It probably has been object o much guessing here already - and I can't find if the Giant has said something on the matter, but I've just realized that I missed the opportunity - in the Interview - of asking him details about Elan's plan to get an airship (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0389.html). I know it probably was meant to be some silly joke, but I'm really curious about it.

Elan intended to use the corkscrew to make a hole in a watermelon.

If you ask him that and he answers it at all, he's going to say that what you see of the joke is all that he bothered to figure out. I can practically guarantee it.

I think this is one of those situations where no explanation can possibly be as clever as what your imagination comes up with.
Clearly Rich had no actual plan here.

The title of the strip is "As Good an Explanation as is Forthcoming"

He's already given you the best explanation you're going to get.

I'm 99% positive that you put a post on reddit with the goal: stowaway on an airship, and your required tools: Giant wooden alpaca stuffed with potato salad, corkscrew, rope, traffic cone, skiis, soap, basketball (and anything else, really, but those are all required) someone will come up with a solution.
