POLICE STATION

This building is currently under the control of the Fourth Empire.

Inside the building there are many people at various desks. They all have something in common, a badge. This badge certifies that they are members of a squad developed and devoted to doing just one thing, stopping crime. They are the Town Police.

As you walk into the foyer you can see a large doorway on the right in what you're sure is an outside wall. Looking through it you can see a set of metal stairs leading down to some more cells. A sign above the doorway says Cell Block Extension. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17677) A sign over the front desk reads "Amulets of Trueseeing in Operation. Please leave Lies and Illusions at the door." Behind and to one side of the desk in Captain office.

I will update this as often as I can, but please remember that it may not be current.

The Rules:
If anyone (even a citizen) gets evidence on a crime, and are able to track down the criminal, then they can arrest him. The suspect will be in jail for a period of time according to the crime, after which the criminal will be released back into town. Due to rights for a speedy trial, the criminal will be held at max for 48 hours in the station if we can't settle it in court.
When arresting, one must first ask the criminal to come quietly, and then if they do not they may subdue them, using lethal force at their discretion. Criminals wanted for murder, battery, or assault should expect lethal force to be used against them.

{table="head"]The Crime|The Punishment|Other
Murder|36 hours|No bail, resurrection fine, one week parole and weapon restriction.
Battery|24+ hours|2,000gp bail and healing fine, one week parole and 3 day weapon restriction

Desecration|6 hours |500gp, one day of community service to temple
Jay walking|No hours|50gp

Streaking|6 hours|150gp
Contempt of Court|6 hours|No bail
Trespassing|6 hours|100gp[/table]

Parole and Weapon Restriction
Parole is served simply by being scryed on by the police for the duration of your parole. Weapon restriction is accomplished by wearing a bracelet provided by the OmniShop. This bracelet prevents you from using any aggressive magic or drawing weapons ((Aggressive magic includes harmful or unlawful uses of any magic)) The bracelet also prevents you from attempting to harm or remove the bracelet directly or indirectly. These weapon restricting bracelets are made of adamantine and are unable to be taken off normally by anyone other than a police officer.

Internal Discipline
Officers who are discovered to be neglectful or willfully derelict in their duty will be subject to disciplinary action. Infractions last for 1 month, and on officer who commits two infractions within a month will have his/her badge taken away, his/her powers as an officer revoked, and be asked to leave the force.
To Report A Crime - CHANGES! MAKE NOTE!
Please LINK to the thread where the crime was committed. We play this as real time, so if you enter the building after the crime, all you can do is collect evidence/statements to prove the crime. Anyone may collect evidence and report crimes.

To report a crime, fill out a report in the following manner.
1. Use quote tags to separate the report from the rest of your post.
2. Write out an in-character report, providing links to the appropriate threads. Please post links in "messy" format, rather than "pretty" format.
3. Merely posting that your character fills out a report is not sufficient. If I find that someone has done this without actually taking the time to write up a report, no report will be considered to have been filed, and any criminals you may have brought in will be released by the fairies. Furthermore, repeated failure to properly file a report may result in infractions being given out (see the Internal Discipline section, above).

((To Link,
1. Copy the address line http://www.giantitp (http://www.giantitp/)...
2. Paste in the post
3. Place the [*url*] tag in front and [*/url*] at the end of the address.
4. Remove the * from the tags above.))
The Police Force- Current Officers and Joining the force

Joining the Force
To join the police force, either find the Captain or a Senior Officer of the appropriate department (see below) to swear you in. A police officer will receive weekly pay of 100gp, weapons (of your choice), weapon repair, and riot gear, a desk at the station, and room and board in the station barracks should they want to.
Senior Officers receive pay of 150gp each week, have authority over all normal officers, may deputize citizens and swear in new officers, and handle police station political matters should the captain be off duty.
Captains recieve pay of 200gp each week and have authority over all officers, may deputize citizens and swear in new officers, and handle police station political matters.

The force is divided into two departments, the Patrol and the Wardens.
The Patrol consist of those who are paid for detective work, town patrol duty, and a quick response team to back up citizens in reported fights.
The Wardens are made up of the people who jail and guard criminals, take care of legal and diplomatic matters, and scry on those people serving parole.
Each department has a separate Captain and a Senior Officer.

