Chaos in the Old world

The streets of Talagaad are packed. Filthy refugees clustered under the eaves of the houses as they are whipped out of the way by the merchants pushing through the dirty streets of the Jakes. The rain pours down in the autumn grey skies as smoke and the sounds of badly sung music leak out of the solid wooden frames of the Hammer of Sigmar. A drab inn in the scummier part of town where many of you have been sent recently to do the bidding of your masters. As the evening draws slowly in you await with some trepidation the arrival of a senior member of the gang you've been associated with....

I hate this place.

It was a word she was using a lot lately, Hate. She never knew how much she could hate things until her world had changed. Oh sure, she thought she hated the misery of Silvania... but somehow even that life seemed a dull, distant roar compared to the hatreds she was feeling lately. The hate she felt when some smug merchant was waved through her patrol area flashed her a cocky, self assured smile. The hate she felt when someone escaped her patrols and went to hide somewhere in the wooded banks of the Talabec River. And here she was, in a den of filth, criminals and con men that she should have put to the flame if given half the chance. Oh and she would relish seeing this place, this entire neighborhood put to the flame. She would eagerly man the quarantine blockade if it came to pass, utterly destroying any of the little human rats that tried to scurry away from their end.

And these thoughts built up a clear "**** off and die" tension to Rosebella as she sat in the Hammer of Sigmar. There was no hiding that rage that was simmering underneath. They way her hand never was too far from the club she kept on her belt, the tension in her shoulders and neck, the clench of her jaw, and the whites of her knuckles as she curled her hands into tight fists. Someone would have to be pretty brave, or pretty stupid, to mess with her and the clear body language of just looking for an excuse to rip someone's head off... maybe even literally.

There was just one thing that stopped her from doing it. It wasn't the fact that if she did cause trouble here she might get swarmed with numbers. In the Riverwardens you were used to the idea of long odds after all, and she was sure most of the cowards wouldn't want anything to do with her, taking a chance to run rather than fight. No. It wasn't that. It was all her sister.

... she loved her, that was true. One of the few things she did love. And she knew she was stuck here because of her. Not that she resented her for it. Merely the rage from the twist of fate that meant her sister would die for a pointless, stupid reason. A mutant, nothing she really did, other than defend herself. But someone would put her to flame nonetheless for it.

So she needed money. More money than her paltry job as the defender of Truth, Justice, and the Imperial Way on the Waterways would ever get her. Money was a universal power, deeper than magic, deeper than a strong swordarm, even Rosebella knew it. Those who had money could rewrite the rules, become Nobles by the shine of their Karls, more or less. She was a big foggy on the details but those with the shine of gold in their pocket did certainly seem to live in a completely different world from her.

Money. And that's why she was here. She had no real loyalty to the criminals she was contacting. Sure some people in the Riverwardens vouched for them, and she trusted those men and women as you had to trust anyone who fought, bled, and killed alongside you... but that didn't mean that trust extended to these people.

These were the people that she ached to kill on the river, after all. Smugglers, cutthroats, pirates, one and all in her mind.

But despite their looks, they had money. And in the end, that's what mattered today.

Rosebella was here to pick up a payment and drop off some information. Another smuggler boat they had run aground (After properly executing and disposing of the body). She was told to meet someone here, drop off the information, get a response, and go back with the coin and information. Seemed simple enough. It was her turn to do it after all, rotating those who visited the Black Hand so no watchman or Veneran would notice the same person making regular and unusual trips.

It didn't mean she liked the visit. It didn't mean she was eager to get out of here, and back to the camaraderie and simple life with her fellow Riverwardens. Where was that man? How long was he going to keep her waiting?

I hate this place.

Jamdak Urgrimson - Dwarf Troll Slayer (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=19287354&postcount=2)

http://i.imgur.com/t0Az7Wl.jpg
Jamdak is tall for a dwarf, but still short and stocky compared to the average human. He has powerfully muscled arms and chest and his shoulders and chest are covered with old tattoos.

He shaved the sides of his head in the Slayer fashion but has been inconsistent in keeping it dyed orange. Both beard and hair show streaks of black.

His few possessions are well tended and his greataxe gleams with care.
Jamdak exits the sewers via a riverside access, out of sight of the streets and currently out of sight of any boats; with the vanishing daylight, any ships are either moored or well on their way. He checks once again that the book is secure in his bag and begins walking toward the meeting place. The drizzling rain begins to fall harder. Good, he thinks, that'll help take care of the sewer filth.

