So, I'm about to start playing in an Emerald Spire game. I want to play a paladin, but I'm not sure what direction to go in, both fluff and crunch-wise. Mostly, I'm looking for ideas and suggestions, not so much optimization (Though that's welcome as well.) Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have!

You'll want some kind of ability to see in the dark-- the first couple levels are all shrouded in magical darkness so that light only travels 5ft. Either darkvision or scent, if you go melee. Dunno much beyond that; I quit that campaign in annoyance when I found out that most of the rest of the group had known about that but hadn't warned me when I was rolling up a gunslinger.

Since it's a superdungeon, it is indeed entirely underground and often dark. Often 5' corridors as well. A large mount won't fit in many places. because of this, look at playing a race with darkvision, and don't hesitate to take an archetype that prevent you from getting a mount.

Or play a small race to get a medium mount. All the extra dice offset the smaller polyhedrals rather quickly.

Alternately, stay back and play an Oradin, perhaps using the Divine Hunter (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/paladin/archetypes/paizo---paladin-archetypes/divine-hunter) archetype. Kill from a distance, avoid damage, and keep everybody alive!

Actually, that sounds like a ton of fun for me, and a few new headaches for my GM. Hm....

Don't forget Unsanctioned Knowledge (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/unsanctioned-knowledge) for easy access to some goodies if you get to spellcasting.