The badges given to the police act as badges of Trueseeing, and allow the police officer to contact any other badge-wearer with telepathy. They can either be pinned on, or aligned with the body's magnetic field to simply hold onto the wearer.
To be sworn in, you must first pass an alignment test. We accept no officers with Chaotic or Evil alignments. Once this test has been passed, the potential officer must answer the following questions in the affirmative:
Do you swear to uphold the law in this town?

Do you promise to obey the rules of the police as noted on page 1 of the police station thread?

Do you swear to the best of your ability to track and record crimes as well as apprehend and arrest criminals?

Our motto:
TO PROTECT AND SERVE THE GOOD CITIZENS OF TOWN.

The Station:
NPCs
Fairies Krista and Feorwyn are about the station to help take statements, open cells to release prisoners after time is served, and make fresh pots of coffee for waiting persons. Please use as you feel necessary. Feorwyn - She is pretty darn surly for a lady. Krista -she just wants to get the work done and is always running around hecticly. They feed you when you are in prision. So shut the shock up.
The station has been enchanted in the same manner as Trog's, so it may not be destroyed.

Cells
All cells in the station and the cell block are made of reinforced adamantine and enchanted to block all use of magic and psionics inside them. The cell doors are barred and have force in between them. Also an anit-agression feild is in them. You cannot attack anyone or anything while in the cell. Including yourself. Please don't try.
Whether the officer who jails you posts it or not, it is assumed that the faeries take all your equipment and store it in a security locker. It is also assumed that the door is locked when you are put in. Also you are fed.

Aciba I would assume is unburied and resisting the massive urge to attack something.

Everyone is dug out. Aciba is still in a cell mostly consiting of walls of force.

Chaotic Bob
2007-04-16, 10:44 PM
((just walls? Does that include a ceiling?))

Aciba merely slowly looks around him, his mind trying to recall what happened.

2007-04-16, 10:45 PM

2007-04-17, 08:35 PM
No one has filed one.

The mutt sticks his head out. Yeah I was waiting to talk to you about it. My theory is space zombie pirates switched him with an evil one.

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 08:37 PM
Chazz flies in and walks slowly, listening for footsteps to help him navigate the station.
Could I get a job here?

Lord Iames Osari

Space zombie pirates? Aerin blinks. No, I think his evil side was responsible. Did his voice sound different?

Damn. So could I work here? Anybody there?

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 08:46 PM
Just a moment, Aerin says to Chazz. Well be right with you. Did he sound like this? she asks the mutt.

McBish
2007-04-17, 08:49 PM
Yeah, like that. Wait has he done this before?

Raistlin1040

Chazz stands straight, not leaning to any direction for fear of falling.

Uberblah
2007-04-17, 08:51 PM
Atok turns to Chazz. He sees the glasses on the ground and picks them up. He fixes them with his magic and holds them out to Chazz.
Hello, sir. Did you drop these?

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 08:53 PM
Aerin nods. Yes.

McBish
2007-04-17, 08:54 PM
Oh. Well that sucks. Um... so...

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 08:54 PM
Chazz shrugs.
Yeah. But don't worry about them. They don't help me see.

Uberblah
2007-04-17, 08:58 PM
Atok looks confused for a moment. Then Realization walks over to him to explain that Chazz is blind. Atok nods as Realization goes back to his corner. Atok looks at Chazz.
Oh. I see. Sorry to hear that. I'd offer to try and help but I've never tried giving someone their sight back. Too powerful magic for me right now.

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 08:58 PM
So do I know how to stop it?

McBish
2007-04-17, 09:00 PM
Well that would be great, if you did.

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 09:01 PM
It's fine. I'm a wizard. I've tried many times. It's incapable by any magic. I doubt even gods could fix them. But it's fine. I got super hearing he opens his cloak to reveal large greay and brown wings. And these.

Uberblah
2007-04-17, 09:03 PM
Atok smiles even though Chazz can't see it. He looks with a teenagers amazement at the wings.
Those are so cool... I only have a Flyte Charm. But it does the same thing

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 09:05 PM
Well that would be great, if you did.

