Why is Rich Burlew "The Giant"?

After 9 years it just occurred to me to ask , and I'm curious. Is there any particular reason or history behind the handle? Any particular reason why he wishes to be called "The Giant" ? I grant it sounds more euphonious than "the medium sized humanoid", but that's probably not the reason he chose it.
