View Full Version : DM Help [3.5] Looking for a good VoP fix

I'm considering DMing an exalted campaign, and I'd like to sit back and let someone else do all the work stand on the shoulders of Giants(itp). I was wondering if anyone had a link to a decent VoP fix that doesn't revamp the entire system. Mainly what I'm looking for is some cleaned up language to prevent doorknob use = falling* and Exalted feats that are worth taking. I'd also consider a list of General feats that are worth considering as Exalted for this purpose (Eschew Materials comes to mind). I'm not really interested in the benefits chart changing to something more worthwhile. I'd like this to actually be a step down from actual wealth (as it will be uniformly applied to all PCs), so I'm expecting people to choose classes that can make up the difference. Ideally, I'd like to have enough Exalted feat choices that most classes aren't suffering from severe diminishing returns as play progresses.

Does something like this exist?

*I can actually handle this part on my own. The feat options are where I foresee benefiting most from someone else's work.

Ya know, I just saw a thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?414537-the-quick-and-really-dirty-fix-of-VoP) about this...

I suggest forgetting about the current bonuses, and instead grant a pseudo-WBL which can only be used on pseudo-gear. Like, if you have 10k, you can ``buy'' 10k in ``gear.'' Essentially it restricts what you can buy strictly to equipment, but makes it so that it can't be stolen/dispelled/whatever.

Also, change bonus exalted feats to bonus any-feat-you-qualify-for.

Hmm, that might make it too good...

If you're going the pseudo-WBL route, I suggest 1/2 WBL is a good place to start, and then adjust from there. Considering it's "indestructible gear", I'd make VoP that alone, no other benefits.

The thing about this feat is that it was never supposed to be a really really good feat, at least I don't think. Just a feat that would make ascetic characters viable instead of a burden. It should be used for flavor, not power. (It can still be used to screw the players by having them face a boss that has no loot )

Yeah, I don't really want to go the pseudo-WBL route. I once saw someone (maybe Talya) claim that all that was really needed to fix VoP was better exalted feats, and I've been curious ever since. I'm really looking for a nice list of brewed exalted feats, but my google-fu is coming up empty.

Allow me to recommend Mephibosheth's exclusive line of exalted feats (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?164659-3-5-Exalted-Feats-for-Everyone!), which is my go-to resource when I absolutely, positively need an exalted feat that's actually useful.

That's brilliant!

I mean, normal people can't take exalted feats (assuming your dm makes you roleplay it). So while exalted feats aren't VoP-specific, they wouldn't be available to just anyone. Or maybe you could make exalted feats which have a pre-req of VoP. Then you can just look at what VoP is missing, like flight and stuff.

I think Kenneth's (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=12433473&postcount=15) is the best VoP fix in existence. its a pity in my eye that it don't see as much support as Drolyts

I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I started working on it myself. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?414983-Exalted-Feat-Revamp-Yes-including-Vow-of-Poverty-%28WIP%29) If anyone has any ideas, I'd be happy to see them over there.

Seconding this suggestion. It's simple and it's effective. It also ignores alignment, and I've always like the concept of an evil character with a vow of poverty, who instead of handing away the wealth they come across, chooses to destroy it out of spite.

I've always like this remix by TempestFury (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?335794-Vow-of-Poverty-Remix), which gives VoP characters some flexibility. Esp. if you might have a few PCs in a party taking the vow, it's possible that the cleric with VOP might have different needs from a rogue or a fighter with VoP.

Each day you meditate for points equivalent to your ECL, which can be spent on various bonuses. E.g. one points gets you bonuses like:

+4 Force armor, plus another (ECL-2)/4) at higher levels.
ECL/3 (min +2) resistance bonus on saves
fortification of 5% per ECL (min 25%) resistance to critical hits.
+3 bonuses to hide and move silently or at-will invisibility.

Check out the post for more.

The PC can choose whatever mix of bonuses suits their particular character, abilities, needs. And they might be able to adjust them for particular circumstances.

Though some better exalted gets might be nice, too.