If I can get into a position where I'm between him and whatever he's trying to hurt, he'll snap out of it for a while, but otherwise, I don't. So he is wanted? On what charges?

McBish
2007-04-17, 09:18 PM
Nope. Like I said I was buried under rubble for a good portion of the fight. I think Maph'tey was around, he would probably know more. Maybe.

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 09:28 PM
I see. Well, until there's a report and charges filed...

Lord Iames Osari

Chaotic Bob
2007-04-17, 09:49 PM
Xeni walks in, though he looks a tad...older would be the best word, than usual. He ignores everyone else as he walks over to Aciba's cell and sits in front of it.

This appears to draw more snarls and more vicious banging against the door.

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 09:50 PM
Your name, please?

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 09:53 PM
Chazz Gavin.

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 09:57 PM
Krysta, wand him. Krysta pulls out a wand and waves it over Chazz.

((What's your alignment?))

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 10:00 PM
((Neutral Good.))

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 10:04 PM
He reads Neutral Good, Ma'am.

Do you swear to uphold the law in this town?

Do you promise to obey the rules of the police as noted on page 1 of the police station thread?

Do you swear to the best of your ability to track and record crimes as well as apprehend and arrest criminals?

Chaotic Bob
2007-04-17, 10:07 PM
Xeni takes another look at his pocket watch and winces.
I'm sorry Aciba, I simply wanted to get one last look at you.

Aciba blinks and stops his door ramming. Then he ceases to exist.

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 10:09 PM
Chazz nods three times.

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 10:16 PM
I'm sorry, we have to have your verbal or written agreement.

Chaotic Bob
2007-04-17, 10:21 PM
Xeni looks at Aciba's now-empty cell for a few moments and bows his head.
I'm truly sorry my friend....

2007-04-17, 10:26 PM
I hereby swear.

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 10:31 PM
Here's your badge. Aerin hands him a badge. It grants true seeing and lets you communicate telepathically with anyone else wearing a badge.

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 10:33 PM
Chazz smirks.
True Seeing. If only.

((You know, because he's blind.))

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 10:38 PM
Oh, I'm sorry. I'll see if I can get one made for you that has touchsight instead.

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 10:39 PM
Thank you Captain. What exactly is touchsight?

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 10:41 PM
It creates a telekinetic field that lets you feel where everything within it is.

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 10:42 PM
Yeah, I could really use one of those. Thanks. Can I pick it up tomorrow?

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 10:44 PM
I don't know if it'll be ready tomorrow, but I'll get it to you as soon as possible.

Raistlin1040
2007-04-17, 10:47 PM
Alright. I've got to stretch my wings. I'll be back tomorrow.
Chazz leaves.

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-17, 10:49 PM
Aerin looks around to see if there's anyhting else she need to deal with.

Chaotic Bob
2007-04-17, 10:51 PM

As the encapsulated sDestro bounces into his cozy cell Maph'tey begins filling out a report on the happenings.

I was keeping an eye on Trog's when some sort of ghost showed up and began annoying the patrons. One fellow decided to defend himself and was subsequently possessed. The ghost then used the possessed fellow's body to kill another patron. I expelled the apparition and encapsulated him for transport back to the station.

Also of interest. He made a comment about losing count and then wrote a 'one' in blood on the wall. I believe he may have had to do with the 'numbered murders' that had been attributed to Destro. The fact that the ghost bears a strong resemblance to Destro seems to support this deduction.

Witnesses: Xeni.

Revenant stands still for a second.

"If you think you are one to order me, then you are dead wrong. If you are one to order me twice, I shall remove the wrong and leave you dead. Count your blessings that my love for the law has saved you."

He then steps into the cell, shutting the door himself.

"I will have you know that you should not release me from this place. To think I had wanted to settle down peacefully, now I warn you that should you open this door again I will slay you and every single man, woman and child whose name I know in retribution for your pathetic attempt at serving justice."

He grins at Maph'tey, sliding the nail out of his hands as he sits down.

"I need not be released for a trial, I fully confess to the removal of filth from my beloved town. Who serves your law now, one who would let that filth stain the ground again and again?"

