several deities died and large areas of the world were changed, as well as some fairly drastic changes to the setting as a whole (i recall hearing the word "spellplague" a lot), as i understand it. also, the setting advanced something like 70 years? can't recall. i didn't like FR as an RPG setting before 4e decided to screw around randomly with the most popular setting for D&D ever, and i sure as hang wasn't about to pay 40 bucks to find out exactly what they had done to it for the edition of D&D i like least out of all the ones i've played.

so far as i'm concerned, 4th edition FR never happened anyways :P