Heavy raindrops quickly soak his ragged cloak, but he tugs is closer trying to keep warm - no sense dying to a coughing disease. He trudges along the packed streets and finds he doesn't have to shoulder his way past people too much; the wary locals and tired refugees instinctively draw away from him. Maybe dwarfs are uncommon in Talagaad, but it most likely has to do with his dour look and the greataxe he carries propped on his right shoulder.

Making his way through the Jakes he finally finds the meeting place, The Hammer of Sigmar, a dingy wooden sign bearing a warhammer discolored from years of rain and rot swinging in the wind over a lit entrance. Warm air and bad music waft out of it.

The dwarf steps in and there's hardly a lull in the conversation. He certainly draws some stares, but this is a place filled with thugs and rakes and they all know to keep to their own business. He is prepared to deal with those who don't. He makes his way to the bar and orders an ale; he'll drink lightly tonight since there is business at hand. A wry smile finds its way to his lips as he thinks of what's to come. The man from the Black Hand had said he would be compensated for his efforts. More importantly, he said his efforts were greatly appreciated by those higher up in the brotherhood. It felt good to be wanted.

So now he leans back, facing the crowd, feeling the alcohol warming him against the chill of the rain and eagerly anticipating how this new life will unfold.

Alexis von Lindenbach

Alexis feels ill at ease, this is no place for someone like her. She should be at the center of a grand hall, not in a disgusting place like this, filled with commoners. She is well aware of her appearance, she wears terrible clothes, not fit for someone like her, and a hood, she doesn't want her face to be seen. She wonders why she was called here. She has connections with gangs, mostly to ensure her own rise, and to let those who look down on her fall. Oh, she dreams of it every night. If only she would not suffer if she slit their throats in their sleep. Not that she had ever harmed anyone, but still, a girl could dream.

She tries to keep her distance, but then she notices something peculiar, a dwarf. Those are a rarity in this town, and this one looks like one of those slayers she was warned about. Definately someone to keep her distance from, especially when she notices the great axe.

The place is frightening, all these terrible, uncivilized people, it almost makes her sick.

Neither Rosabella or Alexis draw much notice amidst the crowds. The same cannot be said of Jamdak, the burly dwarf getting a wide berth from the rougher patrons and a few appraising glances from more criminal types. The lute playing slattern warbles on fir a few more minutes, enough time for you to finish a tankard of rough bitter before a rickety door obscured by the heavy wood smoke opens and rough looking man you've seen before - a midlander named Hans who is handy with spiked cudgel at his waist. He nods to you all and summons you through to the back room.

The backroom is almost as large as the taproom, although the pit of bloody sand in the corner is empty this evening as there are no dog, ferret or rooster fights planned. In the backroom flanked by a couple of rough looking toughs with chain coats and blades at their waist is a cloaked and shadowed figure. The glint of gold upon his fingers from the multiple rings. The toughs wave you to a stop as the figure speaks in a particular melodious voice. "You've all proven useful in recent months. I have a request for you. In Harfefahre there is a merchant who has fallen behind significantly on his payments. That cannot be tolerated. He must be taught a lesson, but a subtle one." He gestures to a small box on a side table. "Please deliver this to him and ensure that he opens it. Miss Rosabella your boat should be sufficient to carry you and your miss Alexis, I'm sure you can come up with some papers yo make the package look official. Return when you have done as I asked".

Feh, 'subtle' lesson. Rosebella's fingers itched as she thought of how a merchant should properly be handled, with broken bones and the fear of the LAW put into them. It was bound to get the a lot further, and be a lot easier than messing around with whatever that little box was. Still, the job sounded easy enough, "So what's the pay?" Rosebella asked right off the bat. She wasn't doing this for charity after all, she had her expenses. She stood there waiting for an answer, tense yes, but it wasn't a fear based tension. Wary to be certain however, after all, there were armed thugs at the door, and one in front of her. She didn't want a fight, no reason to. But between the smell of animal blood in the air, and the armed men around her, she was definitely on edge.

Her eyes glanced over towards the Dorf, she understood why she was here, after all, she had the transport and the skill to run the Talabec. Apparently Alexis, by appearance and suggestion was some sevant or valet of Our Betters... ug the very thought made her sick... who could get entry. And supposedly this was a 'subtle' mission, so why the Dorf? In case things went violent? Didn't trust her to go bash skulls in and shoot her way out of whatever trouble pops up? She doubted the stocky looking Dorf would do anything but sink like a stone if they ran across river raiders on the way out. Definitely an odd thumb sticking out here. Probably meat to be the fall guy in case things went wrong. Yeah that had to be it. Dorfs were crazy anyway and Rosebella wouldn't mind seeing one taking a shot rather than hers.

