I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this as it is technically a video game even though it's DnD 5E running actual WotC campaigns so it's kinda a grey area...

but anyway, it kinda came out of nowhere, and after watching the trailer I was hopeful and the initial reading looked promising. i mean, playing a isometric version of lost mine with 3 friends sounds great, but actual mechanical stuff has me worried...6 classes to choose from? what's up with that? why in gods name wouldn't they make all the available classes available in their own game?

has anyone been following the info about this game for real that might know some more? im most curious as to whether or not theres been any mention of adding all the other campaign modules to the game as content, like HotDQ and PotA

I agree with the classes part. I can't even decide what six i would include. Most likely ranger, fighter, cleric, wizard, rogue, barbarian. You have druid, paladin, and sorcerer which all are stables of the game. However the six i listed is what i expect to see

In theory, one could do some kind of system where base classes function more like categories and individual classes are more like an archetype choice. In that case, one could have caster (Cleric, wizard, sorcerer, druid, bard), hybrid (paladin, ranger), martial (fighter, barbarian), and specialist (monk, rogue, warlock).

I wouldn't do it this way, and I have no idea how they would come up with the number six, I'm just trying to think of possibilities. Perhaps they wanted for it to be feasible to assemble a full party containing every base class. Some of these types of games, such as Dragon Age, have even fewer classes to facilitate that.

With some very quick googling, I believe the 6 classes are cleric, fighter, paladin, ranger, rogue, and wizard. But the developers are hoping to add all the classes in the future. The justification seems to be mostly along the lines of making 6 functional, polished classes before trying to introduce them all.

These are pretty good choices as well. 2 Full Casters, 2 Hybrids and 2 Martials.

The lack of bard disturbs me. Especially since it's 5e bards we're talking about.

I could get behind that, though I would hope that the classes are added in as a patch rather than DLC. I'm curious as to what the 5th race will be. The four 'iconic' Dwarf, Elf, Human, Halfling will obviously be included, but I'm curious as to what the final race would be. Mechanically speaking, the first four include +2 bonuses to STR, DEX, and CON. There's currently no +2 WIS race, so that leaves CHA and INT. If balance is being sought, this puts forward the Half-Elf and Gnome as likely candidates. The Tiefling also receives a CHA bonus, but is less in line with Forgotten Realms lore, which may discourage implementation. If subraces are going to be included in the game (I don't believe there's significant evidence one way or the other), Gnome would be more favorable for having two subraces.

i think it's gnome, i recall seeing one in a screen cap. as for the DLC/update comment adding classes in DLC seems like robbery to me unless it's rolled together with a full new campaign or something.

of the choices though it's probably paladin for me if i end up getting the game. I'm pretty excited about the DM mode too. It might be cool to run a hybrid campaign where you play on roll 20 for the majority of the campaign and then once it's time to dungeon you switch over to the game and play everything that way. might be a fun way to do things depending upon how robust the creation engine is.
