View Full Version : Rich is sick; comic delayed until Tuesday

The Giant
2007-04-17, 01:01 AM
Today's strip is going to be delayed until tomorrow; I've been sick all day with a fever and can barely sit up without coughing my head off. I actually slept right through the time the comic was due, and now that it's late anyway, I'm going back to bed and working on it tomorrow during the day. No promises on what time, but it will be up before Wednesday's strip, so there will still be three this week.

Sorry for not alerting you guys earlier, in case anyone waited up for it.

Try taking lots of vitamin C and Zinc, in good doses they can reduce the severity and duration of a cold/flu if taken early.

As to the symptoms, I use alkaseltzer+ cold medicine, it works for me.

That would be me, and it's okay. I did take the time to get a few pages of the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer behind me.

And please Rich, get a great deal of sleep. That's the best remedy.

I was looking forward to this comic today to get my out of my Depression Day, but I suppose I can live until tomorrow, which should be a better day.

Ganbate Rich, hope you feel better, I've been sick today as well, I assumed it might not go on today due to the real life problems in VA today, which is so saddening, I have friends who go to a christian college in the next county over.

Giant,

Hope you feel better. I had actually fallen asleep earlier, woke up and thought I would check for the strip. (And make sure that my cats had food) so with both of those done, back to bed I go!

Get better soon Rich!

In the future, have you considered storing up a buffer of 2 or 3 strips?

You're lucky I have chronic insomnia, Mr. Burlew, or I would count hours of sleep wasted.

No, I'm kidding. Not about the chronic insomnia, but the implication I'm upset.

Getting the strip done tomorrow might be optimistic of you, Rich, if you are that sick today. You don't owe us anything. Heal first, draw later.

Ah, I see that we are back to the summer time tues, thurs, sat schedule (if we're lucky).

Here's what I recommend. Get a couple of guest artist to do about 3 weeks worth of filler strips. Then when Cons, or sicknesses or plane delays or whatever causes the strip to be late, post one of the filler strips.
Better yet, get about 3 weeks of strips in the can as a buffer. That way we never see that the strip was late because there are several strips all ready to go.

I will say that I'm impressed that the strip was able to get back on schedule from last august's scheduling disaster

I'll share here my medicine cabinet for flu and gough cause I need (and hope) you to get well:

Drink much warm drinks (not much coffee) and drink generally much (not milk). It helps to get the slime out of your system and lessens the painf of goughing.

Take your C-vitamins, it's even better if you take them in form of black currant or honey... those have some other healing cualities too

Don't forget the heavy stuff (carlic and ginger)

Yes and drink much

You realize, of course, that we'll need to see a note from your doctor :).

Take care of yourself, Rich. And PLEASE don't over-exert yourself. I'm willing to wait a few days for a funny comic, as opposed to one that's so-so because you had to rush the deadline while you were sick. That's what filler is for, isn't it?

Respectfully,

Take your time to heal Rich. Sleep and symptomatic treatment (Tylenol, Advil and the like) are the best solution for common flu. And there was a nasty batch of flu this year.

And don't feel too guilty about the Monday strip (I did check at 1 a.m., you know :smallamused: ). You (and the fans) should think about the numbers of double lenght strips we got the last month....someone should count them. They should compensate.

@Rich: First of all: Get well soon - and get REALLY well. I've been ill/sick for two weeks and counting by now and believe me, I know by now that it's absolutely not a good idea to try to start working again or to keep up working almost as usual when you're ill... it'll only throw you even farther into illness.
Even if almost everyone around here is starving for a new comic, don't try to force it, okay?

I'm currently learning not to force the ability to go back to work again the hard way - and I don't want anyone else to have to go through a learning process that way...

btw, anyone around who's got some sort of real life "Instant-Cure-It-All"(R)-healing potions like they only exist in fantasy RPGs? :smallfrown:

Hope you feel better.

Oh, and I'd been meaning to come back and post this for a couple months, but this finally gave me enough context to get off (on?) my butt and do so: last time I had posted here I was griping about the update schedule. Just wanted to say that I've been thrilled with the updates, and thank you.

I suggest a medicine with codeine or some similar active ingredient followed swiftly by a half a can of beer, now whilst this will not make you feel better per say it will knock you out for a good few hours which is preferable to being awake and flu/cold ridden.

Aside from that I nth the good wishes and hope for a speedy recovery, but in the meantime winge and whine like a bloke is meant to at times like these and annoy your other half/ poor sap you conned into looking after you.

Heh. This thread represents a "Get well soon" card to the Giant from the Internet.

Pull through it man, stay in bed 'till you feel better. Stay in bed for a while after you feel better too. (So if you're reading this, go take another nap!) I always need a bit more sleep after having a fever, I never feel RESTED afterwards, even if I've been in bed all day.

It's groovy man, just get to feelin' better.

One thing that perks me up when I have the walkin' crud is a very simple mix of @1/2 cup pure honey (remember, darker is purer) with @1 TBSP pure lemon juice and just fill the rest of the mug up with hot water and drink it down smoothly and slowly. The combination of those two things will knock out any gunk in the throat, open the sinuses and 5 times out of 10 will fix a fever as well.

Regardless, the last time a comic was delayed due to illness you came up with some really clever stuff! :D

I'm kinda with some of the other folks who have mentioned that perhaps you should have a few reserve filler pages that are guest strips done by some other webcomic friends or some such.

Speaking of guest strips, are you ever going to produce those in one of the books?
I know that you have done some for other webcomic artists as well as vice-versa and it would be nice to have those.

I have been re-reading the books that you've already provided our hungy stick-figure appetites with and I've enjoyed the added chuckles that the fillers from the 1st book Era have provided.

SteveMB
2007-04-17, 01:03 PM
Speaking of guest strips, are you ever going to produce those in one of the books?
That would depend on the arrangements he made with the guest artist; putting them in a book might require a new permission and a share of the book income (i.e. probably not worth it).

I'm aware of that possibility too.

Though I would hope that placing the guest strip and plugging the artist's webcomic would be enough compensation.

Kinda like a TFP arrangement for photographers and models. :D