From the look of her face, anyone could tell that Jarla is unhappy to be here at the Hammer of Sigmar. It is not the discrepant status of her surroundings, no, she spent most of her life in a farm or in the pits. What she truly despises is being beholden for reasons such as status or ranking. The only people she ever knew that earned her respect were her family and they are all dead. She sees no reason to trust the Black Hand but she has no choice; she no longer has a home.

When she enters the background, she looks over the guards. The thought passes through whether or not she could crush them in an even fight. People tell her often that she is a remarkable warrior, at least when they scream over her victories in the pit. Oh and they lauded her for the brutality in her strikes as she pummeled her enemies into little more than a collection of visceral. Her face turns to a crooked smile when the thugs tell her to stop but she does not make any more moves.

After she hears the assignment, her tilts her head; sending her on a subtle mission appeared to be a waste of her talents. She attempts to delve into the man's mind, or at least his thoughts, to see if he is hiding anything. Regardless, she cracks her neck and looks at the others. "And who receives the pleasure of carrying the box?"

Alexis looks at her companions, feeling worse and worse. She knows that she will have to do this, but it will be difficult. The others are clearly ruffians, uncivilized or worse. And the dwarf, everything about him frightens her. He looks far too violent for any sort of subtlety, and she wonders if any of the others can even write their own names. Inwardly she sighs, but outwardly she keeps a smile on her face. "This merchant, do you by any chance have more information about him?", she speaks softly, perhaps even a little hard to hear, but her accent is clear enough, she is no commoner, "Such as a name, his area of expertise, address and such things?"

When the door opens and Hans signals him to follow Jamdak finishes his tankard and sets it down. Picking up his greataxe, he crosses the hall and goes through the door.

He can't help but look the others over as they stand before whoever is running this show. The waves of mistrust and revulsion toward him are almost palpable; but he has become inured to it. What matters is that he performs as is asked and pleases the Black Hand. He doesn't know any of these new people and owes them nothing.

He listens attentively to what the shadowed figure asks of them and nods agreement. Jamdak knows his own limitations when it comes to subtlety and surmises that is why the others are there. As for himself? Keep out of the way until some skulls need to be cracked.

His train of thought is interrupted when the women start asking questions. Smart questions. He pays attention and keeps his mouth shut.

Constance hurried through the streets of Talagaad, cloak pulled tight around her shoulders as she tried to shut out the rain. She'd been hoping to have time to sit and talk to her sister but that looked unlikely now. Turning the corner onto the seedy street that held the Hammer of Sigmar, she gave some of the men outside a timid smile. She'd worked here before, she realized; quite often in fact.

Constance entered the inn late, almost late enough to miss Hans and the others. Pushing her way through the patrons, apologizing and explaining that she was busy to more than a few patrons, she made it to the back room just in time. Standing behind her sister, she listened to the proceedings silently, her curious gaze wandering to the dwarf. A dwarf. Huh. She hadn't seen one in Talagaad yet, but she'd heard they were supposed to be a reliable, if serious lot.

The man looks around the room before focusing back upon the quiet voice of Alexis. "Its nice to see one of you has the sense to ask for some more details before blindly agreeing. You'll each be paid 10 crowns for the work. The merchant is Dieter Schmidt, he deals in lumber mainly but also will supply lots of other things tucked in the logs if one pays enough. His house is on the village square beside the smiths workshop."

He looks about for any other queries before speaking again this time with a much more strident tone. "He is not to die. Even if you end up slaughtering his family and his retainers he must not be killed! He must open the box and reap the penalty for his failure."

Otto leaned against the wall in the back, listening to the newly gathered group ask questions in between staring at the dwarf. He had been in the room already, so to the others he probably looked for all the world like one of the regulars, but he had already been informed he would be earning his way with this group of harpies. The women all had reputations in the bar, to varying degrees, with two of them eager for violence. He had heard a bit about the dwarf, but what else did you need to know about them crazy slayers? The drink, they kill, they rarely chat. 'Nuff said.

He had arrived in town some months back and had quickly earned a place with the group, learning that his own particular brand of skills were in high demand. He had roughed up a number of people, putting some in the infirmery and one or two in the grave, but this was the first time that he had seen a gift sent as punishment. With a rumble, Otto grunted from the wall, "Wot's in the box, eh?"