With that, he seemingly defies the antimagic to slam two nails, cross-wise, through the lock. There's a chilling feeling that he can easily overcome the antimagic, but simply does not for an unknown reason.

Patrol officer Maph'tey turns and leaves the station. Paper-pusher Maph'tey swivels around on his stool to face Revenant.

"And senseless murder would make you the law-breaker then, now wouldn't it?" the normally friendly Traveler regards Revenant with something as close to hate as one will ever see from him. "I became an officer here not because I have any love for their brand of justice, or lack there of, I became an officer as a sign of my commitment to protect those who can not protect themselves. That would include any of those innocents you threaten to slay should you be freed."

"Those who choose to forsake the Angel of the Scale are no innocents. And all of them have, one after the other. If anything, I'll not be commiting murder," He smiles slightly at Maph'tey, enjoying the banter. He then grins again.

"I'll be commiting cruelty to animals. And don't worry, I'll turn myself in for that crime, too.

Now I have a story. So do yourself a favor and stay silent, for the sake of the meaning."

He pulls out a few nails and begins tossing them at various surfaces within the cell, watching them richochet and catching them again.

"You don't honestly believe that you are the first to face me? You believe that the pathetic, bipolar limping carcass that is Clergyman State created me? I speak with such certainty to my actions because I have done this so many times before. And always, it has been the same. The poor soul who decided to put me away goes soft, and he dies, drowning, his lungs filled with steel and blood. And many followed."

He throws yet another nail straight through the lock, jamming it further.

"It bores me so to know the routine is unchangeable, but I must do it for the sake of order. I've started keeping myself confined, locking myself away, because I always just end up killing, then getting killed myself, as it is assured by the divine law... and it starts again when some misguided, power-hungry worm brings me into being again."

He looks up, reminiscing.

"And don't think I'm any filthy god of undeath, despite my form. It is the lone remaining piece of me today that creates your hated, yet utterly powerless Namesake. His body was mine, and he was killed after doing to all he knew exactly what I intend to do to you."

He speaks with an evil perversion of the tone normally associated with "it's nothing personal," before continuing, whether anyone wants to hear or not.

"It's a pity, too. My ward developed sentience and fell in love with that pretty adventurer girl, the one with the striking, light-filled eyes."

He pauses, then abruptly tears out his eye-nails, and tosses them to either side, practicing his aim. They come richocheting right back into his head with a sickening ring.

"She will die as well for helping him. Your mind is weak, Maph'tey. As weak as Namesake's. Both of you went into this body, and look at what happened. Love. Guilt. Self-doubt. Respect for those who deserve not even for one to look at them. Both of you have sickening qualities, and were it not for my timely intervention I might have acted on them.

I have already broken her heart, and her will. After you, I shall break the rest of her."

He cracks his neck, apparently satisfied.

"Does that clear things up, Traveler?"

"You would slay someone for unknowingly attempting to aid you?" Maph'tey seems... sickened by this nasty being in general. At first he had assumed it was some sort of avatar of harsh justice, but at this point he really isn't sure. Apparently it believes that even the slightest deviation from its whims on the part of others is a crime befitting death.

The Traveler has seen death during his existence. Lots of it. And if there's anything he despises more than anything else it's someone willing to slay other sapient beings. Not to protect itself or its kin. Not to survive. But just because.

Just because they broke some arbitrary law that exists only in the mind of the mad abomination sitting in front of him.

He had seen that woman... Iris. Her hope had been shattered by this thing. Because... his ward had developed a mind of its own? So what is it then? Just a vessel for this angle of the scale thing?

"You think you can enact justice on me for the wrongs I've committed? And how do you intend to do that? With pieces of steel? Magic? Your own divine impotence? Why don't you tell me? Tell me how you're going to punish me for my sin."

"You should know by now, Maph'tey. You are punished by my very existence. I would consider ending you to be a relief on your soul."

He pauses.

"Indeed, your greatest sin will be if you let me go free, and yet it is your salvation. It's ironic.

Besides, I'm sure we share some goals.

I may intend to kill you, the girl, that raven-haired paladin, and the false royal,"

He drawls on, obviously a bit bored with himself. He perks up at this point, though.

