Is there a way to add tags to a thread that is already in progress? Obviously I can add tags to a thread I start (like now), but I was curious to know if there is a way to add tags to a thread I haven't started.

Only if you started the thread, and only for the first X days, where X I believe is 30.

You should be able to add tags for an infinite amount of time, up to the limit of the number of tags you can add.