When the others turned, they would see a large man, leaning against the shadowed wall, his nose crooked from some previous altercation. A mace hung at his waist, and a halberd was leaned nearby.

Figure this is an easy way to intro Otto and keep pace with the game - let me know if that's too much DrK.

There was a subtle shifting of Rosebella's stance as her sister entered the room, as if to keep her body between her sister and the possibly unstable reactions of the Dorf or the Vengeful one, her stance still tensed up, but it was clear it wasn't an aggressive stance, but defensive in nature in its readiness. Her eyes shifted backwards towards Constance, "Thought you were staying out of this one," she whispered softly to her sister so her voice wouldn't carry too far.

The nature of their orders, free fire being given to anyone and everyone EXCEPT the merchant, made the back of her mind tingle. If that was the case whatever was in that box was considered worth than death. Maybe some cursed widget that would infect him with super plague. Or some magic item that would make him suffer a similar fate worse than death. He doubted it was about getting the man to work for them again, people tended not to work for you after you killed everyone they knew and cared for after all. So it wasn't about intimidation, it was about revenge.

Meaning she wasn't volunteering for carrying that box. Let the dorf do it. Or Jarla. Either sounded better.

Well, the pay is good enough. Job seems simple enough.

"He won't be killed," Jamdak breaks his silence; a deep bass voice in measured tones. "He might be harmed during the job, though. What does your Herr Schmidt look like? Don't want to deliver the box to the wrong person."

After a moment he adds. "Who do we say we're looking for when we return here?"

Constance leaned towards her sister, her voice lowered but still louder than her sisters. "I was goin' t', but I couldn' help m'self. She gave Rosebella a warm smile, " 'sides, I figure i'll be more intresin' than th' dancin'."

As she spoke her eyes flicked nervously between her sister and Alexis as her cheeks reddened. She'd never been so close to someone clearly noble before and, while she was no longer embarrassed about the way she spoke around common folk the other woman made her self-conscious. What if someone asked her to write something in front of her? She couldn't even write her name!

Jarla lets out an impatient sigh; these people were going to annoy her. One of them appears to be of higher status, the type of harlot that is rarely exposed to the true pangs of the world. The two sisters squabble, one of them too focused on the other one's protection. And what did the dancer offer? She appears to be an actual harlot. The dwarf would ruin any chance of subtlety if they wished to pursue that route. And, from rumors she had heard, his sort tended to be unstable. In her eyes, her rage is a controlled one, a torch that can be ignited and cooled at a moment's notice.

Perhaps they are right to ask so many questions. But the amount she dislikes hearing them squabble weighs more heavily than the need for information.

"This sounds like a simple enough job," the pit fighter notes as she starts to stretch. There is a loud crack when she adjusts her head with her palms. "Since no one volunteered, I will carry the box." Jarla steps forward and sees if the thugs will let her pass. Assuming they do, she grabs onto it and stashes it into her bag.

The hooded figure nods in approval as Jarla grabs the box. It feels slightly warm to her hands and there is a faint sense of unease, like Morr's touch upon giving a shiver. The master looks up, "When the deed is done return here and tell Greta behind the bar that Master Schmidt's package was delivered." He looks about at you all before leaving moments later through a small concealed door at the back of the chamber. The lone bouncer drops a bag with a few shillings on the table and nods a head towards the door. "Get yourself a few ales. Cause no trouble. we don't the proper watch coming down upon the Inn."

Jamdak steps forward, taking a wrapped package from his pack and places it on the table. "See that Hans gets that, manling," he says to the bouncer in what approaches a friendly tone. "He'll be expecting it." He then grabs a few coins and heads for the bar, thoughts of wonderful - if watery by dwarf standards - ale dancing through his mind.

He only takes a few steps to the door before turning and facing the group. "We might as well talk business and figure a way to this Herr Schmidt's place." He then adds his name, almost as an afterthought. "I am called Jamdak."

Jarla feels the box in her hands and even more hastily stores it away. She knows not what foul thing lies inside but she wishes to be rid of it as quickly as possible. "Drinking ale can come after we finish the job," the pit fighter tells the dwarf, though she is unsure how his kind would react to such a proposition. "No need to prematurely celebrate and dull our senses." Once more she is unsure of exactly how dwarves react to alcohol. She almost wants to guess that they become more focused instead of less while drunk.

Regardless if her request is heeded or not, she agrees to discuss the job. "We are told that we can slay his entire family but also to not cause any trouble. This assignment doesn't sit well with me." She taps her foot impatiently, still yearning to dump off the wretched box. "Over in the pits they call me Vengeful Jarla, in case you didn't know."