"But I will also personally put an end to poor, misguided Namesake and his entire band of fools. There is good to the bad, even for you. Of course, to me it is all the same glorious justice."

He then leans forward, into the bars, smiling and whispering.

"And then there's the added bonus that I'll kill my ward in the end...he's a useless burden anyway, and I'll be gone until someone decides to bring me back again."

"You honestly think that I'm bothered to any great degree by the fact that State used my corpse to make your 'ward'?" Maph'tey snorts. "I was surprised at first. Not much more than that. And don't you dare compare my goals to yours. I don't kill people. Not anymore."

He leans back in his chair, arms across his chest.

"I have no desire to see State or any of the other KNAVEs dead. Locked away until they realize the horror of what they're doing? Sure. But I wouldn't slay them even though they're murderers."

"And I have no intention of releasing you. Your time to go may be a little over a month from now but I intend to push for your indefinite incarceration. Anyone who admits to being ready to kill again the moment they're free should be imprisoned for the rest of their existence."

"And that wouldn't be irony, by the way. Irony would be telling me you intend to 'rescue' everyone in Town only to 'rescue' them by killing them all. That would be ironic."

NecroPaladin
2007-04-19, 01:26 AM
"But in death they are saved from my prescence. Again, it is a favor. Consider the mechanics of true sin. I kill. So thus, it would be a sin to leave me alive, ready to kill again. And that includes leaving me locked up, because of even the chance of someone letting me out. Sinful. But similarly, I am an abomination, or so you say, and it would be best to slay me, yes?"

The Angel of the Scale pauses for effect before continuing.

"Wrong. Not only would you be killing poor Revenant, the peniless, amnesiac undead who barely even knows where he came from and is infatuated with a beautiful woman who happens to think him a monster..."

The Angel makes an especially evil grin, the metal in his head scraping like a grindstone. Apparently now that Revenant is sentient, The Angel has no problem using the concept of killing him against Maph'tey.

"But, as I am still even a slight part you, killing me would be suicide."

He throws yet another nail through the lock for effect.

"And suicide is not just a sin, it is illegal. And the most capital of all punishments follows; not just death, but an inferno awaits your wretched soul. This is a punishment that I would be happy to carry out.

I believe the term they use is 'damned if you do, damned if you don't.' I dislike that term, but it fits. Your only option is to keep me here if you want a 'happy' ending to this tale. But even then you sin."

Lord Iames Osari

“I see,” Maph’tey responds slowly. He could go into great detail regarding the fact that there are literally thousands of ‘True Creators of the World’ simply due to the nature of the Town, but he decides against it. “In which case that would make things somewhat more difficult. Cutting a god’s divinity out by severing their link to their worshipers is workable. Hell, I’ve done it to myself. Cutting someone off from a higher power would be… more difficult.”

He begins pondering aloud.

“Maybe if this whole thing could be painted as one of the makers making a grab for influence by creating an avatar some of the others would step in…”

Fine. I am a fragment of your being. I am a realization of all the potential for evil you had made manifest. I imagine I'd be significantly more powerful if I had broken off later, but that just wasn't feasible.

I have nothing to do with anger. I have to do with enjoying death. Now you, Destro, you feared death. I did not and, as you can see, death has made me stronger. The ghost goes off on a villainous monologue about how inevitable Destro's defeat is. Destro glares at him and turns towards Maph'tey.

Somehow I don't think it would matter. If he's all the evil I never did, wouldn't there be more of him if I had held more back? And then there are the villains who aren't evil incarnations of people. The ones that are outside influences, and have come here with a purpose.

Well, the Masters were apparently creatures of pure law. They escaped from some other world, where they had been stuck for a good long time, and came to town. Upon discovering it and the chaos it represented they decided it needed balancing and, in order to do this, they would have to destroy it. A wraith, dedicated to balance itself, agreed that the chaos should be reduced but not ended. The result was a very, very annoying man popping around Town at random generally pissing people off. Called everyone who used magic and wasn't him a "warper". At this point the ghost interjects with a few choice words regarding Destro's parents. One of Destro's eyes twitches. Not. Another. Word.
