Just saw a 1001 thread about these, what are they, and what book are they from?

MM3, oozes which contain the essence of a spell. Can't remember much else right now.

They are originally from Ebberon, where they inhabit the Mournlands. They're living spells that act as swarms or oozes. They engulf foes and affect them with their spell effects, or affect themselves with them.

Living Disjunction (technically not possible, but hey...). There's a thread about it on the Eb boards. I lulzed.

I liked the Living Spells. They made a weird kind of 'magic gone freaky wrong' sense for a cosmology which already has elementals and the like.