Theodora had joined the rag tag group that the blackhand had assembled at the tavern with very little fan fair. Her robes were well worn from the road that she had travelled and she wore a wolfs pelt over her shoulders to keep the cold at bay, at her waist hung what looked like a mix between a cleaver and a sword a broad bladed weapon to be sure.

As the other discussed their errand she mutter replies and responses to herself "hush now I want to hear what they are saying. No no I'm not sure why they won't tell us what's in the box. We'll I've never been a party of something like this now have I brother."

Jamdak begins to respond to Jarla, but is cut short by the stream of words coming from Constance. When she pats him on the head, he turns to face her, gritting his teeth and fury obvious on his eyes. A little human girl with an accent so thick a dwarf has trouble understanding dares pet him, a Slayer, like some kind of household animal without even pausing for breath?

Then the absurdity of it becomes too much and the dwarf starts laughing hard, guffawing and nearly doubling himself over. "Aye, there is enough for one or two ales apiece, girlie!" he says with a wide smile. "Besides, Jarla, I do not think we'll be carrying out our task tonight. We need to plan properly."

He then becomes more serious as another woman begins talking, both to them and to herself. "I believe it won't be as simple as it seems at first. If we drop the box off or simply deliver it, there's no guarantee Schmidt will open it at once; it might sit on a desk forever; worse, he might get an assistant to open it for him. Getting an audience won't be simple and killing everyone, as lovely as it sounds, should be the last resort as it'll draw unwanted attention."

When they were dismissed, Otto waited as the others filed out and followed them, nodding to the rest of the thugs gathered. He listened as the group introduced themselves, almost smirking as the woman almost lost her hand for patting the dwarf on his head. As they tried to figure out whether a drink was wise, he simple introduced himself with a low rumble. "They calls me Otto." Then he waited to see where this lot was headed ... to a table or out the door.

I'm not sure where Otto is headed Chaos wise. I see Sergeant or Outlaw in his future, then from there something equally nasty (like Captain or J. Champion). As it stands, he seems much more Khorne than anything, but I could see Nurgle ...

His fall from 'grace' will probably be centered around gaining power - power enough to do what he wants when he wants ... and not have to answer to anyone for it.

Alexis feels utterly disgusted by her companions, some of them she can hardly understand. Why can't people simply be civilized? "Even then it might be suspicious to him, especially if he is aware that he has made enemies. No, a more certain approach must be taken. One where we know that there will be success. We must know more about this man. Find out if he has a lover, dear friends, bussiness associates, any such thing. And a sample of their handwriting, if they can write, would also be most helpful. Constance sat by her sister, cradling an empty mug in her hands. She had to admit Alexis' idea sounded pretty smart, if significantly more complicated. How would they find out if Herr Schmidt had a mistress? And what if they were caught sneaking it in? Maybe it would be better if someone got to know him and gave it to him as a gift. Most of the group seemed martially inclined, but Alexis or herself might be able to do it.

"I-I 'ave 'n idea, I thin'." she stuttered nervously. "I'd ta'e s'm time, bu' i' one o' us go' t' know 'im, we cu' 'and i' t' 'im as a gif. 'Ave 'im op'n i' ri' in frun' us, s'we know f' sur'."

"Heh," the dwarf snorts. "Look around you, do you honestly think anyone could pass as a merchant? We can easily pass as bodyguards, but that seems to be it".

The dwarf stops to consider the offered ideas for a moment. "Unless we take the time to learn more about this manling and draw a plan to trick him into opening it, we should just sneak into his house and force him to open it."

He pauses to take a swig of ale. "If you're still set on being tricky, someone could approach him and hire him to transport the box in his logs. If we don't have the money to keep him from asking questions, he might be tricked into opening the box to make sure it's not something that'll come back to bite him on the ass. Or maybe just appeal to his curiosity."

A shadow then crosses his eyes. "I, however, suggest the first course of action. It's simpler and easier to control. Making him open the box will be easy... I find that axe to the neck is a great incentive."

"Violence?" Jamdak repeats absentmindedly; his tone of voice friendly but firm. "So it is, but it's what we have the most of. A Slayer, a Pit Fighter, a Riverwarden with what appears to be a very well-used club and the big fella over there," he says pointing a finger at Otto. "Then there's you, the girlie and Theodora... You are the best educated and best fit for it, but don't want to pass for a merchant; the girlie won't do and if Theodora decides to have another conversation with Phillip while talking to Schmidt it'll all fall apart."

