I want to make a warmage into a Master transmogrifist.

basically i need to add polymorph and alter self to the warmage's list.

any ideas?

the best i could come up with was to add it via escentic learning (PHBII variant) but that puts me at lvl 10 before i can take Master transmogrifist as my 11th lvl.

is there a better way of doing it?

You'd need that 11th level in warmage to pick up eclectic learning to get polymorph, actually. So your twelfth level would be the start of master transmogrifist.

But really, that's about the only way to go about it that I can think of. Alter self and polymorph aren't evocation spells, so you need to be able to add non-evocation spells to the spell list, which is what eclectic learning is doing for you.

I don't know of another way to add spells to the spell list. According to the FAQ, the Extra Spell feat only adds a spell from the class' spell list, which means it doesn't do what you want (and makes the feat utterly worthless for a warmage, who know all the spells on their spell list anyway).

Not as a warmage. I think it's better to look at warmage(and beguiler, Dread necro) as sorcerers who specialzed in a school. Evocation in your case (illusion/enchantment, Necromancy). Trying to get an evoker into a transmutation PrC might be hard.

In any case, I think you hit the nail on the head. Use the Eccentric learning, and you'll be golden.

There's an alternate class ability in PHBII that lets Warmages pick up new spells that aren't Evocation spells at the cost of casting them at 1 spell level higher than they are on the list. I think this may be what you're looking for.

Why do you want to make a Warmage--that specific class--into a Master Transmogrifist?

BWL, shh! It makes us look better when other people make bad builds.

Actually, I'm with bwl in wanting to know why, character wise, this is even happening. Warmages are blasters, this is fluff as well as crunch. Master transmogrifist is a Prc for wizards who focus on, well, transmogrifying themselves to the exclusion of all other things.

You're taking a specialist of one thing and saying that you want to go into a prestige class that pre-supposes specialization in something completely different.

There is an item in the Eberron Explorer's handbook which would allow you to get access to the spells.

That's the ecclectic learning that the above posters are already talking about.
