I want to play a character with a similar feel to the protagonist of the Witcher games. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? I'm thinking some sort of Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster will do the trick.

I have never played the game so I could only read articles about it, but a few things you might look at:

Herbalism and Alchemy fan-made supplement: This is an extremely well done fan supplement for 5e that your DM might let you use: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7CIGCMCtoETbEhVTy0zSnFJNEE/view?pli=1

How about the Pact of the Blade warlock? It's the closest thing to the old Hexblade class we have.

That is somewhat helpful. Home brew seems like the best option right now.

The second one is very fun and incredibly challenging. The first one is really bad but provides background to the second. The third one will be coming out very soon so we will see. I highly suggest giving them a go if you enjoy video game RPGs.

I did see a few suggestions for Warlock in that other thread. I can see how that would work. 3.5 would be so much easier to make it work with the sheer volume of material available.