Jamdak shrugs his shoulders in a noncommittal way. "I'd rather avoid drawing the guard as well - dying in a cesspit like Harfefahre is no fit death for me. Whatever we do, we must make sure that he opens the box. That's all that matters; he lives and opens the box."

"I could perhaps arrange a meeting between him and you, if I would know a little more about his work and interests. This would be set up in a quiet place, and those amongst us with the right talents for such a thing could attend it, one of them dressed as the contact. When he goes in, they snatch him, and force him to open the box.", naturally, Alexis herself would remain at a safe distance, far away from any potential threat that might arise.

Otto listened to the ensuing discussion, simpering, and outright arguments. He nodded somewhat at the dwarf's comments, smirking when the short warrior pointed at him, but he said little. This was getting ridiculous, but he had little desire to get into a war of words with anyone. Instead, he nodded towards the doors as darkness fell. "Hand'll be watchin' this ... if we can't agree, best leave." He looked knowingly at a few of the bouncers who kept shooting them looks periodically, well aware that the Black Hand didn't leave much to chance, or rookies.

Jarla lets out a grunt when her partners refuse to give up the allure of a couple drinks. Still, she is awfully surprised at how coherent the dwarf is. She expected him to be a mindless oaf, ready to slay whatever is in his path, as per his title. Still, she had never met one of his kind before, so she did not dwell on her preconceptions for too long. "We should go visit him and see how many guards he has on hand," she throws out before motioning them to the door. "If he is outmatched then the dwarf's idea will be simple. We walk in, kill his family, and then tell him to open the box unless he wants to die too. If that plan does not appear to be feasible, we can follow the elegant lady's suggestion." The pit fighter gives a slight bow to Alexis as a form of mockery.

The dwarf upends his stein, draining it in deep, thirsty gulps and wipes his lips with the back of his hand. He then glances at Jarla and Rosabella, a serious look in his eyes. Determination is obvious by his bearing and tone of voice.

"If this is our plan, this is our plan." Jamdak rumbles with some finality. "Rosabella, if your boat can ferry us all and you feel confident in doing this at night, let us not dawdle and go. My axe is sharp and I am ready."

The newly found comrades in arms troop down towards the river where the small longboat is pulled up hard against the bank. Slipping into the rowboat Rosabella mans the oars sliding off the dock and into the fast flowing Talbec, a lantern flickering and lighting the way ahead. The lantern gives a small circle of light although Rosabella knows that its only ~10 miles around the river with the current helping to reach the small village of Harferfahre - possibly a 2 hour row with the brisk current.

An hour into the row the world is quiet save for the creak of the oarlocks, the splash of the current and the whisper of the wind in the heavy forests either side of the river. But its Otto and Jarla's sharp eyes that catch sight of the faint flickering of flames some 100 yards into the forest, a few shadowed shapes around a fire!

Intiate Theodora

Theodora was biting her nails absent mindedly while they moved down the river. He time at the temple of Shallya was spent in prayer and study and so she was not the quickest to grasp danger but she agreed that they had no reason to divert from their course. Her time there was ill spent it though as they weren' t not able to cure her of the burden of Phillip. Her mind was split at times and she had hoped that the priestess at the temple would be able to help her but Phillip had only grown louder during her time there for some reason.

We, I, agree with the dwarf. They aren't causing us any trouble so it's best if we just let sleeping dogs lie so to speak.

At that Theodora mutters a prayer of protection to Shallya as well as a prayer of repentance for what might come of this venture. She had tried to be faithful but in order to move forward towards silencing Phillip she needed this group.

He wasn't too worried that the one called Jarla couldn't handle herself - he figured if she were half as competent as she looked and acted, she would be an asset; however, the other woman was beginning to grate on him. Theodora flinched a little as Constance made the offer to the guards. While she had been secluded in the temple she had assisted the preistesses offer help to those whom had been consumed by carnal lust and selfish desire. She had seen how the men had looked at her as she moved through the hospital ward. The priestesses of Shallya were pious however many prefered to fantasize about the healing "touch" of a young Shallyian preistess. To this day it had made her skin crawl. Again although she was no longer with the temple she could not bring her self to go along with Constances play.

Gentlemen blessings of the goddess upon you. As my friend said we're on an errand for our employer and the sooner we finish the sooner we can take on the next act of service. As Theodora listened to Constance she remembered the many women that had come to the temple in search of healing for "ailments" after offering their bodies up as currency. While she was no longer at the temple and though she did not officially belong to the order she could not let Constance proceed.

