I noticed that in the SRD it states that bronze dragons hate to harm animals; what do they eat to keep up their (huge) biomass?

Partly a musing thread.

Like every dragon, anything they please, rocks if it comes to that.

They dropped some of the data from the MM, which I think mentions that they eat sharks.

Draconomicon goes into more detail - may possibly mention that they eat sahaugin too, despite those being intelligent beings - due to massive enmity.

To got into more detail the draconomicon says they eat aquatic plants, some sea food notably shark meat and occasionaly, pearls.

Still, it's a cultural thing, any true dragons can survive by eating pretty much anything.

This may finally explain why chromatic dragons are so evil.

As has been mentioned, all true dragons are TRULY omnivorous, in that they can survive on anything, even ore/stones/metal.

Bronze dragons PREFERRED food is seafood (evil aquatic beings like sahuagin and krakens as well as aquatic predators like sharks) and pearls are a particular delicacy for them.

They may hate to harm animals indiscriminately or accidentally, but they do have to eat. That line probably means they hate to harm animals outside of hunting.

They like to fight, though, especially for Good causes (and may join armies of such causes), so clearly humanoids don't qualify as "animals".

No wonder red dragons eat virgins. I would too if my diet primarily consisted of red.

I laughed much harder at this than I should have. I'm a legal adult in two months, I probably need to be better than that. Not that I particularly want to be, mind you.

Would also mean that white dragons would probably prefer horses or cows to actual humanoids.

(Unless that humanoid has access to certain third party material...)

Don't be absurd. Prismatic Dragons eat prisms.

Don't be absurd. Prismatic Dragons eat prisms.

This fact is the reason why Pink Floyd never took off in most campaign settings. Nobody can buy The Dark Side of the Moon

Bronze dragons eat only other bronze dragons. They then give birth to a bronze dragon a while later (they're hermaphrodites).

I like the word they came up with in Schlock Mercenary, to describe Sgt. Schlock: He's a mundivore. Devourer of the World, to translate it a bit poetically.

So...Urban dwelling Brown Dragons living in the sewers grow to tremendous size?

Sounds like my players just got their next BBEG (Big Brown Excrement Guy).

What "adult" means?

On a related note, you just made me feel old.

There are yellow dragons(Drag Compendium)... orange if you have kidney problems or are dehydrated.

The question has already been answered, but I keep picturing one just swimming through the sea mouth opened wide, a straining flap descending from the roof of their mouth to catch plankton as the water passes through their respiratory system. Then it rises up from the sea, a majestic eruption from the sea, and it drops all the shrimp and plankton into its gullet, before diving back down for a second sweep.

I mean the ocean does have the one group of dragon sized creatures on the planet and they subsist primarily on small shrimp and plankton (which is also technically animals for the most part but we rarely think of it that way).
