View Full Version : Should the Giant take Friday off?

happyturtle

Rich is still sick, but said he would push himself to get Friday's strip done. While we all appreciate his hard work, perhaps we can convince him to take it easy and fully recover.

Edited to add: I didn't get the poll up in the five minute window, but we can vote manually. Your choices are:

Yes! Take time off, and your loyal minions will patiently await your recovery.
No! You owe us free comics from your deathbed! And then we'll animate you and make your undead form draw comics!
:thog: stay away! thog not want Giant cooties!

He should take it off. Rich, take a break. We can wait.

Don't you DARE get out of bed, Rich!

I hope he doesn't push himself too hard and slow down his recovery. That said, I haven't the slightest idea whether or not he is; he's the world leading authority on how to live his own life.

I could live without the comic for a day.

While it's completely up to Mr. Burlew, I'd say take the time to get better. It's better to skip one and get some rest.

No, deathbed strips >:¬(

Joking. Take it easy if you are sick, i wouldn't wanna work if i were sick ;¬)

Don't you DARE get out of bed, Rich!

...what if he drew it in bed? That way he gets to relax!

Clearly every comic is like a piece of gold, but don't put it ahead of your own well-being, giant. Get well soon!

Or, like mentioned above, we'll have to reanimate you as an undead webcomic artist. :smallamused:

Whichever decision he makes on his own is A-OK with me, not that my input is necessary in any way. If he decides to push for a strip, nifty! I'll read it happily. If he decides to recuperate, that's just fine too and I'll probably just go back and look at an old one :) Get better soon, man!

Get well, Rich.

Thanks for thinking of us even when feeling so poorly.

Do whatever you feel you should.

Having comics slightly late till Rich recovers is better than him ending up dying from a combination of illness and overwork (if it ever does get that bad!) and us never getting comics again. And obviously better than :thog: Think about it.

Just relax, take your day off, we can wait. Take all the time you need to recover.

BisectedBrioche

Come to think of it, wouldn't he be quite poor at writing comics if he's forcefully resurrected as an undead?

As the people here show, the fanbase, myself inculded, is more than happy to let Real Life take prioity over the webcomic. I mean, everyone has off days/weeks/years/whatever.

do what you feel you can. no more can be asked in honesty.

Let Thog write a guest comic!

:thog: Me like drawing! Thog do puppy comic!

Seriously, we can all live with missing one comic. And this is as good of a spot for a 4 day break as any we've had recently. I really appreciate the work Rich puts in for our amusement, but I can't expect him to keep it up when he's sick.

I agree that Rich shouldn't push himself to make a comic if he's really so sick. I doubt that he's going to listen to us, thoug.

meh, if he feels up to it, do it. If not, don't.

Simple as that.

Sleep, Rich Burlew! The Great God Wizzardman commands you!

...
There. Now either he'll get some rest [which is good] or he'll make a comic just to spite me [which is also good, though less healthy for him].

JediNite
2007-04-19, 04:07 PM
Sir, you likely feel the same way I do right now.
Don't compound the problem. Get some rest, we'll survive without the comic.
Plus, Jedi not want Rich cooties any more than :thog: .

Well, I believe Rich is a grown man capable of making his own decisions, and if he feels he should do something, he should do it, whether that be making the comic or resting.

That being said, I agree with all else that I wouldn't be wholly heartbroken at the loss of a comic on Friday. We've all been sick, and it sucks.

Take the day off if you need to, Giant. We'll still be here when you get back.

chibibar
2007-04-19, 04:36 PM
Yes Rich is a grown man, but in the same time I'm sure if I was a creator with fans, I want to keep my fans happy.

But on the fan side, I want Rich to be well and create more stuff down the line so personally I don't mind if Rich needs to take a break. It is a free comic for us and thus I can wait until the next one :)

Yes, I think the Giant should take Friday off. If he kills himself for one strip, we'll never get to see the end!

brian c
2007-04-19, 04:55 PM
If he's still very sick, then he should go ahead and take his time with the next comic. If he can work on it in bed or whatever that would be great, but if he sleeps all day like Monday that's probably better. If he's not feeling too bad anymore though, I'm sure everyone would love to see a new comic on Friday.

valis
2007-04-19, 05:14 PM
No! Never!!! *cracks whip* Get back to work!!!

J/K

If you're too sick to work just have a guest strip or filler art.

Cade Shadow
2007-04-19, 06:10 PM
While I agree that he should rest, this won't accomplish anything unless the Giant is a hypocrite/liar about his visiting the board. And if he is, how do we know that he didn't make up the illness?

But giant, on the off chance that you are lying, take the day off and pretend like you never say this and posted about you taking the day off from your own thoughts. Also, be sure to list the reasons why you are doing so, which happens to coincide perfectly with eh reasons listed here.

chibibar
2007-04-19, 06:27 PM
Its been awhile since we had a guest strip :)

2007-04-19, 06:29 PM
I would not enjoy missing Friday's strip. I would have to suffer from Thursday until Monday without any new OOTS. However, if Rich is really sick, he should take the time to recover. Anyways, the Friday one might not be so good at all if he can't think clearly.

Rich should take a day off. I'd much rather have someone come back to work after a day at 100% than have them working at 50% for two.

Not to mention, unless you're pure evil, no one would or will pick the "work even though you are sick" option.

It's up to the Giant. If he's feeling chipper and artsy, I'd be glad to see another page.

If not, there's nothing wrong with taking a sickday.

storybookknight
2007-04-20, 09:21 AM
I don't think he's in serious impending danger of death, guys... the whole 'killing himself' thing may indeed be overblown.

Not being able to judge for myself what his life is like right now, I'm not passing judgement - I'm pretty sure that he can decide whether or not he feels like drawing a comic, and that he doesn't need my permission to skip a day if he doesn't.

Freelance Henchman
2007-04-20, 09:22 AM
He's old enough to decide when his health is good enough to work. Seriously, he owes the fans *nothing*. I can't believe people who b*tch and moan and berate someone who provides entertainment for free.

PirateMonk
2007-04-20, 09:23 AM
No no no, we cast Inflict Critical Wounds on him now and turn him into an undead capable of thought and drawing. Undead don't get sick.

((It's his decision.))

Well, if it were me, and only if it were me, I'd charge forth on the comic!
On the condition that there is lot of chicken broth involved. Real chicken broth. Not that canned "Cream of Chicken" stuff. No fried chicken broth either... though that sounds pretty good.

Being bedridden feels intolerable.

I think he should make one comic less per week, and get to sit under a palm tree with a nice gin&tonic and a cigar. But that's just what I think. I'm a gentle soul.