As you can see our employer has hired protection for us as well but while we have protection to be sure we aren't here to cause any trouble for you or your village and are looking to move on ahead to our destination.

Theodora- Initiate of Shallya

As the dwarf hands over the silver Theodora feels a pang of guilt. She had been raised that Shallya demands selflessness and generosity. That she was not the first to step forward and offer tugged at her. Her teachers would have been cross indeed. My funds are limited but I can pay you for your kindness as well as for two others of our company. I have not seen much of the world but it is a harsh and unforgiving place from what I have seen outside the temple walls. Kindness should be rewarded. As she hands the coins over Jamdak would notice a slight wincing from Theodora, the effort to shut Phillip up as she gives away money is a little taxing. "Phillip wants you to know that he's very cross with what I just did and that you should watch your back if he ever gets a chance. He's all talk though my brother Phillip. You look very capable with a blade Jamdak when our job is over perhaps you could help instruct me. I am only recently released from the Temple of Shallya and as I said the world is a harsh place. Creeping down the narrow alley under the cover of the sticking out roofs Theodora can make out a small gate leading into a walled garden. Peeking over the the top of the gate she can see the manicured garden at the back of the house. A set of bushes, a small pond with he splash of fish and a secure looking wooden door and shuttered windows dominate the back of the house.

Upon hearing the news from Theodora, the Dwarf is somewhat put at ease. There should be enough cover in a garden and grass muffles the sound of boot. Servants forget to lock doors to secure areas. Could be a stroke of good luck, finally.

Jamdak steps up to the gate. He looks around, making sure no one is coming and places his back against the wall. He locks his fingers together, ready to help the others up the wall, and motions for them to approach.

"Quickly now! We don't have all night for this," he whispers in the dark.

So help me though Jamdek if you look up this robe your going to have something to answer for later. With that she hikes up her robe a little to get her foot into Jamdeks palm and gives a little hop to get momentum going. The two of them sway for a couple of moments until they find their balance and Theodora can have a proper look. She braces herself and then peers over the ledge seeing if there is anyone nearby that could possibly see them as they approached. Alright let's see what we can see

Not sure if I need to make another perception roll but if I need to just let me know and I'll roll it

Otto followed the group past the guards, glancing back to see how much they were paying attention to the group. He smirked at the 'touching' moment Theodora and the slayer shared, shaking his head slightly. Once they got to the garden, he crouched down with the others, watching as everyone huddled in and Jamdak began listing the order they would slip over the wall. Frowning, he glanced back in the direction Theodora had gone, then back to the others, whispering "Why don't we use that?" pointing at the gate. "If it's locked, mebbe she can open it from the other side ..."

Seemed odd to have an entire group of people trying to stealthily climb over a wall instead of just using the nearby entrance ...

Theodora can see nothing else of note as she crests the wall and drops onto the soft gravel path. The gate on this side just has a stout bolt on it that she can open easily. Glancing around she hears a noise and peering up at the 1st floor she can hear the clink of glass and the low gruff voices of men speaking and a whisper of light leaking out from behind the shuttered window.

The door at the back of the house and the shutters on the ground floor are all closed up tight but she still cannot hear anything beyond them.

(OOC - Sorry about that ... I seem to have forgotten to post! I wonder if the lady will survive the dwarven Cuisinart ...

Otto moved forward, ready to attack the woman if necessary, but with the ferocity the dwarf attacked, he wasn't sure how she could avoid the grim reaper. Instead, he decided to take his fight to the merchant. The man couldn't attack without a weapon, could he?

I don't have my books and such, but is there a disarm maneuver available to just anyone? If so, how do I go about doing that?

If not, I suppose Otto could just aim and attempt a more 'organic' disarming maneuver ...

Theodora feels the breeze of Jamdak's axe as he swings it at the cultist, the cloth on her skin and the pounding over her heart. She had not landed a single blow yet Jamdak was much more skilled than she and Theodora gets a feeling of satisfaction the he had agreed to teach her about fighting. She had apparently chosen well. Get her Jamdak! Your in for it now sweet this dwarfs going to carve you apart!

the battle at the top of the stairs intensifies as Jamdak swings the axe about his head with lethal efficiency. The battle trained half naked witch ducks the first blow, the second catching her in the face leaving a massive bleeding scar down her cheek and jaw. She hisses a curse in rage, then Theordora steps forward a dagger glancing along a rib but leaing only the smalles scratch. The woman howls in return For the Heldenhammer!" the flail lashing at the dwarf.

