be terribly effective against what we are fighting.

a berserker's cursed intelligent Wolf Pelt which may grants bonuses like a Demon Armor (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicArmor.htm#demonArmor) but also be a Robe of Vermin (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/cursedItems.htm#robeofVermin) at times...

I'm looking for something that would be a dream come true (which is the exact fluff of what we are doing). So no cursed item.

So I can use the dragon melds. I didn't have a feat available to take Dragontouched.

Do you have any Chakras (besides Totem, obviously) that you bind as a standard thing, or do you tend to switch it up a bit more?

I often have Thunderstep Boots bound to my feet.

What about a flying carpet? Those things are pretty sweet. Or one of those grafts that gives you wings--that's totally a thing you'd get from a dream.

I would get an Incarnum Focus item of some kind - these allow you to have a soulmeld bound to a chakra containing that item without needing Split Chakra, and also boost the essentia capacity of any meld(s) occupying that chakra.

I check all the Totemist threads.

Boots might be a good idea, given you're putting essentia there and charging/pouncing a lot, which I assume you do, and you can add enchantments on there...

... on second thought, the investment doesn't really seem worth it. Yeah, go for flight.

If it is coming from a dream, maybe a psychoactive skin (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/items/universalItems.htm#psychoactiveSkins) ?

I've always been partial to the psychoactive skin of proteus. Always on, ML 7 Metamorphosis at will is sweeeeet. Its offensive, defensive, mobility, and utility uses are legion. It gets even better if it's crafted using Words of Creation for a bonus +1 to the manifester level. A level 4 power at will may not seem like much, but it is, quite possibly, THE most versatile published item in the game, by a very large stretch.

I agree it's a great item. It would be a good versatility boost, but one of its huge merits, combat forms, doesn't apply nearly as much since the op has great stats and focuses on unarmed strikes rather than piling on natural attacks. Personally I'd take a souped up NoNA, but my group is also more combat-centric.

Still, a solid item.