All out attack on Jamdak [roll0] TN 54 dam [roll1]

For Otto the man dances back, light on his feet lashing out at Otto after the failed attemt to disarm him as despite Otto grabbing his arms the man managed to slide out, sword thrusting at Otto's chest.

Alexis looks on, aghast. Things might go very wrong, and she will be recognized, so she will have to flee. But that means losing everything. And she can't fight, she has never in her whole life used a weapon, and these are warriors!

Cursing again as the woman dodges under his first blow, the dwarf takes the flail hit to his side in stride - he can certainly handle the punishment, but the constant dodging and weaving is beginning to annoy him. Why must manlings be so fast and delicate?

Annoyed, Jamdak swings his greataxe in a figure of eight pattern before him, slashing at the woman.

With the priestess' time in this world over, Otto grinned and moved to attack again, trying to grab the man as best he could. He had almost lost his head on that last attack, so perhaps their luck was changing ...

Okay, grappling again ... if Otto can aim, he'll do that. And at this point, I think we outnumber the merchant (three to one?)

[roll0] vs TN 38 + Aim (if possible) + outnumbered (3 to 1?). Again, I don't have my ebooks, but I'm sure someone will have the appropriate adds

EDIT: Hunh, whaddya know ...

Blood explodes everywere as the naked top half of the priestess is hurled backwards, legs and intestines pouring down the stairs like a grotesque and vile waterfall of gore.

Could all the players aside from Otto please make very easy (+30) agility tests of fall prone on the tide of gore

Otto grabs at the man who dances back out of reach before he turns and flees through the nearest doorway. The door slamming shut behind him as he is clearly rattled by the brutal and horrific dismemberment of the woman!

He withdraws and closes (but not locks) the door

"Well then, I overestimated her," Jarla mutters as she walks up the stairs. Her boots slide off the gore but she manages to remain standing. "Oi, Mister... shoot I forgot his name. Don't make this more difficult than it has to be."

Otto growled, frustrated by the man's elusiveness. "If this man's a merchant, then I'm the Emperor's handmaiden ..." Moving forward quickly so that he didn't escape further, Otto reached for the door and opened it.

"Knock, knock, bastard ..."

Not sure if Otto can make another attack or spends his time moving forward and opening the door ...

The dwarf's mighty swing cleaves the bare-chested woman from rib to hip, separating her body in a torrent of blood and entrails. He revels in the carnage, unconsciously finding fulfillment in the flowing blood. Jamdak's entire weight was behind that swing and he becomes overbalanced; his boot slipping on the slick blood he falls with a dull thud.

Grinning like a maniac, he gathers himself up just as Otto opens the door. He flourishes his greataxe menacingly and addresses their mark. "I'll say it once more. Drop the weapon and surrender and you'll live, manling. Now."

Uhm, I forgot to roll Intimidation. DrK, let me know if you require a roll or feel free make the roll yourself.

Otto and Jamdak bounce off the door the first time, hearing the faint grunt from the far side as their prey resists. Both putting their shoulders in again works well, too well as the door flies open hurling the man across the floor of what appears to be an office with a heavy oaken desk strewn in papers and a large set of ornate shelves with an expensive collection of books on it.

The man sprawled across the floor looks up at the blood soaked and gore splattered home invaders, fear whitening his eyes. "In Shallya's name. mercy. Please, mercy I beg you. I have money, I am rich I can pay you off as long as you spare me....

I'm going to assume I still have the box instead of handing it off.

"The money does sound good," Jarla muses, though she has no intention of diverting from her objective. She hesitates for a brief moment before pulling the box out of her bag. "Here's your gift, kind sir."

The man looks a mixture of rageful and terrified as he crouches on the floor, still in a state of disarray. He looks at the box. Eyes filled with suspicion before he speaks. "Who do work for? What is in there?". Fear creeping in he tries to rise."You may open it." he graciously allows to Jarla.

Stepping aside for Alexis, the dwarf then moves and blocks the door, cutting off that escape route. He glances over to his bloody handiwork and a dark grin crosses his face. Now is the time for the more sociable humans to do the talking. He strains his ears against the night and keeps watch, every now and again menacingly locking eyes with the defeated merchant.

Intimidation: [roll0] vs. 42? (Strength 42 + Modifiers?)

"You're in no position to be making requests," Jarla growls as she slams the box in front of the merchant. She is unaware how she is coming off; either legitimately terrifying or as minuscule as a child's tantrum. "My main concern is how you are wasting my time. Make this easy for the both of us."
